Most of us don’t binge watch two seasons of something a month; that’s a completely different demographic than the mid-to-upper-middle-age fans that casually watch their local baseball team a few times a week. The “streaming revolution” was full of false promises and cheaper rates. For consumers, regional sports and local news have been most impacted. Regional sports still have leverage to change things, and they can if the owners would care more about prolonging the product instead of maximizing profit from in the moment. And comparing cable prices of yore to now is ridiculous. You used to be able to watch EVERYTHING on cable for one fee. Now you’d have to pay 20x that amount to watch everything,

Interesting that his K, BB, Hit and HR numbers have changed quite a bit the last two years in he minors. Maybe it’s just getting out of the dreaded PCL? Or maybe he’s got new pitches? If you’re going to find a player with a late career transformation, it most likely will be a relief pitcher. Good luck all around.
-
FSN/cable never cost $20/month for one channel. But I’m confused, why do they need to negotiate? Don’t they have the broadcast rights already? If not, stay firm Twins, tell them to screw off, wait until they cry uncle, sell you back the rights, then send it to any and every willing broadcaster. Stop killing the game.

Fun to see five more college free agents signed. I suppose they'd be like draft picks 21-25 in other years. Not much info on that John Klein. BBR only shows one season of college ball and no age for him.

Three of the Twins' Top Prospects Done for the Year
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Yeah, Lewis was already in this exact same spot and spent minimal time in the minors after his last injury. I'm not sure why it would be a longer stay next year. Similar things happened with Kirilloff and Sano; the good news is the Twins have a track record of offensive prospects not being derailed from the majors very long when they have season ending injuries.- 37 replies

Funny this doesn't come up with other stats that includes 'runs' in the acronym, just the OG acronym stat. DRSs, wRCs, RE24s
-
Looking forward to it, but haven't had time to start a new series yet.
-
I'm certainly looking forward to when the Twins have plenty of healthy starters to choose from, but I'm not counting on Paddock for the beginning of the year, and Dobnak is no more an answer than Devin Smeltzer is. Even IF Gray, Ryan, Mahle, Maeda, Winder and Ober are healthy and ready to go, I wouldn't be opposed to finding another option that's not currently in the system.

2022 Draft Class Update: Three Debut, Lee Promoted
nicksaviking replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Great news about Lee, though it shouldn't be too surprising since he and Noah Miller probably both need SS reps and Miller isn't going anywhere just yet. But it does bring up a bit of a quandary. Where ARE all of the college shortstops they just drafted going to play? They'll be sharing a bunch of reps or learning new positions right away it would seem.- 17 replies

High A is exciting for Lee. It's not terribly uncommon to see top end college players go there around the league, but it's uncommon for our team. If he tears it up this year, starting in Wichita isn't out of the question in 2023. The Twins having the first MLB graduate of a draft class might be a first. But I'll slow my horses. Don't want to get ahead of myself.

I like the idea of Varland being in AAA when the major league pitchers start rehabbing there. If he’s there while Meada, Winder and Ober start ramping up, it seems like it could induce a great mix of awe and inspiration. Put Canterino there too, even if it’s only in the pen.

Duffey had a really good run here and I wish him well. I hope he ends up in the NL though. I've been hoping to see Sands in the bullpen, I really like turning those borderline starters into relievers. Of course I was hoping to see him in St. Paul's bullpen first. Hope it works out, but if it doesn't I'm sure his leash will be short considering he has options.
-
They do need SOME bullpen depth. I'd rather have Moran up, but I understand why they're doing it this way; injuries happen as we should be well aware this year. Most of the other options in St. Paul are not very attractive. And if you can't figure out why they aren't just callously booting a guy who's been in the organization for 11 years and was good up until last year, I don't know what to tell you.

I'd prefer Moran, but sending him down instead of getting rid of Duffey keeps some depth. I'm ready to move along from Duffey, but if someone gets hurt, they're running out of AAA options as so many have already been DFA'd.

Pagan's never had an issue with walks until this year, and that issue has been subsiding recently. I agree, he looks on track to recover. But not for close games in the late innings. He doesn't seem to be that kind of pitcher. A high strikeout guy in the mid innings is going to be a big benefit.
-
If I’m honest, I think Pagan is going to pull a Colome and pitch well going forward despite fan unrest. Those walks were a bit of a career aberration. But I got a long memory so I’d have been OK if he was released instead of sending Moran down. Though Duffey might be a biggest question mark anyway. Also, to continue the rambling, is it too much to ask to sign Jeurys Familia too? His BABIP is over .400 this year. His being terrible seems like flukey SSS stuff.

Seems to me good relief efforts are contagious; I'm expecting everyone to step it up now that there's some momentum. If, IF the Twins get any of Maeda, Alcala, Winder or Ober back, is it a sure thing that Moran and/or Megill are next in line to lose their job? Or might it be Pagan and/or Duffey? Edit: I forgot Mahle hasn't been added yet, so that decision is forth coming. Interestingly, none of those four pitched today. Had one of them gotten overworked, that may have given us a hint.

Considering Noah Miller doesn't look anywhere near ready for a promotion, I could see them sending Lee directly to Cedar Rapids.

I definitely want to see him keep moving up, but I'd guess the 31% K rate is giving the team pause.

Assessing the Twins Trade for Tyler Mahle
nicksaviking replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Funny thing about last year's draft. While I was happy with Povich's and Hajjar's production so far, last season during the draft I wasn't exactly thrilled. TWO Big 10 pitchers in the first in the first four picks?!?! Big 10 pitchers hardly EVER succeed in the majors as starters. Alex Wimmers, Tyler Jay, Aaron Slegers. Learn your lesson already Twins! Who was the last decent starter the Big 10 produced, Jim Abbott (sorry Glen Perkins, get well soon Max Meyer)? Eagerly awaiting examples to show I was wrong.- 46 replies

Assessing the Twins Trade for Tyler Mahle
nicksaviking replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Last year Toronto gave up two top 100 prospects for Berrios, and Martin was in the top 50 range. Spencer Steer was just starting to crack a few lists this year and the other two players weren't considered top prospects. The Twins gave up more players, but as far as the industry insiders go, Toronto probably paid a higher price.- 46 replies

Twins Trade for Set-up Man Michael Fulmer
nicksaviking replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I see Fulmer is throwing his slider 65% of the time this year. Up from 40% last year and 20-25% as a starter. The Twins do like their sliders. -
Assessing the Twins Trade for Tyler Mahle
nicksaviking replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They should be in a good spot to make a sound evaluation. I have to think they'll have a pretty good read on the Maeda, Ober and Winder injuries well before free agency kicks into high gear.- 46 replies
