  1. Ryan picked his successor, aren't those top three complaints all Ryan's responsibilities? And aren't the bottom three Molitor's responsibilities? If one was going to take umbrage with these issues, the only culpability the owners have are not firing the GM or President of the team. I for one am more than thrilled that the Pohlad's don't meddle in player development, and on-field strategy. That would be awful, just awful.
  2. College teams playing against the pros in Spring Training have a better record than this team does currently. Something more is at play than a lack of talent or managerial mistakes. It's something intangible, whether it's "leadership", "attitude", "complacency", "inexperience", "effort" or "extra-terrestrial contagious brain washing". It really doesn't matter who's "fault" it is, we already saw a possible remedy when this team fired Gardenhire despite little tangible evidence pointing to him being a poor manager. This is basically the same team from last year and still has most of the same core guys from Gardy's last year. It happens all the time, getting a new manager changes something, even if it can't be measured. Winning and being fair to your employees are unfortunately often mutually exclusive, ask just about everyone who has gotten downsized from a Fortune 500 company despite the company still producing record profits. As businessmen, the Pohlads certainly are well aware of this. The only difference is, we as fans measure the profits by Wins.
  3. Has anyone seen Buxton in person? I'm wondering if they incorporated the leg kick Brunansky mentioned when he was sent down.
  4. You mean good erotic literature, right?
  5. I don't bite on Dick wishes. I I don't want to know what they are.
  6. They should probably just re-add Milone then, he's a better hitter than most of the bench anyway.
  7. Well bad is a relative term, and in this case, his badness still makes him the best hitter on the team.

  9. If Burnett ends up being a trade-deadline move I'm just fine with this one. I don't know that he has anything left but his name value will help if he does out-perform our expectations. You still won't get much for him though, and there's also risk that he'll out-perform expectations and this front office would extend him instead, as we've seen that more than once.
  10. BA says that neither guy were even top a top 30 prospects in the Braves system. Both were 16 round draft picks, so it's not like they have a big pedigree either. It looks like we're talking along the lines of Cody Stashak and Mat Batts to me.
  11. Good lord, I'm starting to block-out games now? Tell me it's still Sunday or I might be late for work.
  12. I don't know that he thinks it's fun. But just like most of us, if we score big on a prediction, fantasy player, or get in on the ground floor of a hit TV show, we tend to be proud of our take and perhaps ride it longer than we otherwise would. I bet this happens a lot with amateurs on the stock market also.
  13. Not all teams do that, and I wouldn't think it's the best philosophy for a team that's 11-31. The Rangers just promoted a guy who's had a total of 17 IP in the past half decade and before he went into the slammer he was a shortstop. And the Rangers are a contender.
  14. What's happening today isn't going to be what's happening tomorrow. I want someone who not only understands that baseball is at the same time evolving AND cyclical, but someone who thrives on change and isn't overly committed to what worked for them in the past. This is going to sound cold-hearted and un-Twin like, but I want a GM who sees the players as a commodity: -Sign free agents to contracts that can be unloaded if the team is struggling. -Speculate on buy low candidates. -Don't make the roster redundant, you don't need x many number 3 pitchers or x number of corner/DH types. -Avoid sentimental signings and picks. If a Joe Mauer is the best player available to pick, go ahead and grab him I guess, but local guys and former players should not be getting deals because they make for good PR. Sentimentality is a killer, it causes bad contracts and it makes it hard to trade guys when they clearly should be traded. If all things are equal, stay away from the local guy and former players. I would like to see the Twins target John Mozeliak or Neil Huntington for the President job and let them woo front office and managerial staff.
  15. That sounds familiar, I just can't place where I've experienced bullpen anxiety like that before.......
  16. No it's the weapon Poseidon uses to kill dragons and leprechauns. Trust me, I'm an expert in Greek mythology.
  17. I kind of have a feeling that those currently in charge probably shouldn't be concerned about service time as it's going to be the problem of someone else in about four months.
  18. Yeah, I bet no righty has a very good BABIP if they try to hit every pitch down and away over the left field fence. And the book is out and all he sees is low and away. And a little bit up and a way.
  19. That would be fine if Souhan made it clear this was an Op-Ed piece but he did everything he could to make this sound like he's getting hot intel straight from players or other Target Field personnel. If he was getting information and not just reading between the lines, he should be including quotes, even if they were "unnamed". I would take it much more seriously if, "Half of the players are pretty upset with Perkins and Hughes as we don't feel that they are keeping themselves in shape and none of use believe that they're actually too hurt to pitch." I was told by a player who wished to remain anonymous.
  20. And his comments had their desired effect, he was viewed as a lost cause after that. Just like whomever leaked this stuff to Souhan got their desired effect. Both were wrong in my eyes. I would have no problem with Souhan/Twins Mole doing this if there was something more substantive than a dirty look and innuendo.
  21. He wasn't so classy back in 2009 when he threw a stink about his much deserved demotion. I agree with gunnar though, the Twins ship is so tight, that I can't imagine that someone didn't intentionally leak this stuff. It is a hack job accusing these players of not playing hurt which probably means these guys are throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks hoping against hope that they can stave off mass firings. And really, maybe people are throwing the players under the bus because the players ARE negligent, we don't know, but it still won't matter, you can't fire all the players, especially when they make 20x more than the guys responsible for scouting and signing them. I think the bigger take away is Souhan's implication that there is a fracture among the players and perhaps the vets aren't as revered as they are supposed to be.
  22. He didn't get extended, he just got a raise.
