  1. I also could not confidently say that any Packer fans are my friends.
  2. Toronto probably picked up the NHL rulebook by mistake. If he's breathing he can skate bat.
  3. Yeah, Cousins is old news in terms of NFL talkers and Garoppolo is an exciting unknown. Forget about realistic outcomes, everyone gets to project their own fantasies and expetations on the new guy! I didn't see pregame but let me guess, being a bench warmer for years under an all time great QB, people were comparing him to Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers?
  4. As soon as Cook came out of that pile I had a bad feeling he was going to get stripped. If you're a RB who has just escaped a near inescapable spot and then see only green in front of you, I'll bet you let your guard down a tad. Seems to me that happened to AP a dozen or so times. As for the Packers? I just hate them so much. For a team that has a priortiy list for the last 30 years that looks like this: 1. Have an all time elite QB fall into our laps 2. ??? 3. ??? 4. ??? 5. ??? they have never earned the fortitude to get bailed out time and time again. I don't wish anyone to get hurt, but they deserve to get stung due to their perpetual and intentional lack of contingency and the overall mediocrity of the other 52 players on the team
  5. I like how they put Kirilloff's face in the CF spot. Even if he's not CF material that suggests that his prospect status shouldn't be held back by his position seeing as Tucker and Jimenez's aren't.
  6. I really don't care where these guys start, I think most of us just get frustrated when vets who aren't playing well get a longer leash at the expense of a prospect and we can only assume it is due to some combination of salary, experience, loyalty or fear of the unknown, none of which in my opinion should extend a struggling vet's stay in the lineup. If the youngsters need seasoning, season them. Don't keep them down because there's a below average vet currently holding his job.
  7. I agree, Odorizzi was basically just a placeholder for that example and my money is on the team moving him to the pen next year regardless of free agency. We can instead use whomever is 2019's free agent version of Lance Lynn.
  8. With the pretext that I'm interested in putting a winning club on the field next year, I'd have preferred to give Rooker, Thorpe and Wade some decent playing time this year so as if they take some adjusting they may do it in a losing season. Next year if they are contending they may be hesitant to rely on the young players. Let's say the team is contending, and those three are still behind a healthy Mauer, Odorizzi and Kepler and those three vets are still painfully under performing, I'm not sure the team has the stones to replace below average but not terrible vets with untested rookies.
  9. What about when they were Morneau, Mauer, Cuddyer, Kubel, Liriano, Perkins and Baker? Seems the fans were right then. I don't think the front office is moving prospects slowly, but I don't think it's unfair for the fans to want to see them either, especially when the team at the MLB level is awful.
  10. I....I just can't. Nope can't put a prediction down on record. It would feel like I'm tempting fate and begging for heartache.
  11. I'd bet a discussion about the possibility of a limited role in 2019 has been discussed and I think he retires instead. It would seem odd that there isn't going to be a farewell tour, but this is Mauer after all, he's never seemed too comfortable when a microphone is put in front of him. He'd probably prefer to go out quietly.
  12. I don't like players moving to new teams this late in the offseason. It seems to happen more so with RB/WR/QB but guys always seem to take a while to adjust. I'm predicting that Mack will look fairly ordinary this year causing Bears fans to over-react and curse the trade. Next year I'd be more confident in him bringing his A game.
  13. That's not how the business world works. I doubt Falvey or Lavine ever told Buxton anything about a specific assignment. That was almost certainly Molitor, Pickler or some minor league coordinator. The suits probably gladhand the players in the locker rooms but let the people they hire to manage those players do the intermediary work.
  14. All things being equal, I'd leave Buxton down and keep the extra year of control. But things aren't equal, that year of control may not be worth the chaos and disharmony that it's causing. I'm just disagreeing that Falvey or Levine should have been the one to give Buxton the news. That's the managers job, they tell guys when they're promoted, they tell guys when they're released, they tell guys when they need to pull their act together. I assume what's why in professional baseball they're called managers instead of coaches like they are in college and high school. The president of my company doesn't fire me for chatting on TD too much, that's what my immediate manager is for.
  15. Yeah but he was sent down on a rehab assignment and stayed there long past the recovery. What did he think was going on? If Levine screwed up, it was in not understanding the blowback of the non-promotion. Criticizing the GM because the AAA manager give Buxton the news sounds like it's just an excuse to pile on. This particular aspect sounds pretty SOP.
  16. I'm sure he's not happy, and justifiably so, but who was supposed to relay that information to him? That sounds like the kind of thing the AAA manager would normally handle. Surely every minor leaguer on the 40-man hopes for a September call up and even a few off the roster have their fingers crossed also.
  17. Why would you assume that? Brent Rooker was picked 30 picks later and started at the same level as Wright. The Braves playoff chase is enviable not only because they're playing baseball that is entertaining to watch but because there is more incentive for the club to call up prospects that can help the final push. Wright has been good, not great, if the Braves were angling for a 90 loss season I can't imagine they'd toss away their service time leverage after the fan base already turned off their TVs.
  18. They don't for the NFL but those guys only have to prep for one game a week.
  19. But starting pitchers don't tend to be good much past 32. Morneau started off really rough in the booth, but I agree, he's really turned it around lately; I like him too. I might agree with Tom though, I might put Hawk a hair ahead of him. Maybe because he's got the "I've been everywhere, man" feel to him. His anecdotes and experiences aren't almost exclusively Twins related.
  20. Quigley's ability to avoid touchbacks last year was really impressive; he saved the defense a ton of yards. They must have felt that whatever was going on with him this preseason couldn't be expected to get fixed.
  21. I don't mind the service time manipulation, this year is lost. I'm also impressed with the forthcoming nature that Lavine showed when discussing the situation; typically this would all be veiled and the statements would end with a wink wink. But I am concerned that the front office appears to have greatly miscalculated the temperature of the clubhouse. It doesn't sound good right now. I doubt this will have any impact on free agents coming here but I'm not sure that it's going to make signing current players to extensions any easier.
  22. Is Rameriz playing or managing?
  23. Has my dish been hacked? Directv switched from the Twins game to Dirty Dancing.
  24. If the decision on Buxton is coming in 24 hours, I'd think that means they're recalling him. Otherwise why do they have to make a decision in 24 hours? Couldn't they instead revisit the decision after the Red Wings season is over?
