  1. Forget about his big doubles yesterday, I think his 5th inning sac fly is the reason he should be playing most days and hitting near the top of the lineup. His MLB sample size is small, but I think his unmatched ability to avoid the strikeout was legendary before he was ever called up. Terry Francona was a fool for pitching to him with less than 2 outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd and a base open; every batter's goal is just to put the ball in play to score a run and Astudillo is almost a stone cold lock to do so. I could see an arguement for him to be a clutch situational pinch hitter, but there aren't enough black holes in the lineup that would tempt Baldelli to make that switch regularly. It's not like Castro is always going to be the one at the plate when you just need someone to make contact. Bottom line: if you assume the strikeout and un-intentional walk are not one of the probable outcomes of the at bat, he's often going to force the other team's manager to make decisions he typically would not have to.
  2. I'm hopeful he just did it yesterday. I think Polanco/Astudillo at the top of the lineup would look good right now, hopefully replaced by Buxton/Astudillo in a couple weeks.
  3. The gods were smiting Francona for his hubris in thinking Neal Rameriz would strike out the world’s most un-strike-out-able hitter.
  4. Ha, Cleveland deserves those runs! Why do you pitch to a guy who doesn’t strikeout with 1B open, one out and two runners on?!
  5. Base open for Astudillo. The numbers say give him a free pass. I bet they don’t.
  6. He looks like he’ll get a few more of them this year.
  7. Not a bad pitch. I like having a hitter who can jack one low and away.
  8. Yeah, keeping Perez stretched out was probabky just as big of a factor as keeping Pineda healthy. Control didn’t really seem to be Perez’s issue in the past, he was just extremely hittable. His first inning here was shaky, but not from a making contact standpoint. I was more encouraged than discouraged.
  9. If it helps him make it to September, I’m game.
  10. Even when failing to score end the first two games, this team seems much more enjoyable to watch.
  11. Three different catchers in three games. Interesting. Almost like there’s actually an honest completion. That’s good in my book, I never cared for the idea of handing the job over to Castro due to seniority or contract status.
  12. I expected and continue to expect better offense, but the team has faced two of the best starters in the game so I’m not going to over react after just two games.
  13. Mostly in the Twins favor. Seems rare to say that.
  14. Yeah, three pitching changes and a nobody sidearmer stepping off the rubber multiple times between pitches after the starters cruised through he game. I better not ever hear Francona complain about pitch clocks and three batter minimums; he’s part of the problem that needs fixing.

  16. Bump. It has been 5 hours and I am desperately waiting to hear if something is wrong with Trevor May?! Twitter folks? La Velle? Anyone?
  17. Sounds exactly like Christmas, the rich kids usually get the best toys unless the parents of the middle class kids stray out of their comfort zone a bit. Which many do, just not ours.
  18. Oof, hope it was a something he ate. If May goes down for an extended period of time, perhaps that would be motivation enough to get Kimbrel.
  19. Well if the team is willing to trade from the MLB level, moving median level guys is probably going to help bring back good players more so than a below median player. I'd think if you have a whole team of average players, you could then just go out and seek the best possible bats, position be damned. Rosario and Polanco may be decent enough players, but it shouldn't stop the team from improving those positions if something better is out there.
  20. Even if Austin does go unclaimed, doesn't he have the ability to refuse an assignment since he's already been outrighted? If I were the Twins and I was going to remove Austin from the 25 man, I think I'd be more inclined to do so when it is MORE likely that he'll get claimed, I'd assume then there would at least be a market for him and they could get something in return. If he makes it through waivers, does he really want to stay here when he's still staring at Cron, Cruz, Sano, Gonzalez, Garver, Austudillo, Cave, Rooker, Wade and Weil all dreaming to take his at bats this year?
  21. This roster looks destined to see lots and lots of transactions. Sounds like a fun summer as long as I can separate myself from getting overly attached to anyone. Barring injury, the full list of players I am relatively confident will be on the 25-man come August 1st: Max Kepler Jorge Polanco Jose Berrios
  22. I think criticism of his ability to find linemen in the draft is still fair game. O Linemen, tackles specifically, aren't cheap so your team would be best off being able to get them as draft picks. QBs too.
  23. When the Broncos were good they always seemed to have a pretty good run/pass mix.
  24. I feel a little burned by Tyler Duffey and his magic curveball so I'm less enamored with Harper than others seem to be. I will predict Harper will be better than Duffey has been the last three years, but I'm not going to put much weight on that prediction. No matter though, there weren't a ton of other options and Harper is definitely a feel good story and a guy to cheer for.
