  1. I'd bet league interest in Patterson will be based on his return skills and I'd guess the Vikings will be the top suitor.
  2. I'm more than willing to include Kintzler to gain any kind of increased return. But after two consecutive posts denouncing it I should probably come clean and admit that I'm unreasonably in favor of banning the sinker from the Twins clubhouse.
  3. Both of those are because of his sinker usage. He gets plenty of swings and misses on his change and slider; if only he'd use them to put guys away. But I agree, no GM would give the Twins value for him based on what he could do if he pitched correctly. He'll have to pitch correctly and show results first to gain any value.
  4. I guess in terms of Feliz, I'd be interested in a multi year deal if the team was reasonably confident in the return of his velocity. It jumped back to what it was when he was looking like a stud for the Rangers.
  5. Glad you broke the ice. Feel free to add your two cents at any time, it's certainly worth as much as the two cents deposited by the rest of our posters. Except for our Canadian posters, due to the exchange rate only of course.
  6. Welcome to the site and good luck to your son! Great, confident username too!
  7. I don't usually check out the message boards on MLBTR but I was curious about this topic. Perhaps there is an inordinate amount of Braves fans who comment on that site, or Braves fans are more interested in a Dozier trade than we might think. Anyway, most of the comments were from that fanbase.
  8. And I feel bad, I should visit more often. It's just so hard. It seems like the football fans that aren't interested in baseball are so much more difficult to engage in a civilized discussion.
  9. I agree. Now if we're talking about a team like the Pirates, the inexpensive Gibson who has bounceback potential might be of extreme curiosity to them. Team's like the Dodgers tend to value a more certain commodity as price is of less consequence.
  10. Zeitler would be good, well I would assume. Amatures such as myself judging O linemen seems silly regardless of Profootball Focus or any other kind of analytical study, but if those in know say he's good, fine by me. The Vikings do chase Zimmer's old Bengals that's for sure. I have to think there will be a lineman or two who will be a cap casualty who may still be useful. I'm really surprised Sporano didn't get more out of this unit considering that he was hyped as a line guru. We've seen plenty of teams make do with make-shift lines, why couldn't the Vikings? Was it because Sporano couldn't get these guys on the right page? Or was it because Spielman put guys on the roster who no one could mold into useful pieces? I'm feeling like it's more likely the 2nd. Spielman's done some rally nice things, but the things he's missed on are really, really starting to pile up and become worrisome.
  11. In the NFL I have a much harder time rooting for any team that isn't my team. I find reasons to dislike nearly all of them. Still, of all the NFC East teams, the Eagles are probably the one I dislike the least. Watching Bradford in the last game makes me think a creative passing attack is possible with him. The team should have a load of FA money, they have to throw nearly all of it at the line don't they? They tried last year but I think they have to try again. That probably mean they have to try to bring Kalil back as much as I don't think he's a big benefit. I'd love to find a way to put Kalil at RT and find a new and improved LT.
  12. I'm in the camp of giving the kids the jobs, but if that isn't how this is going to work, I guess my second choice is to get some guys who might hit it big and you could flip. Obviously Holland has the upside to fetch a nice return if everything plays out right, I'd think Feliz could also be very attractive if he repeats last year and is only earning $6M/year. Ryan did well with his low-budget and minor-league deal bullpen guys, but they all had such low, low ceilings. Is Brandon Kintzler at his peak value even tradable?
  13. MLBTR's Charlie Wilmoth has a write up on Neftali Feliz, perhaps the next best available relief pitcher on the market. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/free-agent-profile-neftali-feliz.html The last line of the write up is: "MLBTR predicts Feliz’s status as one of the better setup men available this winter will help the BTI Sports client land a three-year, $18MM deal." I'm interested in Feliz, most of us probably are. I'm having a hard time deciding though if his last line makes me skeptical of the writer's analysi or if I should be more interested in Feliz than I am. Sure many teams would look at Feliz as one of the better setup men, but plenty have to see Feliz as a suitable choice for closer don't they? I mean hands down he'd be the Twins closer. I'd have to think if he and his agent see him as a closer, not a setup man, three years at $18M is light considering what the top tier guys went for. Perhaps not though; maybe he needs another year similar to last year for teams to trust him again? Anyway I'd take him at that price.
  14. I wanted to get to this earlier but typically I'm mobile while at home and only use a desktop at work. So back at work, not working! Where are you from (be as specific as you are comfortable): I am from Fargo and I have spent most of my life here. However I'm not very ND familiar, as most of my relations live in Minnesota. My parents are now in the Western lakes area and my sister and in-laws are in the metro suburbs. What is your age (or age range, if you prefer): I'm in my late 30's though my wife for some reason always just says "almost 40". She's been saying that for awhile now though so I'm skeptical. Seems like I have a couple years left but I'm not great with math. How long have you been a Twins fan? I've been a Twins fan since I started following sports, which was fortunately around 1987. Baseball was always my first sport, my grandfather played some minor league ball and my dad was a great Legion player. My Coke-bottle glasses were a bit of a hindrance for me. I like to say I couldn't pick up the ball fast enough to hit it, but I was probably terrible regardless of eye-site. What have a couple of your best Twins memories been? Both World Series hands down. I got to go to a game in 1991 but I was never so excited to watch a sporting event as I was watching those championships as a kid. Now I'm desperately hopeful that you get the same feeling as an adult. Fingers crossed. I loved the Renaissance team's of early this century and saw quite a few excellent games at the Metrodome, but even the gulf between the competitive seasons were fun to go to. There was something about going to games in the mostly empty stadium, it was like they were playing the games just for you. Also getting batting practice balls were really easy to get back then. Once as a teenager I monkeyed down to the floor behind the wall where the bleachers were pushed back and loaded up my pockets with about ten balls. When I climbed back up the usher chewed me out and took the balls but he didn't kick me out and he didn't get the four in my back pockets! My first game I ever attended was Rod Carew day in 1987, they retired his number and drove him around in a convertible. It was pretty cool. Who have some of your favorite players been? My favorite player was Kirby, but it's been hard to have the same idolization of players since. My first favorite player was Tim Laudner though. At Rod Carew day we were sitting in the second row behind the Twins bullpen (ha, the Metrodome had bullpens?). Laudner wasn't starting that day but wandered down to the pen early to start warming up pitchers because Mike Smithson was starting and Mike Smithson liked to give up HRs early and often. I had a handful of baseball cards with me and one was of Launder. My dad had been prodding me for a couple of innings to ask for his autograph. Laudner was done warming up Jeff Reardon when the top of the 9th started and I finally called down to him asking for his autograph. He said back, "Sorry kid. Can't now I have to go catch". Randy Bush had double switched for Sal Butera the inning before. Not even for a second was I disappointed that I didn't get the autograph, I couldn't believe that he'd actually talked to me! I then looked at the back of the card and it turned out we had the same birthday. Well except for the year. How long have you been reading Twins Daily (or were you following some writers before Twins Daily)? I've been a member since March of 2012 or so my profile says. I wish I had known BYTO, but this is really the only social media I do so I'm never up to date on cool things. I think I heard John mention they were going to launch this site on KFAN. I previously had been posting on some national site with a Twins section called Pro Sports Daily. There were a few regular posters there, some have found there way over here I think. What brings you back to Twins Daily? How often do you stop by the site? I am contractually obligated to moderate Twins Daily daily. Still waiting for my first paycheck. One additional thing? I think I mentioned it once before, but for anyone wondering why nicksaviking is moderating a Twins site; back when I first started dating my wife I used to have trouble remembering my emails, passwords and usernames for everything. This was likely because I would create them at 2 AM and they were irreverent to the point of being un-remember-able unless I recalled the joke that was going through my less than fully functional brain at the time. My not-yet-wife created the nicksaviking email and told me to stick with it, so I did.
  15. I think I like Ryan Raburn better. In my opinion the Twins need a righty platoon partner for Rosario/Kepler. Raburn seems more likely to accept a platoon role and he destroys lefties. I think Davis will be looking for a full time gig seeing as his star is shining due to a single post season HR, however I don't think he can hit enough.
  16. When I was in college my buddies and I took a trip to Canada, when we got there I ordered some pizzas. While I was on the phone they quickly told me to add Canadian bacon and I did. They then quickly and in a fake panic said "No,no,no they just call it bacon here!" So I too in a panic said "Canadian bacon, uh I mean bacon! Er um do you have ham?" My friends were jackasses.
  17. If course the difference between Wall Street and the Dodgers is that a successful morning involves waking up to a championship parade, which is often not compatible with maximizing his assets.
  18. Are you sure you're thinking of bacon and not Canadian bacon? Because one is delicious and the other is a floppy, slimy, poorly cut and under-cooked piece of luncheon meat.
  19. To be clear, Twins Daily and it's owners don't hold onto any kind of speculation. It's just a fan site where our members can post rumors they have heard, read or assumed along with all our hopes and dreams for brighter days and championship trophies.
  20. Then you clearly don't remember Tapani's masterful two appearances in the 1995 NLDS. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/tapanke01.shtml
  21. They haven't been all that interested in compromising in about 20 years. Yasir Arafat is dead, he was a bad dude, but other countries aren't basing current US policies based on LBJ's Vietnam inclinations and God forbid in twenty years they judge us on what is about to happen in our country. Netanyahu is also not a good dude and he's not looking to compromise. And again, that's not saying Abbas or Palestinian policies are worth a damn either.
  22. But isn't this like judging the US based on the manifestos and claims by the KKK? I can't believe that this is official Palestinian policy. I hate Russia, I don't hate Russians. I like Canada, I don't like Shania Twain. Again, I don't like Palestine or Israel but why are we judging one of them based on their radicals? Surely there are radical groups of Israelis who want to kill Palestinians too.
  23. Ha, yeah that book of Revelations is hoot! If memory serves that is, it's been awhile since I read it. I'm pretty excited to see if the re-enactment is half as good as the book, they never are though.
  24. I'm not sure how much value he has by himself though. If a third team is getting an Ervin Santana or Eddie Rosario there might be more prospects to go around.
  25. I'd still like to see a third team get involved. I'd understand why the Twins wouldn't want Puig, but if another club does like him, he would be a good chip to help the Dodgers recoup some prospects alongside of Dozier which might make them more willing to move some of their own.
