    Myers wants out because he wants an extension. He's really underrated but I can't imagine the Vikings would give him that extension.

    Sorry, but Popkins had nothing to do with the strikeout issues. I'm not sure where that narrative came from. In 2023 the Twins led the universe in strikeout percentage, but they improved all the way to the 10th best in 2024. And no wonder, Joey Gallo and Michael Taylor were gone and Edouard Julien was in AAA half the year. So obviously the strikeouts had little to do with the coaching and almost entirely to do with removing the biggest offenders from the roster. I approve the intent but loathe the results. But again, nothing to do with Popkins and if anyone thought so, it's because no one could watch the Twins on TV in 2024.

    Ryan, Ober and Wallner will be well over 30 when they hit free agency. Their best baseball will be behind them at that point so I see no reason to extend them.

    The guys who haven't made their MLB debut are still certainly excited that they've nearly achieved their lifelong dreams. I don't want those dreams dashed by being promoted to hanging with a bunch of players who are resentful and dejected and don't want to be there.

    Yeah, that's a real bad look. I mean, with the coaches track record of helping the hitters make adjustments, NOBODY should take their advice. But obviously you don't say it out loud. To the media no less.

    Glad to hear it. Now keep him in St. Paul the rest of the season. If the clubhouse is as rancid with discontent and dejection as implied, I don't want it contaminating him. I'm guessing we won't get the changes in 2026 this team desperately needs, but it's worth waiting so as not to risk it.

    Yeah, I was surprised as well, but then it did start to add up when reports later in the day said that Aiden O'Connell went down and the Raiders were desperate for a backup and the Lions said Hendon Hooker needed a change of scenery. Free agent backup QBs are now headlined by CJ Beathard.

    The well has been poisoned. You can't cleanse it by getting rid of all the players, so getting rid of leadership is the only option. I think this is clear as day to anyone who has followed this team, including the Pohlads. They can say they like Baldelli and Falvey and think they've done the absolute best they could possibly do under the circumstances. But it does not matter. They need to decontaminate. Obviously the biggest virus is the Pohlads, but not much can be done about that, however if they won't switch up leadership this off season (I know, they won't), that's just as big of a middle finger to the fans as trade deadline day.

    Or more aptly, if chasing division titles makes them more money. How many years would have the AL central champ have been eliminated from the playoffs three weeks earlier in a two division league? Probably quite a few. Small divisions mean teams are in contention for a playoff spot longer and that holds (some) fans attention longer into the season. And I agree, any league that doesn't do everything in their power to try to emulate the NFL is either stubborn or foolish. MLB does tend to be both of those though.

    Because the White Sox are also trying to get a new stadium. They had a payroll of 183M in 2023 and then August of that year they announced they were looking into a new location. Payroll has been dropping along with passive aggressive implications that they may relocate. The Twins already got what they wanted. No doubt they'll be amongst the lowest payrolls next year, but I don't think they will have carte blanche like the other teams that are actively looking for stadiums.

    Agree. The bullpen is the HARDEST area to fix in free agency. By nature, relievers are victims or beneficiaries of small sample sizes and they are flakey and often unreliable; if they weren't, they'd be starters. Most of the best bullpens in the league, including the Twins best bullpens historically, are made using trial and error with guys who have been in the system for at least a couple of seasons. It's hardly ever clear how and where these guys best fit into your usage plan until you've experimented with them for a bit.

    I thought that after the trade deadline, but not now after the ownership is (unfortunately) resolved. Surely by coincidence 😒MLB made the A's bump up their payroll after finally leaving Oakland. They'll certainly do the same to Tampa once that's resolved. The Twins ownership drama didn't drag out as long as those two situations, but the other owners are NOT going to be happy if the Twins, who are solidly in a mid market, not small market, start rolling with a sub 100M payroll while rolling in the other owners' revenue sharing handouts. And those other owners still have to approve the Twins two new hedge fund investors. There's probably little chance those investors will get approved ensuring the Pohlad's stay in the league, if they know the Pohlad's will continue to use the Twins to funnel their free MLB money into their failing real estate businesses. I'll bet 100M is going to be the magic number, and they'll need Lopez to hit that. And maybe they'll have to give Ryan and unnecessary extension to make it too.

    He does have exciting stuff; I really hope the Twins know what they are doing with him though. Lots of players with this injury profile can't make it as a starter, so the Twins need to be pretty confident he's capable because it would be a shame for Prielipp if further starter-related injuries derails what could otherwise have been an top end relief career.

    I doubt Phillips had any say in it, but Aaron Glenn is certainly familiar. OK, so the Vikings are paying 7.5M this year and the Jets are on the hook for the rest of the contract. Also, it looks like his cap hit was 4.2M if they cut him after the season. So the Vikings are paying 3.3M extra now when they have the money to improve the cap situation next season. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/25195/harrison-phillips Still, it's surprising considering this team has focused on beefing up the defense the past two off seasons, so I wonder if the main motivation is much simpler than that; he's 300 pounds and almost a 30-year-old man, maybe during camp it looked like time finally caught up to him.

    There is one qualified pitcher with a higher rate than that this year but Devin Williams pairs that with an excellent K%.. 11.9% is a terrible BB rate, Not going to work. And I don’t know why you spend the effort trying to fix a guy who gives up too many free passes and can’t strike anyone out, when there are guys just as cheap and much younger, that you only have to fix one of those areas.

    Right, well which category do you think a pitcher with a 17% walk rate falls into?

    Yeah, I think Pete Carroll's floor is an average but competent team. But he won't be there long so they can revert back to the dysfunctional Raiders in a few years. I'd also throw the Saints, Cowboys, Cardinals, Dolphins and Titans into the poorly run teams. I'd also put the Steelers in a not-poorly-run-but-too-stubborn-to-truly-compete category. My money is on Mike Vrabel and the Patriots also falling into that category. Also, controversial take here, but despite the high flying offense, Dan Campbell and the Lions could find this tier sooner rather than later too. I might take the Jags off the list since they finally removed their clown of a GM, but that's still a ton of teams that you can count on never amounting to much as long as current decision makers are place.

    Cheap relievers grow on trees though. And there's plenty who aren't going to walk the bases loaded.

    His calling card was supposed to be his high contact rate and elite on base skills. Meanwhile he has a !!!.288!!! OBP. This is 100% a legit concern and article worthy.

    Nice article and it's a great story. Easy to cheer for a guy who's battled back from the Asian leagues. However I'm skeptical he'll be on the 40-man come spring training. The Twins have done well with adding velocity and pitch mixes, but like every club in the history of the game, trying to fix a pitchers command and control is usually a futile effort.

    While it likely wasn't a tough competition, Daniel Jones won the Colts starting QB job over Anthony Richardson. Have to think Jones will get a long leash too because the guys who picked Richardson are still there and have now benched him three times. Their jobs almost certainly will depend on Daniel Jones playing the best football of his career. And fair or not, with the current league-wide narrative, if Jones does play well, I would about guarantee everyone is going to give KOC the credit, not the Colts. With only a few months together everyone should probably re-consider that narrative, but it definitely would be advantageous to the Vikings as it should help them attract the top back up QBs going forward.

    As excited as I am for McCarthy, I think in year one his target distribution is going to be too small to maximize the productivity of a ton of weapons. And then you'll have Hill and Addison publicly whining about not getting targeted enough. If McCarthy looks good this year though, I'd definitely go that route in year 2. Or even use another top pick on another stud WR.

    These high contact guys hardly ever flame out league-wide; tons don't have a high ceiling, but most have a reasonable floor. Teaching a guy when NOT to swing has to be so much easier than teaching a guy how to make contact. I really think a lot of this is a Twins-specific instructional and educational issue at the MLB level.

    I've never heard of that. It would fit with how deep they are into the red in 2026 though.
