  1. I've seen Elijah Sarrat getting mocked in the first round. I thought that Mesidor from Miami looked like he'd be a good DE in a 3-4 defense, but they just said his weight was 270 lb, which is probably too light. He looks like he's 290 lb. though. I like his motor, but he looks too bulky to be an NFL edge guy.
  2. Unless one were to buy into 100 PA for a 30-year-old journeyman, Alex Jackson isn't very good. My hope is that while they were late to come to this conclusion, the Twins simply ended up realizing that counting on a guy like this who has NO options was a poor decision in the first place, and that Jackson is highly unlikely to make the team out of spring training.
  3. Well that's perfect then. You sign two +2M plus players, and then 18 of these. Instead of five 500K players and 15 of these. Honestly, I think this validates my argument. If it's truly dart throws, throw at a couple big prizes since these 10K to 150K targets are paying off as much as the 500K targets.
  4. I don't think they've given out a contract like that since Wander Javier? And that was back when Terry Ryan was in charge. And I'm pretty sure the Twins have yet to see one of their international signings under Derek Falvey reach the majors. So I might argue that it's time for a different approach. Even if it's just once.
  5. Well so far I count the A's, Reds, Royals, Giants, Rays, Tigers, Angels and Cardinals among teams that gave out +2M contracts. And then if you want to go by prospect ranking, here's the top 20: Any list that has the Pirates on it twice can't have any relevance to competitiveness.
  6. I don't buy the quantity over quality argument. We can even set aside the notion that across all sports, winning teams tend to "go for it" while prudent half-measures and hedging your bets tend to be the hallmark of mediocre franchises. The real problem with this argument is that even if the Twins signed one or two of the top international prospects, they STILL could have signed 20 players in all. Instead of signing five guys in the 500K to 1.3M range, you sign one or two of the top players and then sign a bunch of 20K to 100K players. If it's truly all about quantity, that approach should still fit the bill. But I'd guess the real reason the Twins aren't getting the top guys is because other organizations were faster to recognize them as top players a couple years ago. If the Twins identified, vetted, nurtured and built a relationship with a 15-year-old who two years later ended up being the top rated prospect, they wouldn't walk away from him, they'd crow about it and make sure Aaron Gleeman and Dan Hayes wrote articles about him.
  7. Owners have to have their arms twisted to commit to 28-year-old experienced MLB players two years out, there is zero chance any deal offered two years ago to a 14, 15 or 16-year-old is anything more than a preliminary suggestion.
  8. I only know about 95% of the words you guys just said, but I'll ask my 15-year-old about this. He has an X-Box of some variety, the newest I think. And a switch. The Playstation has to be at least two decades old though. But there has been much talk about what will be needed when GTA 6 comes out. Seems like the last one came out when I was still age appropriate to enjoy all the murder and destruction. It feels like a guy in his late mid 40's shouldn't enjoy that stuff now, but I'm really excited to run over a bunch of people on the sidewalk and blow up police cars just to find out.
  9. Yeah, I would have replaced the GM too. Outside of the Diggs trade and drafting James Cook, they don't seem to acquire anyone who's better than average. But whether they have complete input or they are just good at working with what they've got, the recent DC's who have had success becaming HC's did so because of that side of the ball. Vrabel, Ryans and MacDonald have put together top tier defenses in a short amount of time. McDermott has had way more time and never came close to that level. The Bills D seems more like Todd Bowles and Raheem Morris caliber, and if the Bills didn't have Allen, TB and ATL level of success would likely be their ceiling.
  10. Yeah, seems crazy from a national perspective, but I'm guessing Bills fans are happy about it. Outside of having the best QB on the planet, what is that team's identity? McDermott is a defensive head coach, yet that team has never been more than an average defense. They have a QB who can do it all, but they've never had more than one meaningful pass catcher per season, and many times not even one meaningful pass catcher. If they had an average QB instead of Allen, they're probably drafting in the top ten every year.
  11. I'm not sure who's going to win the Super Bowl, but I am sure the champion will be worst team since the 2018 Eagles.
  12. Based on how things go with Stefanski and the QBs he's giving, Penix will have the leg amputated before camp opens. Though, I don't think Penix can ever be better than borderline average anyway.
  13. Yeah, go Hawks. Darnold reaaaaaly needs to win that game. Everyone turned the page on him since the poor end of last year’s season with the Vikings. Oblique injury or not, I think the national narrative is going to flip again real quick if he struggles and they lose. Oh right, and most obviously, go Bills. Payton can get run over by a cement mixer on the way to the stadium too.
  14. Rockies might not be the best example, and of course MLB wants expansion teams because it will increase overall profit. But after the novelty of the new teams wear off, it’s going to exasperate the competitive imbalance, which will eventually doom the league. These owners have put profit over the best interests of the league, the fans and the entire sport for decades. This is another example.
  15. It appears they have interviewed eight people already and have three pending who are still in the playoffs. I think if he was a candidate there, they would interviewed him by now.
  16. A 0.8M contract for Jackson might make everyone pass. He has no options, I can't imagine any team wants to promise a 26-man roster spot to him. I mean, other than the Twins obviously, who are hopefully realizing now what a dumb idea that was.
  17. Caratini only caught 50 games last year, he doesn't look to be a starting catcher in this league. so I don't think he's a Jeffers replacement. And Alex Jackson never had any business being guaranteed a MLB roster spot, which he would have been had the team not gotten another catcher. I think this either means Jackson has an uphill battle to make the team (good) or the Twins are considering Catarini as a regular DH (bad, very very bad)
  18. Don't make me retract my original post. I get the reasoning, but I don't think you do the free agent and then the trade in that order. I mean, at least smart clubs don't telegraph such moves. So, yeah, could happen.
  19. He's not a black hole in the lineup, I'm surprised by this. I guess they were less confident in Alex Jackson than previously indicated? Fine by me. As long as they don't carry 3 catchers on the 26-man.
  20. Yeah, Killebrew really only played a season and a half fewer innings at 3B than 1B in his career. A lot of time in LF too. Even though Gaetti and Mack were favorites during my era, I think we can improve the offense pretty significantly. And regarding Mack and his short peak, I think Allison's short peak was even more impressive. He probably should have been the MVP in 1963.
  21. Maybe Moore goes higher, but to me he looks like Michael Penix with lesser passing stats. I think a Penix still has a shot at going #2 this year. But next year, besides Manning, I think people are going to give Julien Sayin Drake Maye comps, Jordan Maiava Cam Newton comps and LaNorris Sellers Jalen Hurts comps. Then watch out for Sam Leavitt getting the Josh Allen comps. And yeah, I see what I did there but that seems to be how the hype dealers try to sell it. Now I'm fully aware those are all crazy, but those other players all have more exciting and explosive physical skills and teams are going to get really turned on. Odds are some of those guys will fall on their face next year but odds are QBs we haven't even thought of will rise. I think after the dust has settled and the draft is ready to roll in 2027, Moore is going to be seen as a higher floor but low ceiling QB and in years where there are three, four or even five QBs going in the first round, those guys tend to go in the back of that group. Now playing Devil's Advocate, first round QBs who slide, quite often find themselves on better teams drafting in the second half of the draft. They don't get paid nearly as much though on that rookie contract.
  22. But I think Lamar changed the identity, I think the offense stayed the same. Baltimore ran the fewest sets in 11 personnel last year; only 30% of the time. The next closest team was Pittsburgh at 38%. They were running 13, 21 and 22 personnel constantly. They almost always were in two TE or two RB, or two TE AND two RB sets. Baltimore hasn't had a meaningful 2nd wide receiver in decades, both under Jackson and Flacco. Plenty of years they didn't even have a meaningful WR 1. So when you have all these TEs and RBs and only one or two WRs on the field, the other team is going to stuff the box. Meanwhile the Ravens had the best running QB of all time. If they had spread it out and forced the other teams to open up the box and put their smaller and worse tackling DBs out there, Jackson would have put up even more impressive running numbers. And obviously, his passing numbers would have been better too considering WR are typically better after the catch than even a good TE like Mark Andrews. I really think Harbaugh put a damper on the best years of Jackson because he wanted to play football the way Harbaugh liked to play football.
  23. Seems to me this just indicates that the expansion teams should be in LA and NY. The profits from their market share is more than they can possible even spend. I'm sure the Dodgers, Yankees and Mets will gladly share their fans. I'd include the Angels, but I've never heard of such a thing as an Angel fan. Yet, there they are, still in the top half of the league in spending despite not having a winning record in a decade.
  24. *****Moderator Note***** This article has zero relevance to anything political, please get back on topic. As to the topic of if an occupied city can host MLB games, that may be a valid discussion, but elsewhere, and there will be zero tolerance for straying outside of that very narrow lane.
