Santana and Berrios are the only locks for next year. I do understand the age factor but I also think there is a coaching aspect to Santana that is being overlooked. May should not in any way factor into the signing of a starter this offseason, nor should Mejia or Gibby. We absolutely need someone of the caliber of Santana/Berrios to make a top 3. Let the rest of the contenders play out and go from there. With a top 3 of Santana, Berrios and FA or trade then see where we are at come deadline time and pick up a guy like the Astros did this year if needed.

Article: Buxton and Dozier Gold Glove Finalists
Bill Brown69 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Dozier makes enough diving plays to pass the casual eye test. I can easily see how he was included just from highlight reel footage. Mauer didn't make a lot of noise on the highlight reel but when you watch the games you realize that you might be watching the steadiest 1B in the game over the last 15 years. Nobody had any thought about "do I throw it" if it was a maybe play and it might be in the dirt. The infielders were able to just play and throw it when they got to it because the "Joe Wall" was there to make sure it wasn't a wreck.- 35 replies

Article: Mauer Snubbed In Gold Glove Voting
Bill Brown69 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really wanted Mauer to get the attention he deserved but it is nothing new for a no brainer candidate to not win. I have stated before IF Mauer would have transitioned to first when he was 20something he would be regarded as the best defensive 1B of all time. If Buxton can play healthy another 10 years he will be regarded as the best CF of all time. Enjoy the ride guys, because if this team stays together for another 2-3 years it may well be the the best defensive team of all time.- 51 replies

Article: Knock. Knock. Silence.
Bill Brown69 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I want at least 4 of this core to be Twins for 10 years. That is why the FO gets paid. Make the right calls on the right players and get it done. All have concerns, yes it is a risk, but less of a risk IMHO than losing the fans by letting them all walk. But yes, I said 10 years. So we are talking 8 year contracts for at least a couple. Get 1-2 done this offseason and at least 1 per year for the next 2. -
Article: The Falvey And Levine Machine
Bill Brown69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The July 30th Twins team is the reason every Tom,Dick and Harry with any coin in their pocket invites me to poker games. I buy every time I see any chance and lose my a$$. Yes, I have hit a few hands, raising 3 kings up when I needed a card for a straight flush comes to mind but every one of you would love for me to sit at your game. -
Simple, take 6 of the next 8 for 80 wins, sweep the Yanks, 83 wins, and then go 5-5 for 88 wins. Don't know about anyone else but I LOVE the fact that we are most likely to play the Yanks in the playoffs(if we make it) Get that monkey off my back and beat down to the tune of a big time blowout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Article: Brian Dozier Is Taking The Lead
Bill Brown69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How about we start talking about building a real winning team, not just a team with a 80-100 mil salary? I do think that Carl was a tightwad but I also think Jim is a bit more of fan and is willing to take a little less % to field a team that can win, not Detroit wild spending but reasonable and mostly in line with what was expected when the new ballpark opened. -
Article: Byron Buxton: From Broken To Booming
Bill Brown69 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And the defense...oh, my the defense. Absolutely spectacular. here's the best part: it can still get better: with more experience, he's going to get better at making his break on the ball, taking the best possible route, honing his arm and decision-making. This is some of the finest CF play we've ever had in MN, and we've had a lot of really terrific CF D over the years. I'm not ready to call him the best ever defensively in a Twins uniform...yet. but that's the sort of thing we're talking about. Best in the game, potentially one of the best all-time Right now I would put him a 3 man argument over the best defensive CF ever to wear a Twins uniform and IF HE STAYS HEALTHY over a 12+ year career I have no doubt that he will be regarded as #1 defensively of all time. Edit to add on. Buck is right now 91st on the career active list for Defensive war, in 3 partial years!!!!!!!!! -

Then tempt him with a 10 year expensive contract. While you are at it tempt Kepler, Rosario, Polonco, Sano and Berrios with long term contracts just to see who would bite. I understand that it is highly doubtful all sign but get 3 over the next 2 years locked up. -
Article: Miguel Sano And Negativity Bias
Bill Brown69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This could well be a Minnesota thing. Hrbek after shock! The FO will have to evaluate all of his issues along with every other player of our current "core" and put forth contracts accordingly. For me the strikeouts are the glaring number but the walks give you pause to think what could happen if he REALLY recognized the strike zone. That would put him in rarified air. -
This is the deal, if you can bunt, slap it to right, pull it hard and hit homers then there is no way to defend that. Use the whole field, including that 30 feet in front of home plate and the weapon that is Byron Buxton's potential is something we have never seen. Sit back and enjoy the ride because this is going to be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Article: Gold Glove Is Mauer Or Miss
Bill Brown69 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Mauer would have moved to first 10 years ago he would be in the discussion with Keith Hernandez and a couple others as the greatest defensive first baseman of all time. -
Santana mentoring both Berrios and Mejia is why I did not want him traded. I hope he pitches here for 2 more years regardless of cost just for that reason. He has changed a lot since he came into the majors.

Article: Can The Twins Win With Dozier And Mauer?
Bill Brown69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes they can, but it is time to quit making the lineup based on their preferences and give them the rest of this season to get used to new roles. This lineup has one big bopper and then a bunch of walks with a black hole when it comes to runners on base. Buxton- see if he can do it for next year. Kepler- Left handed, takes a few pitches. Let Buck steal if he is on and if he isn't get yourself to 2nd. Sano- our big masher Mauer- pitch around Sano and you might walk Mauer also. Dozier- if he can't get used to it then,,,,,,,,,,, Rosario Grossman Castro- hopefully he doesn't slow up Buxton too often Polanco I would like to see them give that lineup 30 games to see what happens. In the offseason send Grossman to Tom Kelly to learn 1st base and get a 'real" DH to bat in the middle. -
If he gets to 20 wins can we complain about him getting hosed if he doesn't get the Cy Young if Chris Sale wins it with a mere 16 wins? I hope Ervin makes it a little tough on the voters by pitching 2 more complete games and getting the 20 wins.

Article: Twins Need Sagging Bats To Rev It Up
Bill Brown69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I said at the start of the year Mauer should bat behind Sano. Pitch around Sano with even 1 on and then Mauer draws a walk and bases loaded. We just need THAT guy behind Mauer!!!! -
Article: Twins Trade Pieces Not That Valuable
Bill Brown69 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gordon/Polanco as starting middle infielders might be punting on 2018. There is no logjam until Gordon proves it in meaningful games against top competition. If that were to happen the Escobar might be the casualty. I do hope Gordon gets a Sept callup and between that and Spring Training then a better decision can be made.- 57 replies

I think the new FO did a fine job. Basically traded away 1 prospect and returned 3.- 57 replies

I think spy cake hit the nail on the head. My guess is the whole deal hinged/hinges on an extension being signed.
