  1. 6 pitch at bat from Gibson? That’s a win in my book. Get deGroom out of there.
  2. I did the slow-mo; it was legit. I’d guess the give away to the ump was the bounce though. It probably doesn’t ricochet 3/4 the way back to the infield off of the padding.
  3. I don’t believe you. I heard you too are wearing an undershirt and dress pants just as a I am.
  4. Uh freaky. I hope this isn’t a Single White Female situation.
  5. Well don’t forget Adrianza is an option as well.
  6. A couple of well struck balls by Astudillo and Rosario. Encouraging even if intitialy fruitless.
  7. I would have even preferred low end pitching and see if Was Johnson is truly magical. But either way I’m glad they ripped the band aid off now instead of letting it linger into the summer. I think it was better for the anxious fans on both sides of the debate. And certainly better for Austin.
  8. Strikeouts cure all kinds of defensive problems. Go get 'em Kyle.
  9. I was really hoping to see a sucker select -Every prospect if they would let me-* *We would totally let you
  10. Sure but if Andreoli is called up to the majors to be the 4th/5th OF, I think I'd still prefer he was the 4th OF in Rochester so the prospects could get most of the defensive reps. It's only been four games so we'll have to see how it plays out, but I'd worry that if Raley is stuck DH'ing half of the time, he's going to be pigeon-holed similarly at the majors. I'd also hope that if the Twins needed another defensively competent OF for a short term replacement, even if it's the 4th OF, that it would be Wade, not Andreoli. There are too many of these guys in Rochester right now. Even if it's sporadic, I hope they start giving them some MLB looks when they can because there will never be a scenario where there's room on the MLB roster for all of them. The clock is already ticking on figuring out the growing logjam of corner bats, they need to use any kind of injury replacement for MLB evaluations.
  11. Why is Raley playing CF and DH? Is Wade not a better CF candidate than Raley? And is Andreoli really going to be the primary CF? Because I'd like to see all of Wade, Raley, Rooker and Weil starting and playing the field most days. Also, Cody Stashak = future Twins multi inning bullpen ace who too many people slept on. A year from now 29 other teams are going to look at each other and say "I can't believe we didn't grab him in the Rule V!"
  12. Close your eyes if you happen across Jason Castro's OPS+ this year. He's not in Davis territory, but it ain't positive.
  13. I don't know, it kind of looks like he stole two maybe three strikes and had five maybe four strikes called balls.
  14. Yeah, but that's only about a dollar a strikeout.
  15. I wouldn't have minded trying him in the OF. Though even if they had, the way things are shaking out this year I wouldn't have wanted him to get too many at bats anyway. I used to be a platoon Kepler guy, I'm starting to buy into the hype and contract extension now though.
  16. What was it you were hoping the Twins would do with him?
  17. Doesn't look like much of a prospect, but getting nothing for him was an option too. I was hoping for some fringey pitcher as I'd be more likely to put stock in Wes Johnson maximizing a new arm than I am that the team has some magic tricks to fix the hitters. Good luck to Austin, overcoming unsightly strikeout numbers appears to be among the hardest, if not the hardest thing to do in this game, but I hope he does. The bench still isn't safe, now I wonder who's on the chopping block once Sano comes back (assuming everyone stays healthy). With the addition of a third baseman, I could see an argument for removing any of Adrianza, Cave, Castro, Garver or Astudillo. I definitely have a couple of preferred options but should be a legit debate all around.
  18. If the rules had actually been meant to hold teams to spending limits there wouldn't have been penalties in the first place because there wouldn't have been the option of going overslot. There was no breached agreement, if there was, teams would have been forced to relinquish the rights to the prospects, as the Braves were forced to last year when they actually were in violation of International Signing rules. It was no different than going over the salary cap luxury tax threshold. Plenty of teams (used to) do that.
  19. Those stats seem to agree with me. Still looks like one 90 OPS+ Season since 2013.
  20. I’m a bigger believer when Adrianza and Castro aren’t BOTH in the lineup. And while I was more than happy with the Marwin González signing, it wasn’t because I wanted him batting cleanup.
  21. I have no angst with keeping Castro; if they can swing three catchers it’s fine by me. I’d just hate to see them keep him at the expense of a roster spot or at bats for Garver or Astudillo. I don’t think he’s a 90 OPS+ guy though. He’s done that once since 2013. I was always fine with the Castro signing but I always assumed he was just a place holder until they found a longer term answer, which I think they have.
  22. Hope Berrios doesn’t realize he missed out on a dozen at bats from The A team.
  23. I thought Graver looked fine behind the plate by the end of the year; he really struggled early but I thought he was more than capable by September after getting consistent playing time. Certainly not so bad as to need to hamstring the roster with a third string catcher. They got that Tellis guy in Rochester if they need someone later.
  24. You can play that hypothetical off of any position though. I wouldn’t want to sacrifice production we are getting now for insurance against something that hasn’t happened yet. And that insurance isn’t really guarding against much if one perceives Castro’s bat as poorly as I do. I might not go with Navarreto, but I don think the waiver wire vet du juor is going to be much of a step back.
  25. I’m guessing they’re getting the extra reliever up now in preparation for a five man rotation. Also, perhaps the team is getting the inkling that Perez is best used out of the pen. I like what the Austin DFA implies. In past years it seems like the Twins would have absolutely optioned Garver or Astudillo, despite their production, simply to try to wring the last drips of hope out of Austin’s chances of sticking. It’s early, but they’re leading the division and the other teams look bad. At least in Austin’s case, they’re not sacrificing the MLB roster and risking wins now because they want to cross their fingers on a long shot player with only one defining tool.
