  1. To be fair, Carlos Santana was both a plus defender AND played 150 games this year with 146 of those games as the starting 1B. The fact that Miranda made 12 starts seems like a good sign to me actually. No one other than Kirilloff started a game at 1B and Kirilloff was supposed to be Santana's left handed compliment. Once Kirilloff became unusable, Miranda was hands down their back up 1B and they didn't even bother looking for another option. And in 2023 Miranda didn't beat out Solano for playing time because his bat wasn't good enough to play in the majors.
  2. Right, but the lack of competition is pretty typical for a backup catcher, whether he's paid 10M or 1M. And really, in the years that they aren't rostering a Vazquez of Jason Castro in addition to their internal option, they usually stash a veteran in AAA. I'm Ok rolling with Camargo, but I suspect most aren't, including the front office. I'd just grab a Tucker Barnhart or Yan Gomes knowing that whether it's an OPS of .400 or .600 it's not worth worrying about the degree to which they are impacting the team. You're not counting on them to help offensively in any scenario.
  3. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, mostly because my enthusiasm for next season isn't high regardless of the payroll, but if the Twins are able to move Vazquez and Paddock, I'm not sure that the savings will be re-invested back into the payroll. The Twins announced the payroll won't be going down this year BEFORE both the Rangers and Cardinals, two teams who historically spend over expectations said they are dropping payroll, and it's thought that many other teams will do the same. To me, that sounds like a green light for Joe Pohlad to renege on his previous statement and also cut back. "Well, we said it wouldn't be lower, but we didn't expect things to change so quickly. Look at what all the other teams are doing."
  4. I'd disagree, in that even if you sign a pricey backup, he's still likelier than not to hit like Vazquez. I don't think Danny Jensen's odds of being an offensive weapon are significantly higher than say Christian Bettencourt or Yan Gomes. It's the backup catcher spot, I'm more than happy going back to the Mike Redmond/Drew Butera method with the position. Spend the money elsewhere.
  5. The Dodgers don't tend to be a prospect-for-prospect kind of team. I'm thinking they'll want MLB talent, and I'm not giving them Jax. But really, top catching prospects don't tend to work out too often. I think the odds that Jeffers rebounds is higher than the odds that a AAA catcher turns into a star player.
  6. New York doing a replay assists for the face mask? Yes, it happened. One week after they said there was nothing that could be done about the Vikings face mask.
  7. I'm not as emphatic, but I like his chances. I'm not sure if a new hitting coach can iron out the team-wide epidemic of inconsistent hitting, but the roller coaster production isn't just a Julien thing. Just about all the players are doing it, which makes me think there's an underlying issue the team hasn't addressed yet.
  8. Their D still looks pretty dang good. Which makes Rodgers and the offenses ineptitude all the more fun. Gotta think the defensive players aren't happy with Rodgers.
  9. You see that once in awhile and I can't figure out what's going through the players' heads.
  10. Are you kidding me?!?!? New York will now call down and tell the refs to throw a facemask flag for the NEW YORK Jets? I wish I could quit this league. It's so corrupt.
  11. I mean, if it was up to me, I'd like to see 10 batting titles with 10 teams in 10 years. That would be a heck of a lot of fun. Although probably less fun for Arraez. Also, woof. Any list that is dominated by relievers isn't a terribly attractive list.
  12. Right, this team can't run up the middle and the other teams know it. Makes it that much harder to run to the outside and frees up the LBs to focus on taking away underneath passes and play more DBs to double team the receivers.
  13. Yes, you are. That is your entire argument. He has gotten Sam Darnold to run the offense up to Kirk Cousins level of play in what EVERYONE said should have been a step back offensively and a rebuild year, yet you won't stop complaining about it.
  14. So four coaches who've found success with HOF QBs in Mahomes, Jackson, Rodgers and Stafford, and Mike Tomlin who is a HOF coach but who Vikings fans would have wanted out of here a decade ago due to his club's inability to get out of the first round of the playoffs BECAUSE they don't fix the QB situation. Why do you continue to duck the obvious correlation between the caliber of QB on the team and the offensive success?
  15. Sad news. Clearly this is due to his inability to stay healthy. I hope those injuries don't impact his quality of life going forward.
  16. Extremely sad news. Tough break for the young man as I'd guess this is related to his inability to stay healthy.
  17. I mean if you're going to refuse to correlate the offensive production to the starting QBs the team had during those years, I don't know that there's much more to discuss here. There wasn't a person on this planet who thought Darnold was an upgrade to Cousins in his prime, which was why McCarthy was drafted. Arguing that Darnold was expected to be an improvement seems irrational.
  18. I would venture to say that anyone who has started even a single game at LT this season is a better option than Quesenberry.
  19. Well be prepared because if as implied and Twins give us nothing to talk about this off season, discussions here are going to be like Uncle John trying to fill awkward silence during Thanksgiving dinner. "So, how about that weather we're having?"
  20. I agree with your post, but the first sentence is what always gets me about these discussions. When it comes to player development, I think draft position needs to be dropped from consideration about two years into their minor league career. At that point, they need to be evaluated on production and attributes that indicate future capabilities. When it comes to prospect ranking, I think that consideration needs to be dropped after year two in the majors. Again, they should mostly be evaluated on their production and attributes that indicate future capabilities. And honestly, I think fans are better about this than front offices. And it's not a Twins thing, it's a leaguewide reluctance to cash out the initial investment. I'm long past caring about Kirilloff's draft position and prospect rankings. I'm not saying drop him for some waiver wire veteran, but I've seen enough to move on.
  21. Right, two of the Vikings lowest yardage games came when the game was over before half time. You usually don’t get yards in those kinds of games. Detroit just scored 52 points and only totaled 225 yards total.
  22. It would be close for me. Johnson has had crap QBs but I'm also not sure he was ever more than an average receiver to begin with. Odds are Hopkins is done, but quite often those HOF types get a change of scenery with a chip on their shoulder and prove everyone wrong one last time. But both went for a pick just one round a part. KC is sending a 4th, but it's a 5th if they don't make it back to the Super Bowl.
  23. I'm not surprised. Johnson hasn't done much in four years. Definitely still a usable player, but probably not in the same class as the other WRs that have been traded.
  24. I know I'm lower on Addison than some, but this seems like a trade the Vikings could have done and then stocking up on better DL/OL/Picks for Addison.
  25. Dionte Johnson and a 6th to the Ravens for a 5th. Great trade for the Ravens, that's basically nothing. Still, that's never seemed to be an offense that can support more than one wide receiver.
