  1. Yeah, not dissimilar to the Johan Santana trade. Unlike the Carew situation I don't think there was any animosity with Santana, but like Carew, it was about fair compensation. Santana made it clear he wanted out because Terry Ryan was too wishy-washy to extend the star players long term.
  2. Seattle has been linked to both Snell and Yamamoto, Where have you seen they have a constrained payroll?
  3. Which isn't good enough to win a World Series. And everything can be fixed. You can't be afraid of change and be a good GM in professional sports.
  4. At that time, the Twins might have been able to get Mahle for Miranda straight up. Though, there were reports that Carlos Correa personally took it upon himself to tell the front office they dare not trade Miranda. Might have had a Correa problem had they done so. And who knows, this time next year Miranda could be back crushing it while the league has figured out Steer.
  5. My dad didn't even know how to tell me this one happened. My cousin broke the news to me instead and I was crushed and sobbed uncontrollably. Worst 30th birthday ever.
  6. Yeah, that's the one that came to my mind first. This one is bad, and could end up being worse, but considering the Twins gave up on Gomez before he ever became useful puts the Santana trade at the top for me.
  7. Yeah, and it's an easier blow to absorb when you have young guys like Kirilloff, Lee, Miranda, Martin and Severino who are being crunched and looking to make their own impact at the MLB level. I think we're past the point where the team needs to fall back on Ryan LaMarre and Rob Refsnyder to fill in for injured guys.
  8. I don't want a rental pitcher like Burnes. Still, considering this offer didn't turn my stomach, I wouldn't say no if multi-year pitchers aren't available. It is two of the Twins most well regarded pitching prospects, but these two have serious warts. Prielipp with his injury history and Festa with his questionable control. I wouldn't just give Festa away, but my suspicions are aroused.
  9. I think Glasnow's deal makes Castillo's deal look really, really good. Not only is Castillo better, but he's missed seven starts in his career. Glasnow misses 10-20 starts every single season. If all parties are willing, I'd take Castillo in a heartbeat. Is Castillo willing though? Seattle is pretty attractive to a lot of players. What would he require to waive his no trade clause.
  10. Yeah, I'd go with Hoskins or Turner first, but Garver at 1B wouldn't be the worst idea. While I don't like the nostalgia aspect of the 'reunion' scenarios, I do like scenarios involving signing .850 OPS hitters.
  11. I get local adds during a Monday Night Football game between a New York team and LA team, I don't think local targeted advertising is an issue with the streaming giants.
  12. I think the packages are backwards. Two OF in option one and two IF in option three. Probably need to mix and match those. As it were, I'd do #1 in a heart beat. The four young Seattle pitchers I like in order are Kirby, Woo, Gilbert, Miller.
  13. I don't want any of the left over back of the rotation free agent arms. Free agent money needs to be spend on bats.
  14. Yeah, I want the strikeouts to decrease, but I want them to reduce them methodically. Mostly with a couple of roster changes, and the biggest culprits to get a re-evaluation, but certainly not on a whim and presumption that it will work. Some seem to think the best way is to blow up every hitters approach at the plate. Which would be akin to starting over from scratch. Still waiting for Joe Mauer to swing at the first pitch. Now let's tell the 13 batters on the current team to go ahead and change on the fly what they've been taught to do. I mean, surely all you need to do to correct years of training is a couple weeks facing AA pitchers in Ft. Myers.
  15. Nobody said that it was going to be at the current figure. It was just expected to be less than last year. And again, that's still with Kepler and Polanco's contracts, which the Twins beat continues to say are being moved.
  16. Gray, sure, I see the draw. But I want younger and cheaper pitchers and use any free agent money on bats. Maeda, no. Paddock is already replacing him. We need a better pitcher than he. I'm not a fan of the 'putting the band back together' approach. Maybe spend money and go that route if the team wins is all, otherwise, keep bringing in new blood.
  17. I don't think anyone has said that. At best people have said a strikeout is better than a double play, but that's pretty obvious. What the Twins are doing with plate appearances is on the analytical side as they are purposefully taking as many pitches as they can. Doing so does give the other batters more info on the pitcher, but mostly, it makes the other team waste pitches and cycle through pitchers more frequently than they'd like. Extra strikeouts are the side effect, not the goal. And obviously it's more than debatable if the ends justify the means.
  18. Yeah Amazon might be buying Diamond: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/amazon-diamond-sports-discussing-potential-streaming-deal.html If the Twins get screwed out of being on Amazon because their contract expired, I'm going to be heart broken. This would be a fantastic scenario.
  19. Just trying to figure out why the Vikings can't run the QB sneak and wow, there are so many obvious issues. First, Mullins already has the ball and I count AT LEAST four of the eight players in frame haven't yet moved, including the LG and LT: You'll also notice at the right side of the line that for some insane reason, Ingram and O'Neill's heads are not only visible, but are elevating: Why is this happening? The Eagles do it well because they all submarine the DL and push like they are coming out of the blocks in a track meet. This has to mean 100% that they barely practice this essential play. Timing is off, and no one is doing the right thing. However, there's no point in doing it at all when this happens. Keep an eye on Bradbury: Good lord. He basically just got pancaked. Jason Kelce is always past the line to gain, and Bradbury somehow got pushed back a yard. He can't run this play. Maybe try putting one of the OTs at center and try it; this is just embarrassing. Also, why are there multiple receivers, and spread out wide for that matter? How about more blockers instead?
  20. Framing it as it has to be a 1 for 1 deal feels pretty wrong. There's next to no chance the Marlins were looking to deal Luzardo for Pasquantino straight up. Also, BTV can say what it wants, Pasquantino is a 1B/DH with modest power; he's not that great.
  21. I don't think they're trading Jeffers. I bet Lee is very much on the table though.
  22. I'm quite certain we've seen this exact headline every offseason for the past five years.
  23. Acquiring more back of the rotation arms feels like the bug trapped in ember. This team doesn't need more of that type of pitcher, they are all stocked up.
  24. I can't imagine the Twins are actively looking to trade for guys with only one year of control. That would be extremely short sighted.
