  1. I'm right there with Tom. The bullpen has been just fine, but I don't trust it so I'd like to find some upgrades. And while I wanted Kimbrel early on, I don't trust any pitcher to round into form this late into the year. I would disagree in that while his end of 2018 numbers aren't pretty, his velocity is likely still good enough to work; but perhaps not until 2020. So I'd take him on a multi-year deal but I'd think there'd be a better than even chance that he'd be a pretty big liability for the 2019 club.
  2. Reading today's game thread intro, it occurs to me that Blake has a dash of personality, more so than Don and wsndys anyhow. 5K+ posts isn't too shabby either as far as frequency goes.
  3. As Carole implied, it's probably hard to gauge if they visit the site infrequently or just post infrequently. Either way, it feels like we're looking for new blood to keep this fresh and for new eyes on the game threads. Workload doesn't appear to be a big issue, so I don't see any problem with someone who's not checking in constantly. I don't think we need to be looking to fill a full time job opening.
  4. Yeah can’t object with spycake. And I’ll also double my efforts to get into the game threads. After the kids are in bed at least.
  5. I didn’t believe in the 2015 or 2017 teams as I said they didn’t feel like an actual cohesive unit. With those teams it never seemed like more than two or three players were ever playing well at one time. I said last winter I’ll believe this team would be ready to compete the when they more remind me of the 2001-2006 teams. Well they do now.
  6. Man, his pitches are really moving.
  7. I didn't mean to suggest he'd be able to DH on one leg, but considering the physical strain of the position, I'd think a player may typically be out longer for a sprained ankle at catcher than he may any other position.
  8. Yeah, funny stuff Stu. I can say that because the Twins still won. I wonder what caused Cron to take his eye off the ball? It looked like he was playing close enough to the bad that he didn't need to sprint back to cover it.
  9. He's striking out well below his career low, which seems to be a trend on the team as well. Something good has fallen upon this clubhouse!
  10. Yeah, and some bozo around here said he was washed up and should only be kept around on the bench so as to be able to allow Garver and Astudillo to play regularly! Is that the proper emoji to convey that I was the bozo?
  11. Good move too. Seems to me we've seen plenty of cases in this league where a guy plays through a wrist injury and it saps his power all year.
  12. Excellent! He may not have a high ceiling, but I always like these high contact guys to have a high floor. If he can make consistent contact I like his chances of sticking around awhile.
  13. I was an advocate for Buxton to move up early, but since everyone is hitting, I don't know that I much care. If I was going to move him up, I'd probably put him in the #2 hole and have Polanco lead off though.
  14. What?!?! How was the manager and pitcher arguing that ejection? The guy intentionally threw behind Lewis because of the silly push-up thing. That manager looked pretty young, and I feel bad for saying this, but if he thinks retaliation is justified for a batter doing a push up at 2nd base I hope he's never considered for promotion.
  15. I'd like there to be as many good options as possible for the pen, but unless Vasquez can gain significant velocity I don't think he'll be able to do much at the MLB level.
  16. I think all that can be agreed to is that the bullpen, like always, is a worry. But the path the front office chose has thus far worked, the players we all wanted are getting destroyed league-wide and had we had our way we'd all have more to complain about.
  17. Just for fun, my prediction for the staying power of the JMRC (JourneyMen Reliever Club) from 1st gone to last: 1. Harper - Curveball wizard? Been there done that and Duffey's still here anyway. 2. Adams - Among the other three, his name is first alphabetically so the GM will think of him first when it's time to swing the axe. 3. Morin - With Hildenberger gone, no one in the pen throws much of a changeup, someone in the pen needs to have one right? 4. Magill - He was the only one to survive last year's JMRC carousal, he must have some dirt on someone.
  18. Right, but it's more encouraging than a 32-year-old journeyman reliever hitting 91-92. No reason not to call up Reed if you think velocity isn't of value.
  19. My distaste for Adams has been been somewhat diminished since Seth stated in the other thread he sits at 95-96 with his heater. The strikeouts might not be such an illusion if accurate. He wasn't my first choice, and I still would give him the boot (and Harper and Morin) at the first sign of not being able to cut it, but I'm generally OK with checking out guys with good velocity.
  20. I hope so, but it could be the other way around too. Sellers might know the return for Duke types isn't likely to increase as the summer wears on so those are the guys sloughed off first.
  21. Or TBD. I'd guess most teams aren't willing to trade top end relief arms this early. If one team is willing to blow them away with an offer, they'd think, surely there are more, let's drag this out with a bidding war. Though I'm not sure I'll end up wanting the guys seen as the cream of the crop, I usually don't put much faith in numbers translating across leagues and teams. Both of those guys would be fine as they're rarely ever great but they're consistently decent to good. I'll bet there are lesser known guys with better velocity, peripherals and fewer innings the last few years who'd intrigue me just as much.
  22. It was a long shot that Magill would last as long as he has, but then Harper, than Morin now Adams? I hope their luck (ugh, or skill if it's legit) holds in identifying these journeymen relievers. Every pen arm still on the roster has gotten the job done thus far so it's hard not to at least give some benefit of the doubt, but that's got to be the most unexciting relief corps I've seen in a long time.
  23. Please go to Pensacola for relief help. I've definitely got my preferred choice but there are a few arms down there that I'd rather see than Adams or anyone else still hanging around Rochester.
  24. I'd remove Reed and Torreyes without batting an eyelash. Moya, Vasquez and Hildenberger would merely get a shoulder shrug. Mejia would get a consolatory handshake and I'd tell him, "I'd like to give you a longer leash, but there's just no room to carry you this year on the 25-man, good luck to you sir as long as it's not in the AL Central. Or the Yankees."
