  1. Man, that's a lot of guys getting 2B rotation. I mean, a lot of guys not named Lee. I can't wait for when Julien gets moved to 1B in June and the Twins call up Severino, Prato or Martin to play 2B instead of Lee, the pitchforks will be out! I want to see all three of those other guys though, so I'll be just fine it.
  2. Yeah, I think Meatloaf made a song about these pitchers. Not sure we want to break the trend. Petty hasn’t made it yet but even one win, one loss and one TBD is pretty good outcome.
  3. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-vikings-re-sign-johnny-mundt Phew, finally some contract action with the important players.🙄
  4. That's rough, wish them the best and hope they have lots of support.
  5. I don't see the rush or the position for him. Only spot is if the Twins push Julien to 1B, and I don't see that happening until Kirilloff gets injured. And Miranda is making more a claim to get a call up than Lee is so far in spring training.
  6. The guys they've unnecessarily held on to a couple years too long is getting quite lengthy.
  7. He's going to have to hit really, really well AND stay healthy if he's going to be a DH only player. I wouldn't be surprised if he's moved before the season starts.
  8. Teams are cutting safeties left and right, I'm starting to get the feeling that Harrison Smith is sticking around. It would be very un-Viking like to cut him late in the offseason and screw him over. They have the cap space now I suppose but they have other needs. I'd have thought Metellus would have been moved out of the nickel spot or Jay Ward would have been ready to take the job, but unless Smith is secretly planning on retiring, I'd guess he's here next year.
  9. I can only recall about four to six good free agents this team has signed this century. Certainly they can get some good ones if they do it right, but developing your own players is way more important in the NFL than any of the other sports.
  10. Another thing to think about is that had McCarthy stayed in school, he'd likely be the top QB prospect in next years draft at this moment. As it is, Quinn Ewers, Sheduer Sanders, Cam Ward and Riley Leonard all could have come out this year but didn't. I do like Ewers, but next year's QB class may all be closer to Nix and Penix than they are to the top group this year. But I'm not trading JJ. Other teams have been able to move up without giving up a star player, the Vikings should be able to too.
  11. Yeah, I doubt KC franchises him unless they think they can get a 1st, or an early 2nd at worst.
  12. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2024/03/05/nfl-free-agency-rumors-saquon-barkley/72859023007/ This piece says the Vikings are one of several teams that have reached out about trading for L'Jarius Sneed. I mean, yeah, he's good, but a rebuilding team like the Vikings are in no place to give away draft capital for a cornerback. And corner backs are the RBs of the defensive side of the ball; all but the HOF type almost always peak during their rookie contracts.
  13. I'm really hopeful the reason for the lackluster first two drafts was because they were trying to patch instead of build. Because these are the three areas you build with right? And they barely touched those spots in the two drafts. Hopefully if they take a step back and say, OK, now we need to concentrate on a long term vision, they will hammer OL, defensive front seven and QB spots. And hopefully if they go in knowing they need the long term vision, they'll let the draft picks play. And if they can get one of the top three QBs but have to sacrifice draft capital, I'm still game. It's obviously the position that can right the ship the quickest.
  14. If they lose them all, I don't want any patchwork big money free agents. Target players that should be good for another 3-4 years. No Chris Jones or Tyron Smith or Saquon Barkley in other words.
  15. I don't think it's the same result. Should be really bad with hope for the future, or have an outside shot of being good right away if they nail a rookie QB who's NFL ready. Signing a Russell Wilson or Baker Mayfield probably dooms to to mediocrity.
  16. I didn't care much for that draft class at the time. Petty looks like he's going to be sitting on top prospect lists until he is promoted and CES's big strikeout issues, haven't been an issue for the Reds yet. But Hajjar and Povich ruined it for me. Two Big Ten pitchers in Rounds 2 and 3? With all apologies to local guy Max Meyer, who was the last good Big Ten starting pitcher in the majors? 44-year-old Rich Hill? Jim Abbot?
  17. I don’t see the issue here. You have four infield spots and a DH. Lewis, Correa, Julien, Kirilloff and Lee could rotate through all of them. And the Twins will give them all every 4th or 5th day off anyway, so you wouldn’t typically even need the DH spot for the rotation. As for Martin specifically, we’ll see above but now add in the outfielder spots too.
  18. Probably had to be done prior to spring training. Trading a franchise staple a few weeks after the band got back together when everyone had warm fuzzy thoughts about the upcoming season is probably a bit of a clubhouse soul sucker. In that regard, the Mariners had the upper hand.
  19. Looks like the 1.2M I was looking at was last years salary, but Akers is a restricted free agent, so the Vikings can bring him back should they choose. Id choose others over him, but I guess he wouldn’t be at the complete bottom of my list.
  20. You don't have to let those rookies go, you can send them back to St. Paul.
  21. I completely agree and I really hate that philosophy. However, the leash does seem to be equivalent to the salary paid, which in this case is fairly minimal. Matt Shoemaker and his 2M salary was the only guy on a MLB contract that I recall being released. I'm confident I won't like the leash DeSclafani gets, but I'd bet it's less than the other new guys they paid more. And really a pitcher who's giving up 5+ runs an outing stands out as a failure way more than someone who's not hitting but being shrouded by eight other batters. Good lord, did I just suggest 4M was minimal. Sometimes I hate this world.
  22. Joey Gallo remained on the team for the entirety of the 2023 season. So did Javier Vazquez. What playing time did they earn? Bundy, Archer, Simmons, Marwin Gonzalez, Logan Morrison. Never got released. The only one who did was Matt Shoemaker who was released after being on the 60 day IL first. Like it or not (hard 'not' for me) if they're paying a veteran a MLB salary and the veteran doesn't have the option to go to St. Paul, that veteran doesn't have to earn a dang thing.
  23. Well it was either him or a rookie at this point and the rookie can be stashed. Obviously they 'value' everyone they pay a salary to, but I'm not sure that they value him with any significance. Even with less depth than the offensive side, I'd bet DeSclafani has a shorter leash than Santana and Margot.
  24. I didn't hear about the ownership one. As for the medicals, I thought he said he wouldn't do that stuff at the combine but would provide them in sit downs with individual teams. Likely because then if/when something gets leaked, he'd have a short list of culprits. Either way, I can't recall a non-injured QB who ever had medicals that made teams run away screaming so I don't care about that. As far as ownership goes, I don't see the Vikings being the team to be the first to do that. Or first to do anything actually, we're followers, not trailblazers here in Minnesota. As long as having ownership wouldn't inhibit the team from trading or releasing him, I couldn't care less if he had a stake.
  25. I'm not sure I have much hope for meaningful production from DeSclafani even if healthy, but his 4M is half what they paid J.A. Happ so if we set the bar there, he should be able to clear that blindfolded and on roller skates.
