  1. Vikings signed George Iloka. That's quite a pairing with Harrison Smith. I wonder where that leaves Sendejo, he'd be a pretty expensive backup. I know Sendejo recently got an extension so I don't know how much of his money is guaranteed but if little or none is guaranteed replacing him with Iloka could possibly free up some extra money. KFAN morning show also had a pretty thoughtful angle on this signing as well, with how reckless and out of control he always looks, Sendejo is probably the Viking most likely to kill the defense with penalties related to the new helmet rule.
  2. Sure, that group is an improvement on what we typically see around here, but that group can't hold a candle to what Houston, Cleveland and Boston are going to run out there every game.
  3. Geez, just looking at Addison Reed's Brooks Baseball profile and it looks like he's lost nearly 2 MPH on his FB and 2.5 MPH from his slider since the start of the season. If they want to rely on him next year I think the front office needs to tell Molitor that Reed's appearances are going to be capped at 1 maybe 2 a week from here on out. Looking at his past years he's never had in-season declines like this. This doesn't look good, give this guy lots of rest, don't blow out his arm just to chase a .500 record.
  4. Hmmm, can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I'm strongly leaning toward bad.
  5. Fantastic interview and article Buhr. I wonder if that BA would go up if he weren't so selective. Obviously trading walks for hits isn't going to impact the OBP but it might help with the strikeouts. Hard to say in the Midwest League though, there's probably significantly fewer strikes thrown on the first pitch at that level than there are at each level onward.
  6. I'm not really digging the look of Trevor Siemian so far. If the Jets trade or cut Bridgewater as rumored, I might prefer to fall back on that familiar face.
  7. Or if he's not, I hope they know when to pull the plug. They waited a bit too long with the last guy they drafted.
  8. I agree, but there's no reason to roster Wilson when there are going to be a dozen guys like him available. My question is, can we count on Casto being able to continue to catch after knee surgery? I don't think it was terribly significant but he's already past his physical prime as it is. I'd take Ramos or Grandal, but if we're talking about a starting catcher, I'd rather continue with Garver over the rest.
  9. Hmmmm, so only four days of a shortened pen you're saying? Seems like there may have been a missing component to my machinations. Well there's always 2019 I guess.
  10. Good list, I hope there's quite a bit of turnover due to trades and free agents. I'd think Drake and MaGill have an uphill battle to stay rostered. Along with your list, I'd also bet against Johnny Field, Austudillo and Wilson. If they continue to finish the season on down notes I could see them removing Stewart, Slegers and Granite with their fingers crossed that no one claims them and not being upset if someone does. I'd remove De Jong as well but my money is on the front office keeping one of their mid-season pickups. That's a lot of turnover, but I'm just fine with that.
  11. Burdi is on a rehab assignment with Pittsburgh. But he's been pitching since July 16th, and I believe pitchers get 30 days on assignment, meaning the Pirates are going to have to call him up by the end of the week. Here's to a continued push for a WC spot for the Pirates so as to make keeping a freshly TJ'd pitching with a history of control issues a tough ask of the team!
  12. It's probably not the pick that matters so much as the money. Picking 10th instead of 20th means your draft pool his higher than 20 other teams. But I'm not too concerned with the draft, other teams are clearly tanking and have a huge head-start, I don't think the Twins could crack the top ten if they tried. And so-far-so-good for the front office's draft strategy, these guys seem to know some pretty good angles from either end of the draft position. On the other hand .500 doesn't do too much for me either. I'm long bored with mediocre teams; I'll take them seriously when they have a legit shot at the title. I'm still watching to see the young guys, but the outcome of the games aren't terribly concerning to me. I'll be interested when the games have some consequence to them. It's been a long time since I've felt that; I didn't really even feel it last year.
  13. I could get behind any kind of creative possibilities. Normally I'd say the Twins should wait until everyone has gotten a taste of the MLB before deciding down a path, but there are just so many corner bats lurking that they probably should make some pre-emptive decisions this offseason, even if they haven't seen everyone. Reminds me of early this century when the Twins had Hunter and Jones as locks and were dabbling with Mohr, Kielty and Buchanan while Cuddyer, Restovich, Kubel, Morneau, Ryan, Ford, Sears and others were all knocking on the door. Kielty and Buchanan were moved in quality trades and several of the others were long time fixtures.
  14. That's really encouraging, though Gardenhire probably liked the "lot of sink" more than the new front office does. I'm encouraged that a pitcher's height no longer appears to be a de facto disqualification for starting opportunities.
  15. I don't know about continuing the quest as a starter, but I've long believed he should get a serious look in the pen.
  16. Even if the manager wasn't involved, suspending the manager would still serve the same purpose. Who's going to try to plunk a batter knowing it's his boss who he's going to have to account to. You can bet any manager who may have previously been behind these actions or even turned a blind eye to them is going to start cracking down.
  17. Maybe it's not the finger, maybe it's just because he's almost 36. I think most of us have been waiting for the other shoe to drop on Santana for a couple years now, this might just be it and the finger has little to no correlation.
  18. That crossed my mind, however most still call him the greatest hitter of all time. .344 career BA and the last man to hit .400 while striking out about once a week. If I have to choose again though, I'll go with Stan Musial.
  19. I'm just going to assume these guys are frightened they'll get mono if it appears they're kissing his butt.
  20. I guess I didn't clarify, but my second paragraph wasn't a specific endorsement of trading for pitchers, just trading in general from the young MLB-capable pitchers the Twins are starting to stockpile. And yes I know, you can never have too much pitching.
  21. That sounds like quite a prognosis from the armchair. Last year the young pitcher clearly started to get worn down in July, this year it looks like it's August. Last year he got a second wind and recovered nicely to finish the season. This year he's also averaging 6 1/3 innings per start as opposed to last years 5 2/3 innings per start. But I'll admit, my take is only a theory.
  22. Agree on all fronts, but while the team doesn't need help, I'd still take some upgrades if they were presented. They don't need any more mid-to-back of the rotation guys though, that's for sure. Upgrade big or not at all. Some of those young starters probably don't have a ton of value on their own but would make great complimentary pieces in a bigger deal to a team who wants some "MLB ready" players. I'd really push to move Gonsalves in a big deal, and he might be able to be a headliner or at least a really good 2nd piece. He's the one prospect that I don't trust but has also put up a really good season, at least with the surface numbers.
  23. The free agent market is pretty thin assuming Kershaw isn't coming here, but I wouldn't be opposed to a trade that would slot someone in ahead of Berrios to make the Twins rotation competitive with the AL's elite. There's lots of packages I'd offer the Mets for one of their two studs. I'm open to other possibilities as well. I don't think there's any reason to pick up Santana's option. He might have to settle for a MiLB deal next year and if he does get an actual MLB contract it's going to be for a fraction of the $14M his option calls for. If the Twins want him, they can get him for much, much less after he becomes a free agent.
