  1. He's at 85 IP this year after only throwing 21 last year and 29 the year before. If he's able to continue without falling off or getting injured, it would probably be unprecedented in the modern game.
  2. Yeah, the Twins don't do long relievers. If he makes it to the majors, he's either a starter or they'll tune up the velocity and try him in the back of the bullpen.
  3. I don't follow the NBA draft like I used to so I'm a bit out of touch, but what the heck is going on here? The Wolves actually got the #8 pick this year by trading picks in 2030 and 2031? That's insane. What are the odds that the same people will even be running either team seven years from now? Why would San Antonio's GM even consider that?
  4. I'm beyond surprised by SWRs season. This organization has thrived with increasing pitcher velocity, I was pretty confident that the decline SWR showed last year was a really bad omen. I didn't write him off, but I thought he was destined for relief work. This has been a fantastic turn of events. As to Gil, he hadn't pitched more than 30 innings since 2021 and hasn't pitched a full healthy season since 2019. I'll never cheer for a young guy to get hurt, even a Yankee, but Gil is already pitching on borrowed innings this year.
  5. I prefer your option to the DeSclafani/Bundy option, but I still like the path of trading for controllable talented pitchers like Lopez, Gray, Ryan, Maeda and Odorizzi. Even with the Mahles and Paddocks included, this seems to be the highest hit rate by far.
  6. I agree, but adding payroll wasn't the way it should have been fixed. Expensive pitchers are old pitchers and outside of the HOF type, old pitchers tend to be on the downslopes of their careers. The rotation should be upgrade via trades for controllable arms like in recent years, not pricey free agents. The Pohlad's are very rippable, but not because they didn't spend money on Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery.
  7. Even if Festa only has a 5% chance of replacing Sonny Gray, it's better than Boushley and Dobnak's 0% chance.
  8. I enjoyed Henriquez's two innings more than Thielbar's and Funderburk's innings combined this year. And wow, doing a little math: Thielbar has had 24 appearances and only thrown 16 1/3 innings. That's retro LOOGY numbers. That's a lot of outs a guy isn't getting when generally required to face at least three batters in today's game.
  9. The Cubs probably have more starting pitching than required for a 70 win club. They have several interesting controllable arms the Twins might be able to match up on. Outside of Kyle Hendricks, I could be convinced to like any of them to one degree or another.
  10. Agree about the AA pitchers, something good will come out of there. I doubt Raya is a long reliever though. He's much younger than those other guys and I'm sure they're handling him with kid gloves still. But mostly, he's not a long reliever, either he'll start or he'll go the Duran/Jax route. His control is the issue at the moment, if he can't figure that out, he's not going multiple innings out of the pen.
  11. I'm the same as this past offseason; I'm only interested in getting a Sonny Gray replacement to try to actually contend for a championship, I don't care about filling out the rotation just to chase another early exit playoff berth. I don't see any of those pitchers putting the Twins over the top. In past years I would have loved to have the underrated Luis Severino, but I'd need to be talked into him now. Why can't he strike anyone out any more? Zero interest in the super high contact Jose Quintana and I trust Sean Manaea about the same as I trust my dog not to bark at the Amazon delivery guy.
  12. Good for the Royal fans that this team is competitive again, but I don't see them doing anything impactful. They made a lot of offseason moves that raised some eyebrows, but the guys they got were all pretty 'meh'. Not to say some haven't played better than expected (Seth Lugo), but I don't think they'll target needle movers. More Michael Wachas and Chris Strattons may get them to the playoffs, but it won't win them anything meaningful. Though I suppose if they build enough excitement it's possible they'll recall the Dayton Moore era and put it all on the line.
  13. Kind of odd that he is the one pitcher they are letting go deep into games. Control aside, I thought with his slight frame and mostly two-pitch mix he might be fast tracked to the bullpen. It would be great if that curveball is actually a useful pitch for him and he can remain a starter.
  14. I'll let others lay out the facts about the salary impossibilities. So instead I'll just point out that Justin Verlander needed his arm twisted, and only accepted at literally the last minute to be traded from an abysmal Detroit team to Houston, who was head and shoulders the best team in the league in 2017. Even if there isn't a no-trade clause (without looking, I bet there is), I'd bet he'd be resistant to being traded. I also doubt Houston sells being only 5.5 games back.
  15. I can't see the White Sox selling low on him and I can't see the Twins taking on 20M/year salaries for him the next two years.
  16. Farmer and Margot have both started the last two games since Kepler went down. If Kepler comes back tomorrow there's probably only room for one optionable player to play every day, and looks like Martin is getting that gig now. If Kepler or someone else hits the IL, call Lee up. I'll take any excuse to get rid of these needlessly rostered underwhelming vets. Get the dead weight off the roster and start cycling through the young guys, they likely won't be worse but even if they are, Farmer and Margot aren't adding anything to this club anyway so the roster flexibility received from cutting bait with them is worth way more.
  17. They don't need him playing better than Castro, they need him playing better than Farmer. Castro's best trait is playing all over the field.
  18. I always dislike the suburban stadiums. Put them where there are other things to do. Who wants to go to strip mall restaurants and stay in hotels 45 minutes from where all the other attractions of the city are? Also, why are the Bears owners both begging for tax payer money AND saying that Chicago is the top world class city in the country? The LA and NY (New Jersey actually) teams paid for their own stadiums outside of infrastructure costs. If the Bears want to claim that Chicago is America's prime destination, then they need to act like LA and NY and foot 100% of the bill
  19. Probably 'old' is as in last year. But I agree, the team hasn't gotten enough credit for significantly addressing a big problem area from last season. My only complaint would be that Wallner or Julien perhaps could have been put to better use in a high profile trade in the offseason instead of struggling, getting demoted and losing value.
  20. I'm not sure that this is always true, but the perception is absolutely a problem. An umpire getting it wrong can and does lead to wild speculation regarding the intent. Does he hate my team? Does he hate the player? Is he on the take? Likely none of that is true, but the possibility damages the game. Unfortunately, it appears computer errors still occur, but they are less frequent and it's understood to just be a mathematical mistake. Unless it's Skynet.
  21. That moment with Frank Robinson tearfully explaining why he pulled LeCroy was heartbreaking.
  22. I do feel that WAR is overrated, but I also feel Arraez is overrated, so me and WAR are in agreement here. Arraez is a really good hitter, but you have to do more than just stand on first base to be an elite player. As for Correa, he's one of only two Twins hitters who should never come off the field so based on his production, I'm not sure why anyone would complain about him other than the team's accountant.
  23. ***Moderator Note** The only post I see that has 'triggered' anyone is yours, right here, huffy about getting responses other than the one you wanted. Any more of this condescending non-sense and this baited thread which is starting to appear to be singularly aimed to stir up contempt and arguments will be locked.
  24. Well this site is for Twins fans, so it's quite possible we have some followers. With how close to the vest the Twins front office is about information however, I'd be more than confident that creating posts relevant to the Twins is against company policy though, so anyone doing so would have to think it's worth risking their job simply to battle an internet troll. But really, how many unconditionally positive Twins posters are actually on this board? You could probably count them on one hand. I think the reality is that the posters who are vehemently negative about the team/front office/ownership lack the perception that MOST of our posters are somewhere on the scale in between. The converse is true with the few 'always sunny' fans. The vast majority of our posters find many things in which they are complementary of the team, but at the same time find many things they are willing to critique about the team. It seems to me that feeling one has to like everything or dislike everything about a team, person or topic is the biggest reason why discourse is failing in our society.
