  1. It would seem to me that basketball would be the one sport where athletic ability would be far and away more important than experience. It makes no sense to me but maybe there's something about having crafty veterans. It doesn't seem to matter in college though, a team of more athletic freshman beat more experienced senior led teams all the time.
  2. Well now you're going to have to explain it to me, I don't see the correlation.
  3. As a fan of a team that was continually contending for a decade and still followed that philosophy religiously, I'll just say I hope it works out better for you than it did for us.
  4. I know a couple of Seattle fans, bandwagoners for sure. But obnoxious fandom only makes up a part of my dislike for teams. It might make up more if I was ever able to leave the house or did other social media other than TD and I had to interact with such folks more often. Also, I like Seattle's odds of beating GB at home better than ATL should it come to that. Considering that if the Vikings aren't playing, the entirety of my football interest lies in ensuring GB loses, I'm almost always going to cheer for the team with better odds against them.
  5. I can't imagine the Red Sox and Nationals fans don't feel a sting considering what they gave up even after getting Sale and Eaton. And I'm not comparing Dozier to those guys, just that trades typically are bittersweet for both teams unless they are lopsided.
  6. There's probably enough of a difference between offering "nothing else" and offering "players of low significance" to keep talks alive.
  7. A Vikings fan in Seahawk territory has to be tough. I'm still more upset about the missed field goal in 1999 than I am the one last year though so I have ATL a spot or two ahead of Seattle on my hate list. Though both are distantly trailing GB and Dallas. And to be clear, that list has about 31 teams on it. I'm pretty sure I'm already cheering for the AFC this year, even if that team happens to be the Patriots.
  8. Except I was asking if I was interpreting that phrase correctly, which meant I was leaving open the possibility that I wasn't.
  9. That's all I was suggesting.
  10. I don't know, De Leon plus spare parts doesn't sound all that painful to me from a Dodgers perspective. I think I'd be doing cartwheels if I cheered for them.
  11. Worse than Pats-Packers?!?!?
  12. Throw in the a Patriot-Packer match up for me also. I can't believe I have to cheer for Atlanta and Seattle; I dislike both so terribly.
  13. But from the sound of most posters and pundits Verdugo, Stewart and Buehler are also untouchable in this deal. Kershaw, Meada, Hill, Urias, Kazmir, Stewart, Stripling, Wood and McCarthy are likely all ahead of De Leon in 2017 and most would likely be ahead of him in 2018 by the time he's 26 and the team is then ready to have a whole new crop of early-20's arms knocking at the door. His path to the majors is dubious at best and even were he to become a full-time starter, it likely would be short lived due to the depth behind him. I can't imagine many Dodgers fans would give up De Leon plus some relatively minor parts and not feel good coming out of a trade for Dozier.
  14. I agree that his value likely will not be higher at the deadline, however it appears at this point that his value is not going to dictate the return; there simply isn't enough demand. If the Dodgers deal is truly a slap in the face I'd keep him and see if demand bumps up his return this summer, it very well may even if he isn't playing nearly as well as last year. At this point I'm not feeling inclined to do the Dodgers any favors.
  15. The human inability to admit they made a mistake and in fact aren't infallible is incredible. Sure, we all have that instinct to some degree, but for some of our species it's pretty much their defining attribute. When did we start treating stubbornness as a positive quality? I mean we weren't praising mules when we said 'stubborn as a mule', were we? Or was I the only one interpreting that one wrong?
  16. Aren't trades supposed to be a bit painful for each team, probably more so for the buying team? I haven't seen any proposals from reporters or Dodgers fans that seem particularly painful. I'm sure they like De Leon, but he's like 8th, 9th or 10th in the current Dodgers SP depth chart with younger guys who throw harder nipping at his heels a level or two behind him, he's pretty much the definition of expendable. If the Dodgers aren't willing to make available a couple of pieces that would make them wince for a premier talent, talks should be called off.
  17. Yeah, the NFL is different than the other sports. I find it hard not to dislike just about every team.
  18. I'm just hopeful that if a deal does not occur, there is enough disappointment from Dodger media and fans that the team leaks what it was offering. If the leaked offer was less than honest I'd hope the Twins then leak their version of what was offered.
  19. I couldn't handle that frenetic atmosphere and I would find it annoying and likely condescending, but I wouldn't be shocked if the kids ate it up. I'd also have a hard time being around the smug arrogance oozing from Urban Meyer, Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh.
  20. Darin, that's a pretty good angle you may have found. Frankly I'm not upset that the Dodgers haven't been forced to officially sign Jansen, but I am quite impressed with the Twins front office if they are truly gaming them. Looking at the Dodgers 40-man there doesn't appear to be as many palatable cuts as there are for a certain other team.
  21. With JDL I'm more concerned with the velocity being 91-92. If it was only down due to the season long grind then I don't have as much concern. Losing velocity at the age of 24 is pretty common though, guys tend to peak in their early to mid 20's. I do like the guy a lot but I would be a bit worried that he's a guy with an early and quick peak. I can't imagine the Twins are overly interested in Sheffield though. Just about everyone who has bullpen suspicions in A ball finds themselves stuck there long before they reach the majors; it's not typically a concern that goes away, particularly when the concern is largely due to mechanics.
  22. I agree, but I don't think the front office does. Most front offices put a much higher value on guys in AAA or with MLB experience than the pundits or fans do. It's why I wouldn't be surprised if the men on both side of this trade actually value Stewart more than Alvarez even if nobody on the sidelines watching the show feels the same. But to be fair, there's never any pressure on pundits and fans to 'win now'.
  23. That would have been my hope but it appears he hasn't even been given a ST invite. I also vote Park but also Vargas. My prediction is they are going to both hit this spring and cause much debate here as there will appear to be room for only one of them on the 25-man.
