  1. I wanted Darvish. He has/had good velocity, plus breaking pitches and a history of strong strikeout rates. I don’t want Keuchel, he has none of those, I don’t know why we can’t evaluate free agent on a deeper dive than desired contract.
  2. Yeah, I'd like Kimbrel. Unlike starters there's way more recent examples of relievers pitching to satisfaction well into their 30's. Unless there's some kind of medical red flags we aren't seeing, I don't think the floor is real low with a big armed reliever. Also, if you're giving up a draft pick, why would you only want a guy for 1 year anyway? Three is fine.
  3. But it's not just a talking point, there rarely are any good free agent starting pitchers any more. Teams are extending the good ones and teams are getting smarter about recognizing the ones that make it to market but appear to be more smoke and mirrors. I don't want to sign someone just to sign someone. I don't think Keuchel would be any good on the Twins, so to me it would appear to be window dressing only. The good teams are developing and extending their own starters these days, it's incumbent that the Twins start doing the same.
  4. No, I just think committing a long leash to a guy who can't strike anyone out and will be making the team's worst two fielders make the most outs is a terrible idea. And yes I'm serious, I'd rather give Stewart a shot. And Romero and Thorpe. I'd rather see Gonsavles again. I have little faith in groundball artists and I have even less in pitchers signing this late in the year. Teams are devaluing two-seam fastballs and it's clear by seeing how long it's taken Keuchel, Lynn, Cobb and Arrieta to get jobs the last two years. There's no way it's a coincidence that it's sinkerballers that aren't getting extended and aren't getting calls on the free agent market. The Twins have turned up the emphasis on strikeouts; it's no surprise to me that they haven't been tied to this guy at all. He's a big name, but he's not a good fit. I'm not against signing free agents, I'm just against signing this one.
  5. I think it's Cave. Gonzalez and Astudillo would be the 4th and 5th OF. I don't think Adrianza is nearly as good defensively as advertised, but he's probably better than Gonzalez and as far as the bench goes, the back up SS is probably more important than the 4th OF when the entire starting outfield can all man CF when needed. Plus Cave would only be a 10 day assignment away from being able to be recalled. I don't have a problem with losing Castro except I'd rather have the flexibility to have Garver and Astudillo in the lineup when needed, which might be often. I normally wouldn't advocate for a 3rd catcher, but when two of your best hitters are catchers then I can get behind it.
  6. If you're going to use a pitcher who's going to make us watch Sano and Polanco get half of his outs for him you might as well just call up Kohl Stewart to do it.
  7. Yeah, no one should be against signing needed free agents, but that should come with the caveat that dollars spent do not correlate to the length of leash.
  8. Yeah but Albies came to ownership because ownership has so thoroughly manipulated the system that the players are forced to come to them on their knees if they want to get any kind of compensation during their peak years. I want the Twins to develop players worthy of early career extensions, but if they even proposed a deal like this to a desperate young international signee I wouldn’t feel great about it.
  9. The Nationals deal with Norris fell through because they feel he's at least a month away from contributing. I'd pass on Johnson, he can't strike anyone out.
  10. I'm with you on May. I'm a fan of Rogers and Parker has looked better from his first couple of shakey outings but the jury is still out. Hildenberger? Maybe, I'm still on the fence after last year. But even if all four of those guys are good to great, there's always room for bullpen improvement, ask the A's last year.
  11. I wouldn't want to give up on Vasquez already, but even with all the strikeouts, the guy still was only throwing 90 MPH last year when he was up with the Twins. If that's what we are to expect from his velocity, I'm not going to expect great results from him at the MLB level. With Perez going to the rotation I think Stewart or Romero should be added to the pen, they'll need multi inning guys. Or they could skip AAA and get Cody Stashak from AA. One of my personal favorites and a guy who typically goes multiple innings. I don't think he's in AA because he needed remedial work, I'd guess it was because there were just too many options for Rochester and he didn't have seniority. Also, Kimbrel.
  12. Not at all, those young men can have at their video games. Seth said "I'm sure you recall", which I assumed was tongue in cheek because I would absolutely not recall considering my total lack of interest in e-sports.
  13. I missed the fireworks. Sounds like we miss the good old days when De Jong was pitching?
  14. Yay Time for one of the young starters to step up force their way into the MLB rotation.
  15. The Vikes are signing an awful lot of former AAF players; 5 total so far I believe. No OL. I'd imagine (hope) most don't make the team but maybe there's a diamond in the rough in there. I wish the lack of depth didn't make it necessary to grab so many of these guys though.
  16. Yeah, comparing Austin and his one tool isn't fair to Benson who at least had three.
  17. I may have missed that. Congrats I'm sure are due to all who participated, I'm very proud of the e-talent our club has assembled.
  18. With managers' reluctance to play both catchers in the same lineup, it's probably hard to see Garver and Astudillo regularly on the field if Castro is sent down. I'd rather Castro be removed from the roster than either Garver or Astudillo sent down, but I'd keep him around if it allows for the other two to play most days.
  19. I feel bad for De Jong, but I was never terribly interested in him due to his inability to miss bats in the minors. I'd like to see Vazquez or Stewart in the pen instead. Assuming Romero isn't ready.
  20. I like the subtext here as well. Even though they're not in the same clubhouse, Garver's still chatting up the pitchers. That sounds like a real catcher to me!
  21. I can't imagine it will be Duffey, he already got replaced by Ryne Harper. It would seem silly to have two curveball-only pitchers in the pen. Heck, it seems silly to have even one.
  22. The odds are certainly better than when he has one strike.
  23. If it was Pelfrey it would still be the top of the 1st.
  24. Huh, just realized how dated this movie title is (and my movie reference). I used to have a thing for Bridget Fonda, but why exactly did she require a white roommate?
