  1. Phew, we can cross off the number 1 item on the offseason wish list!
  2. The only way we'll eat crow is if the Raiders change their mind, are able to back out of the Geno Smith deal and switch to Darnold and give him a massive deal. Otherwise I have no idea how anyone can claim the Seahawks or Raiders pulled one over on the Vikings.
  3. But Carl Pavano threw about 70 MPH. The effort in the above photo looks more like 'I'm going to impress the cheerleaders' at the high school reunion and less, 'Can we just tap the kegs already' at the beer league softball tourney.
  4. It was a miracle Jones played 17 games last year. I also wasn't interested in locking up a veteran RB early, mostly because I'd like to get IOL/DL free agents signed before they worry about who the veteran RB on the roster will be. However, even if they draft a rookie RB high, this team almost certainly was going to add a veteran to share the load. While I'm less high on Jones than many Vikings fans, the guys AFTER Jones do look pretty dreadful. I don't know that I'd rally want any of them on the team. We'll see how free agency plays out, but I guess there's a good chance that come July I'll be happy to have budgeted 10M for Jones instead of say 6M for Jamaal Williams or any million for Gus Edwards.
  5. I wanted to make a guess before I read all the comments, and that guess was Scott Baker. However, I agree with the board though, that leg drive looks like a more powerful reliever push off. I don't think Baker (and most starters) get that squatty.
  6. Tom Brady clearly disagrees. How exactly were the Vikings supposed to tag and trade Darnold to the Raiders, when the Raiders obviously wanted someone else anyway?
  7. Boston? No, you're thinking of John Quincy Adams. Austin Adams was his father, the 2nd president. People always get those two mixed up though.
  8. Oof, not good. I forget, which ankle does he throw with?
  9. Yeah, seems high, but both Bynum and Metellus were unheralded players who came out of nowhere. This is a spot I'm going to be good deferring to Flores even if I'm scratching my head in February.
  10. I remember it well. And I wasn't criticizing Gardenhire. Can't say that I wasn't criticizing the Margot infatuation though.
  11. Interesting. Ron Gardenhire has a HOF DH and says, "I think I'll stick with Kubel, a guy I helped develop". Rocco Baldelli has Manny Margot and says, "I have to find a way to get him in my lineup!!!"
  12. I don't believe in the bounce. Retailers, particularly grocery stores are going to use the tariffs as an excuse to jack up prices again. Even on things that aren't effected. It's a lie they've been getting away with since COVID because half the country has already pledged to believe everything billionaires tell us, no matter how ridiculous. Those folk will find other things to blame it on other than corporate greed and dishonesty, but they'll still complain and inflation will be worse.
  13. Your pitchfork is clearly already aimed at him. I guess I don't understand why anyone would think he's not doing the bare minimum right now when it is the most active part of the season for a GM. If Darnold could have been tagged and traded with certainty, he would have been. Any GM would have done it, not just the ours. Obviously and unequivocally, the answer to 'Can the Vikings tag and still trade Darnold' is either 'No' or 'Not right now.' And both answers would require the Vikings to let him walk.
  14. Yeah, that's the price you're going to pay when you're desperate mid-season. Lucky if there are any LTs available at all.
  15. Right, the time to make these trades wasn't last year or this offseason, because there are no trades to be made this offseason. It was the prior half decade that they left vets to age and deteriorate on their rosters because they were so terrified of being 7-9 instead of 9-7.
  16. What did you want them to do? Trade Darnold before the trade deadline?
  17. Sure, but so far he's two for two when it comes to letting them walk and using the savings to replace them PLUS other positions.
  18. My initial reaction was that the Vikings could have made this deal! My second reaction was, I guess don't know a lick about this guy and for all I know there are a dozen free agents who'd be a better fit for this system. Stupid OL, it's the worst position group for us armchair fans to offer our sage wisdom about.
  19. I haven't had a sprained ankle in like 25 years, ever since I stopped playing baseball, basketball, football and track or basically any physical activity. Pretty sure I should be marketing this secret strategy.
  20. Right, that's the angle. He'd have no reason to sign it until he got a deal he wanted, here or somewhere else. His 40M salary would have crippled the Vikings chance to chase the top players in free agency.
  21. I don't think he gets to decide where he gets traded to, unless I'm missing an angle. Because that along with blatant tampering is the only way I can see a logical tag scenario. Like if the Giants want him, but Darnold's agent has already made it clear he's going to the Raiders. Then the Giants might tell the Vikings to tag him so they can trade for him. Which obviously will end up being a bad look for both the Giants and the Vikings. But still, I can't see any team wanting Darnold that badly. Even if the coach/GM like him, after his last two games there is going to be serious fan backlash for whomever gives him big money. Everybody was watching those games. If he was paid the same as Rodgers/Cousins/Wilson, the fans would be on board, but if it's 2x their salary at 3x the length, it will not be a popular move.
  22. Unless he miraculously stays healthy and starts 22+ games this year, this is Paddack's last season in a MLB rotation; wherever his road takes him next year, it will be in the bullpen. The Twins shouldn't be beholden to starting him still simply because his contract is heftier than this team is willing to pay relievers. I agree that the front office is wise enough to understand the sunk cost fallacy, but I disagree that they have the fortitude to avoid it. Veteran players on decent contracts are like a box of Oreos to them. One start leads to two starts leads to a dozen. They'll stop when they get a stomach ache, not BEFORE they get a stomach ache.
  23. Small price to pay for that 1% of fentanyl that's smuggled from Canada..........
