  1. It was for their brand new stadium too. Just opened and they dropped food and beverages across the board. The must be doing OK, they are lowering the prices again for the upcoming season, hot dogs are only a buck fifty now: https://mercedesbenzstadium.com/mercedes-benz-stadium-cuts-food-prices-second-time/ I'd be nice if someone would ask St Peter about that.
  2. Well if they're not paid $15 an hour, how could they afford to eat one of the hot dogs marked up 800% that their selling? Scratch that, a $15 an hour job ain't going to afford them the money to attend a game. This was the first opening day since I was legal drinking age that I didn't have a beer. I'm not waiting in line for ten minutes for a Bud Light and I'm repulsed by the prices of decent beer. Thankfully Berrios was great and got us out of the stadium in under 3 hours so as I could pay Fulton a more reasonable price for better quality beer afterwards. As much as it might surprise St. Peter, I don't go to baseball games for the restaurants and concessions.
  3. Alcala is looking good, at least as far as numbers go. He hasn't finished 6 innings yet, but he also hasn't thrown more than 90 pitches in an outing and he's only issued three walks in four starts. His strike percentage last year was only 59% but so far is 62% this year. That's pretty close to league average at the MLB level. Keep it up Jorge.
  4. Nick Vincent signed a MiLB deal, had the Twins been interested in him they could have easily had him a month ago. Sam Dyson doesn't historically miss many bats, that doesn't sound like a pitcher on this new-era Twins. If the Giants aren't moving Will Smith now, I don't see much of a fit at the moment.
  5. World Series champ Mike Pagliarulo is out of a job. https://mobile.twitter.com/JoeFrisaro/status/1119430370712281089
  6. I think it might be great in that it would perhaps be the most obviously repulsive salary manipulation yet. It would be so obviously obscene that it just might be the straw that broke the owners' back.
  7. Selling is a good move if you're aiming to win a World Series? Seems conventional wisdom says to buy in those circumstances. Or do you just mean selling high is better than selling low, because that could have and should have gone without saying.
  8. Why isn’t this someone’s profile pic yet?
  9. The "needed" part is probably the sticking point. They were a bad team last year so they didn't need him then. This year it appears they could make some noise and could use him, but we already heard from Falvey (maybe it was Lavine) that they weren't going to chase big ticket free agents yet until they thought their window was open. I'm sure marketing and ticket sales loved that interview by the way. So if they didn't feel the window was yet open, I'd assume the same logic (even if inaccurate) would have been applied to the trade of Pressly.
  10. I don't think Cron, Schoop or Gonzalez had anything to do with the team not signing relievers this off season seeing as how many perfectly usable relievers had to settle for minor league deals and only 6 got more than $3M AAV. If they didn't want to use the A list, this team could have overhauled the pen on the cheap but they didn't. I mean if in November someone had said the Twins were going to sign Tyler Clippard, Bud Norris, Nick Vincent and Daniel Hudson, we probably would have said, eh, not great, but not bad. I'm not sure why they sat on their hands but it couldn't have been because of financial constraints. I'd guess it has to do with (?misplaced?) faith in internal options, but it would be nice if we could get an answer or two.
  11. If the Twins starting pitching options in 2020 boils down to Berrios, Mejia and the AA/AAA guys, I’d prefer most of the candidates got themselves 60+ MLB innings this year so we’re not going in so blind next year.
  12. I'd like to sign Kimbrel and I was disappointed that the team didn't sign about three quality bullpen arms this winter. However, I don't have much of a leg to stand on in the 'see I told you so' game as I'm quite certain I posted more than once that the only three guys I really had my heart set on, because they had the track record, the health and the strikeouts, all of which I thought were indicative of continued success were David Robertson, Jeurys Familia and Joakim Soria. All have been terrible.
  13. He can still go 6 innings each game. Assuming he always has a perfect game going when he gets the hook.
  14. Other teams, the Cardinals come to mind, have no problem letting a guy like Graterol develop in the pen then moving him to the rotation the following year. I'd guess the Twins will leave Graterol alone for awhile, but someone needs to start getting creative with the MLB pen.
  15. Kepler is batting .259. It would seem to me that Cron had a better than 25% chance of scoring. Heck, aside from needing two on target throws and a perfect carom, it seems to me the catcher or relay man juggle or drop the ball 25% of the time on these plays anyway.
  16. I don’t think Adrianza is as good defensively as advertised. Adequate would be the word I’d use.
  17. That is definitely not my biggest gripe with Duffy (sic) being back.
  18. You seriously think a computer is going to be less consistent than a 60-year-old man wearing a face mask, sweating in an all black uniform standing in 95 degree July heat for three hours?
  19. Sears made it a heck of a long time too. But then they failed to adapt and embrace innovation.
  20. I was hoping to hear more about why he wasn't extended this off season. Kepler and Polanco were while we heard enough to know that there were discussions with Berrios and Gibson. What about Rosario? I'd assume there was at least a conversation, but if that was made public I missed it.
  21. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'd assume any of us in favor of automated balls and strikes calls is basing it on the assumption that the veracity of the technology is vetted and perfected to acceptable terms. If it's not 100% accurate it would be easy to find out. I doubt any switch would happen without significant testing to the technology that would be used. And I'd guess Statcast wouldn't be given this golden ticket; the new system would probably be based on a similar but different tech proprietary to the MLB.
  22. When the human is wearing a glove, running the bases or holding a bat. I think half of the problem is that some of the umpires think they ARE one of the players in the game.
  23. I usually don’t think of guys hitting 95 as smoke and mirrors. Not the his plus velocity means he’ll be good.
  24. Yeah, we already had the referendum on the merits of “the human element” in umpiring when they went to review with the neighborhood play at 2B and hit by pitch. Finish the job and rip the band aid off. If losing the theatrics of the umpires’ strike three calls is too hard of a pill to swallow, compromise and let the umps be the intermediary between the robots and the fans. It should be split second automation. .
  25. Me too. At this point I might suspect it will be after the June draft which may bring in more budders.
