  1. I can't imagine any catcher in AA or AAA that any of these players could have returned would have been a "prospect". They would have all been Bobby Wilson clones.
  2. To these trades? The Twins have been a losing team all year. Every day since opening day their manager looks like he's just buried his dog, their star 2B has looked bored and his play has echoed it and somehow the team's two "future stars" forgot everything they learned last year.
  3. I think the return probably was increased by the fact that the Twins took back Forsythe, he and his contract certainly had a negative value. I think it's an indication of Dozier's low, low value that the Twins couldn't have gotten anything if they didn't take back negative value. Also, there's little doubt in my mind that Dozier goes on a tear now. No one's fault but his.
  4. I can't imagine they've committed to anything. Sounds more like hedging their bets.
  5. Yeah, but there's only about a dozen people watching Twins games in September during a losing season.
  6. Smeltzer will look good in the pen once he's converted. He should go with the full beard though.
  7. The Twins took Forsythe back because he and Dozier have matching salaries. Forsythe himself is worth nothing, a net negative even. So the Twins ate money on the Lance Lynn deal, the Dozier deal and even a bit on the Zack Duke deal. I'm still annoyed they traded away Hughes for cash, but over all they've eaten more in the last couple of days then they saved on Hughes.
  8. He's a free agent after the season. If the Twins want him, they can get him then.
  9. Also, I believe Schoop has one more year of control.
  10. I don't know about Lynn, he pitched better but I was far from convinced he'd turned a corner. I could see Mejia being adequate and if they end up turning back to Romero, I think a case could be made that they upgraded. Escobar can't be replaced, but if Polanco regains his form from last year, he'd be a close proximate. I'll miss Pressly, but he looks about one more stretch of three consecutive days pitched away from a DL stint.
  11. Ha, sorry, no I meant Molitor was to learn the lesson. I'm a jerk but as much as I endorse the move, I'd still sympathize with Belisle should he be DFA'd.
  12. After which the front office should DFA Belisle to teach him a lesson. I'g guess Hildenberger just because Reed is coming off of an injury and is under contract for next year; I'll bet the FO makes it crystal clear to Molitor that Reed is to be brought back slowly. But honestly, with his low walk rate (at least this year) I'd make Magill the closer. Turn him into the next Brandon Kintzler, an unknown who came out of nowhere. Though Molitor clearly doesn't like him so that ain't happening.
  13. Sano used to play SS, you forgot that option.
  14. My (terrible and baseless) predictions: Dozier : stays - no market for him. Rodney: traded - for no one terribly exciting Gibson: stays - after hearing some intense rumors about him being moved leading up to the deadline Odorizzi: stays Morrison: stays - soon to be DFA'd Santana: stays for now - will make two more starts before clearing waivers and the Twins eat half of his remaining salary to move him + One super unexpected trade for a decent haul which will be very divisive on this site. I'm thinking Hildenberger or Kepler. Or someone not so divisive, for a minimal haul like recently acquired Tyler Austin. He looks like an A's type of player.
  15. I kind of thought he was a no-nonsense old school type but I could be wrong. I definitely don't want that type. I think this club needs someone who's innovative and who relates to the younger generation.
  16. Shhh he's the only guy we haven't traded yet.
  17. They could have gotten a dirty diaper in return for Lynn. This hopefully opens up a rotation spot for Romero or Gonsalves for the rest of the season. Addition by subtraction.
  18. At least Austin is a righty who can play 1B and the OF. Aug 1 I stick Morrison on revokable waivers. When no one bites I dangle him on the free agent market. When no one bites again I DFA him.
  19. Yawn. Let's do another one! Yeah De Jong looks like an easy DFA. I see he does have a slider though. Maybe he gets moved to the pen, drops everything but the FB and slider, gains a couple MPH and figures it out. In today's game there's no room for a guy who can't miss bats even in AA.
  20. I could see a scenario where the offer for Dozier is so pitiful that the Twins keep him and cross their fingers that he turns things around and is quasi-worth a QO. Unfortunately if that happens, the fans almost surely will not know the internal decision making process of that one. A Dozier/Duke pairing or something similar might help hide the low worth of the team's former best player.
  21. Out of five prospects where three or so are organizational top 30 guys? I'd expect one to turn into a decent contributor, two of them to make it to the show. If none of them pan out it is on the front office, they picked these players themselves. I won't criticize them for making the decision to trade, but yeah, it's on them. And I fully supported them for doing it. It's just part of the job, Molitor has to make a decision whether to use Addison Reed for the third day in a row and Berrios has to decide if he trusts his curveball on a 3-2 count.
  22. His numbers in 2017? His AAA numbers? He's pitched 13 innings this year and he's been yo-yo'd three times already.
  23. Either way, if Dozier is still a Twins once the deadline passes, TD is really going to need the front office to differentiate between whether they couldn't or wouldn't trade Dozier. It'll get ugly around here with people making their preferred assumptions.
  24. Right or wrong, I'd put good money on the belief that we'll at least hear them tied to him in the off season. Probably Ohtani and Darvish Part III.
  25. 8% was only the odds of winning the division. Winning the AL Central doesn't mean you're good and it doesn't mean you're a contender. I'd resent it if they skipped out on a chance to win the WS, not on the chance to get their teeth kicked in in the playoffs.
