  1. I can't believe there are still six head coaching vacancies. Makes me think most of the teams must be hoping to land either Chris Shula or Klint Kubiak who are still in the playoffs? Maybe Vance Joseph, he's had rumors as well. And train wreck franchises Arizona, Las Vegas and Cleveland have to know that they won't get anybody that Pittsburgh, Baltimore and even the clearly dysfunctional Bills (who still have Josh Allen) want right?
  2. I get trading Larnach. I'm all for it. But it doesn't address the problem that there are still AT MINIMUM a dozen players worse than Larnach on the roster, and the only 'utility' any of them have is they can passably field a certain position, while none of them can actually hit.
  3. I don't like reunions because usually they reek of fan service. This one makes sense though. And 2M seems like a bargain honestly.
  4. That's right. I doubt he gets the job, but the silver lining is nice.
  5. Ryan Fitzgerald certainly wasn't flattering about Flores' demeanor. Even aside from the collusion issue, there are some warts. It does kind of sound like he's got a Mike Zimmer reputation. Zero chance he's anywhere near as unpleasant as Zimmer though. And I'm guessing Flores is a different guy than when he was in Miami. After all, he first learned how to coach from Bill Belichick. He's since moved on and seen both KOC and Tomlin command a team and in completely different ways. Flores' best shot at a HC job has to be here in Minnesota. If KOC struggles for the next year or so but the defense shines, he'd have to be the favorite for the job.
  6. That would be cool, but I'd think if Flores got a HC job, he and the team would rather keep that pick regardless of his feelings towards the Vikings. So that pick compensation likely makes him a less attractive candidate. He and his agent would know that, therefore, I suspect he already knows he's already out of the running for the Ravens and Steelers jobs.
  7. This roster just makes no sense. What is this team supposed to be? A contending team, (which of course is the kind of team the Twins always claim to be....) doesn't roster all of Outman, Wagaman, Kreidler, Julien, Clemens, Larnach, Jackson, Gray and Pereda, they probably roster two, maybe three of those kinds of players at most, but no more than two on the 26-man. A team on the opposite side of the spectrum, a rebuilding team, should have even LESS desire for these largely aging players with little utility and no value. There is no identity or seemingly any direction for this club right now. There is no shining path forward when your plan involves using 30% of your roster for waiver wire fodder. There was so little reason for them to spend their offseason cycling through the players other teams no longer wanted. Absolutely baffling and pointless.
  8. No, the anger is how large the bottom of the 40 man roster is. They need to stop bothering replacing Gaspar and Brujan and Fitzgerald with clones. What is the point, is Jeremy Zoll just bored? They need to start replacing them with guys who fit at the top of the roster. They should have cut the chaff months ago, but here we are, just recycling it.
  9. Offensively you have Outman, Wagaman, Kreidler, Julien, Clemens, Jackson, Pereda and now Gray. I know some would toss Larnach on that list but I won't. Adams, Orze, Raya and Topa on the pitching side. I'm not dumping Adams, Orze or Raya just for the hell of it, but I also wouldn't sweat removing them if something better came along. And obviously nine better sosmthings aren't coming along.
  10. Five year deal. I've been wrong plenty, but I bet they regret this deal by the All-Star break.
  11. The Pirates aren't getting credit for one season of minimal to modest spending after thirty years of doing absolutely nothing. I'll move them up a peg if they do this for the next 5-10 years.
  12. Right, but when you say bottom of the 40 man roster, for most teams that's like four or five spots, for the Twins it's a dozen. And you don't improve the team by tinkering with these guys, you improve the team by removing these kinds of players for guys who can help the team.
  13. Yeah, that team really was cratered by the fact that they couldn't play in cold weather. Which seems like a really weird excuse. But, man, the record doesn't lie. I have to think you put that on the GM for not getting the right kind of players.
  14. Well at least he got one right. The Bills most definitely hit a playoff wall.
  15. And all of these owners need to start hiring some kind of consigliere or something. Somebody who knows people and football, but has NO hand in hiring people so his or her self interests are never at stake. Someone who knows everyone in the organization, but isn't chummy with them. A trusted advisor who doesn't have promotional opportunities or a vested interest in proving they made the right decisions would be great insulation to easily swayed owners who would otherwise have to rely on the honesty of team presidents or GMs or coaches who all are looking to either save their jobs or be promoted to more powerful jobs.
  16. Yeah what a mess. I guess if the head coach was calling the shots on player personnel, then he probably deserved more blame from the fans than he was getting. Hey, maybe Josh Allen will get fussy and pull a reverse Stefon Diggs with the Vikings!
  17. Yeah, have to think Herbert will like this better than what he's been used to. McDaniel did cut his teeth as a run game coordinator, but I'm pretty sure nobody noticed that Tua Tagovialoa of all people led the league in completion percentage in 2024 and led the league in passing yards in 2023.
  18. Yeah, Salah (and pretty much every other coach) never had a chance with the Jets. So much dysfunction. I'm not sure he's not walking into the same situation though. Tennessee did hire a new GM last year, but still, that GM hired and kept an offensive staff including Nick Holz, Bo Hardegree and Mike McCoy who seem to have absolutely no business being in charge of raising a QB you drafted 1.01. I mean there is nothing in their resumes that suggest they are capable of creating a top end franchise QB. They all came from either Jacksonville, where everyone failed Trevor Lawrence for four years, or Las Vegas, which needs no explanation for criticism. I too don't understand the Hafley love. But I also didn't understand it when the Packers hired him. What exactly did he do at BC? Not win. Not develop NFL talent. GB had a good but not elite defense, which pretty much describes every GB defense for the last 30 years. Also, now Miami will surely be switching from a 3-4 to a 4-2 defense. Not sure that's going to gel with their highest paid player Bradley Chubb and their recent first round pick Chop Robinson. Last year's pick Kenneth Grant should be fine, and I'm guessing their other highly paid vet Zach Sieler can also go inside. But that's a lot of money and draft capital you're risking by switching up the defense.
  19. There was a time when rostering a no-name, ageing, journeyman player was quaint and interesting and people could cheer for the feel good story. But when that's the only kind of player you bring in, you're just going to get everyone to cheer against them.
  20. My bad, it was the end of the work day and I was skipping ahead. I thought they had them drafting McDonald, the Oregon safety and the Florida center. Edit: Ah, I'm guessing the Vikings have two 3rd round picks. I didn't stick around for that one. I'm also guessing the Vikings aren't going to reach for a character guy.
  21. Don't know enough about the last two picks, but I like the direction.
  22. Not once did I trash these players, and in multiple other threads I've acknowledged that they hired a Kevin Goldstein a few years back and hopefully that will start showing results. Still, either by choice or by folly, they still are not in position to sign the top international free agents and it's been that way for a decade now. I suggested that they try a different approach since this one hasn't been paying off, that shouldn't be that objectionable. For some reason this topic seems pointedly personal to you. If you want to share the source of your expertise feel free.
  23. Probably. At least for underclassmen. True seniors like Jalen Hurts could still slip though I'd assume.
  24. For sure. Not a fan. Funny though, if he leads them down for a game winning drive, I could see him going in the second round. If he doesn't I could see him going in the sixth.
  25. Pretty sure these are things you don't want to think too hard about south of the Mason/Dixon line.
