  1. Aaaaaaaand it's over. NFL free agency is so crazy. There will be more signings, but all the best players are gone and there is zero urgency any longer. The breaking-news cycle of signings has all but dried up. Just another way that the NFL is completely opposite of MLB.
  2. The overlap is terrible, but also, why do some have the team names, while others have the city name? And why is the team in Denver the only one with both?
  3. Yeah, they can still do something big. Though there aren't a lot of big moves to be made still. Might be some good players later that other teams need to move. Still some good safeties out there, but the Vikings have been good at developing their own. I also wouldn't mind another LB who can play coverage. The defense really struggled with Pace was forced to do it all. I don't know their pass coverage grades, but Kyzer White and EJ Speed look like upgrades. Probably also have to think about LT in case Darrisaw is slow to get back up to speed. That's probably a spot you have to wait on though. Can't just pay a starting LT backup money. I'm not sure about Kupp, or any other big name WR though. I'm thinking you'll end up with a Jordan Addison problem if you do. I could see this as his last year in Minnesota, as I'm not sure you give him a big contract, but I'd still rather have him than an aging Kupp or Amari Cooper this year.
  4. Seems like basing that decision on 6 games may have been an overreaction. And not basing it on two seasons in a row of Vazquez having a sub .600 OPS likely an under-reaction. I get the hesitancy to play the no-name, untested options. But if Vazquez wasn't paid 10M per year, he'd be playing DFA musical chairs for the last two seasons. I just don't get the big loss.
  5. Has he proven that? Wouldn't that though apply to pretty much be every batter on the roster? More likely, it seems the manager just loves to give equal plate appearances to veteran players, regardless of their skill with the bat.
  6. I don't know. I guess I can take other's words for it, but I've never had a job that had a 'mentor' situation for me, and I've had a lot of jobs. Sure, I've had older coworkers, but that 'take me under your wing' stuff I've only see in movies.
  7. Or future equity? If the guy looks passable, or even better yet, if Darnold and Jones look good in their new homes, any 'rebound' QB under KOC is going to have interest next year. I mean, Flacco is basically the same age as KOC and McCown. Seems like the coaches should be mentor enough.
  8. Agreed, that obviously has the biggest potential payoff, even if it also has the lowest potential payoff. I mean, if we actually have to turn to the backup QB, we're probably no longer very excited about the season anyway.
  9. I could see reasons for them trying any of the last six. At this point, Lance is probably the only one who has a shot at doing the Darnold/Mayfield/Smith impression though. Very little interest, but if they want the mentor/mentee bit, Flacco stands out. That's not exactly what I'd be looking for, but it's a common trope in the sports circles for sure.
  10. Whoever it is, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a two year deal. So that if the guy DOES play and perform, they can trade him the following year.
  11. Wow. This is pretty much everything I was hoping for. Two IOL, two DL, two CBs? The Vikings are suddenly and clearly a BPA team in the draft now.
  12. Put me down for the lone 'Yay' then. I'm not even saying it's a good decision; heck, I'd venture to say it doesn't pay off in the slightest, but I'd love to put Baldelli in a position where he gets his comfort blankets taken away from him. His preference for players he likes over offensive ceiling has really gotten under my skin. But really, even if it doesn't pay off, we're talking about a Drew Butera level player here. Even if you like his glove, you're not losing THAT much. I miss the days when the backup catcher was more novelty than necessity.
  13. They've been good at developing their own safeties. CB they consistently have to sign as free agent. The nuance as to why that is escapes me, but if it works, keep doing it.
  14. Thank God! Kelly might not have been the top center available, but definitely a guy I was interested in. For me this was the biggest need as running up the middle in obvious run downs HAS to be part of your game, even if you don't always do it. And they all but stopped trying at the end of last year. I also thought Allen was a bit over-rated and likely still carrying some '1st round draft' hype. But this team has rarely whiffed in free agency on defensive players since Flores has come on board. If Flores wants him, I'm going to feel it's a good move until proven otherwise. Also, I wonder if the Vikings would have interest in Will Fries now at guard. I mean, most offensive line-mates don't go from one team to the same next team, but with the OL having a lot to do with relying on chemistry, it might be a nice benefit. Because I still want a guard either way.
  15. Right, I forgot about that. Hope that's not a trend.......
  16. And thankfully it's not tackles they need but the interior guys. So should be cheaper.
  17. Is that photoshopped? Not the necklace, that Sam Deduno was about to complete 7 innings in under 100 pitches. Edit: So close:
  18. I notice that the worst GM in the league has only signed a long snapper today. While I'll acknowledge I'd like to have seen the Vikings have deals in place for two IOL already, I'll forever be happy I don't have Jerry Jones running my favorite team.
  19. Seems like Dahlman was still the only one of the bigger names guys to go so far. Becton, Zeitler and Freis are still there at guard and Myers is still there at center.
  20. I'd guess someone saw 'Patrick' Mekari and misread it as 'Packers'. Also, Packers Mahomes is also not going to Green Bay.
  21. And from my perspective, the Vikings were 100X better at applying a band-aid to their DL issues last year than they were with their IOL issues.
  22. That is a huge payday for a good-not-elite DT. Wow. That's the fourth fairly big time free agent deal the Pats have given to defensive players already.
  23. The Jets are continuing with their decades long run of elite QB play by signing Justin Fields.
  24. Please address the IOL. Unlike the secondary, this is not a spot they've been creative at acquiring talent the last several years. If they aren't aggressive here, it's going to be hard to believe that they seriously want to fix it. Or even that they think it does need to be fixed.
  25. He wouldn't have been the CB I expected, nor do I think anyone here was clamoring for. But the same would have been said about Murphy, Griffin, Gilmore and Peterson. I'm fine letting Flores and KAM deal with the veteran free agents at this position unconventionally. Weird how they do it well in free agency, but are completely lost when it comes to the secondary in the draft.
