  1. These guys? RP1- Ryan Vogelsong Justin Haley •RP2- Michael Tonkin Craig Breslow •RP3- Matt Belisle •RP4- Buddy Boshers Tyler Duffey •RP5- Taylor Rogers •RP6- Ryan Pressly •RP7- Brandon Kintzler I'll keep Pressly and Rogers, no one else would stop me from putting the vets in the pen and rolling with Berrios and Mejia in the rotation. Wow, this team just looks so bad. Not that I'm disagreeing with your predictions. If they're going to lose, at least let me watch the young guys. April is going to be almost unwatchable waiting for the young guys to get another shot.
  2. You can if you stick the oldies in the pen and summon them back to the rotation when needed like the Dodgers and Cubs do.
  3. I agree, I still think the Vikings sign one though. For no other reason than the fact that it just seems like a Vikings move, I'll predict Stevie Johnson. I kind of like Kamar Aiken but he's a possession/slot guy which is probably the same role that Diggs, Thelan and Wright should all be playing. If I were to get a guy, I'd take a shot at Brian Quick.
  4. I think Granite could be pretty useful, but without any pop he's going to have to get on base. Last year he took a step back, but in 2015 he had a 10% BB rate. If he can get back to that there's room for him.
  5. 12 more years? That sounds like another Mauer-esque contract. Let's do it anyway!
  6. So if I'm reading that right, Fangraphs actually thinks Romero is a bit TOO comfy to sleep on.
  7. My random Vikings thoughts of the day: I wonder how much Patterson got. WR or not, he was really good in the return game. The last CB the Vikings got from Buffalo worked out quite well, so I hope they snag this new guy. I hope the team doesn't blow a pick on a punter again, there will be usable free agents available later. Losing Patterson and having so many other needs in the draft, I'm betting that the team will end up signing some vet receiver on the cheap. He'll probably be on his last legs but the local media will write stories about the leadership he brings to the young receiving corp. My confidence in Spielman is at an all time low. I'm really struggling to connect the dots on this off season's game plan, it kind of looks like they're just winging it from here. Though admittedly my view is from the sideline.
  8. Well correct me if I'm wrong, but I think kickbacks from Big Pharma can include a lifetime supply of Ambien to help fix those sleepless nights. Along with truckloads of "campaign contributions" of course.
  9. Sounds like they are interested in Ladarius Webb. Not sure if he is strictly a safety now or if he can also play nickel. Either spot is OK for an upgrade in my book. As long as he is an upgrade.
  10. Had Ryan and his cronies been running congress at the turn of the 1900's we'd be under the fourth or fifth generation of the Rockefeller or Carnegie ruling empires by now. Carnegie gave us all free libraries though, so at least HE would have let all his subjects get educated.
  11. I liked Munnerlyn, it's a shame. Vikings brought in ex Pakcers Lacy and Datone Jones in for looks. Frankly I'm tired of them doing this, let's not give that team more ammunition by letting them claim we take their hand-me-downs.
  12. No I just figured you had looked at some numbers on Profootball Focus or something. If he was bad it wouldn't surprise me, I don't know how good he is, in fact I barely remember him at all. But he can't be all that good if the Panthers gave a terrible deal to Matt Kalil instead. I'd gladly accept a Phil Loadholdt caliber player for RT right about now. Can he do that?
  13. I guess he was decent as a RT prior to moving to LT last year. Hopefully he can still perform. Or kick inside to guard. I'd like it if we knew how the free agent discussions go. How much does Spielman get Zimmer, Sherman and Sporano involved?
  14. That's why you stick the back-of-the-rotation vets in the pen where they can be summoned quickly. Having a couple of vets like Hughes and Santiago in the pen gives the team lots of flexibility without having to go to AAA every week and worrying about wasting options and whom to DFA.
  15. I cut Tonkin/Boshers/O'Rourke etc. I like what the Dodgers and Cubs do, they have no problem sending their journeymen vets to the pen and calling them back to the rotation upon need. Are Hughes and Santiago really much different than Bud Norris, Joe Blanton, Travis Wood, Trevor Cahill, Clayton Richard or Edwin Jackson?
  16. I would have no consternation about the situation any which way it turns out if all things were equal. The issue comes when the guys at the bottom of the pole then have to "earn" a spot even when the incumbent vets are bad. Or worst yet, when the incumbent vet is doing just enough to keep his job but not enough to help the team win. Then you get a Pelfrey-like stalemate.
  17. Thank God we don't have that worry.
  18. It was fairly ambiguous, but I can confidently say that this aspect of Old Man Logan was neither implied nor plausible. There was another explanation(s) which would require spoilers to go into more specifics.
  19. And now that the strikezone is being raised this year there might be a greater emphasis to pitch up in the zone regardless of upper-cut swings.
  20. Sounds like every game might look like they're playing through a rainstorm. The seats will be empty and everyone will be milling around the concourse.
  21. You just have to put in a year there then you are eligible to get hired by the D-backs.
  22. It only looks rare because they are two dis-similar skills stuck together and 20 SB shouldn't be an issue. Had Eduardo Nunez stayed with the Twins all year he likely would have done it. Like I said, I mostly didn't like the phrasing which should be taken with a grain of salt considering it was an off-the-cuff chat. I agree it's not likely, but I don't agree that it's particularly not likely. It's more that I'm being unreasonably sensitive to semantics. But 20 HR from a full-time RH hitter at Target Field just isn't difficult. Looking at the numbers since Target Field opened Michael Cuddyer in 2010, Danny Valencia in 2011 and Trevor Plouffe in 2014 are the only RH hitters with 550 ABs that DIDN'T hit 20 HR. And again, that wouldn't automatically make him a good hitter, or make 2017 a success, it's just the nature of the park he plays in and the side of the plate he hits from. If he stays healthy and in the lineup.
  23. Yeah, one of these days fangraphs is just going to up and hire Parker.
  24. If he's making contact, I think Buxton might have decent HR numbers from the get go, only because Target Field is very, very kind to right handers. Lots of linedrives hang up just long enough to find the flower beds. And I still wouldn't really consider him a power hitter. Not yet at least.
