  1. I would argue that it is time to sign an outfielder(or all 3) to a 10 year contract. Bring them all in together and put something fair and reasonable in front of all 3.
  2. Al Worthington, Cesar Tovar are the only 2 to wonder about yet. Justin Morneau, Johan Santana and Glen Perkins will get their due down the road.
  3. Santana mentoring both Berrios and Mejia is why I did not want him traded. I hope he pitches here for 2 more years regardless of cost just for that reason. He has changed a lot since he came into the majors.
  4. I think Sano needs a few days off. Let EE play 3rd when Sano sits and let Garver get 5 games a week. 3 at DH, 1 at first and 1 at catcher.
  5. With his speed 1/2 of his singles can become doubles. The other thing to think about is he is in scoring position at first, a long single will score him from first several times over the course of a year.
  6. Yes they can, but it is time to quit making the lineup based on their preferences and give them the rest of this season to get used to new roles. This lineup has one big bopper and then a bunch of walks with a black hole when it comes to runners on base. Buxton- see if he can do it for next year. Kepler- Left handed, takes a few pitches. Let Buck steal if he is on and if he isn't get yourself to 2nd. Sano- our big masher Mauer- pitch around Sano and you might walk Mauer also. Dozier- if he can't get used to it then,,,,,,,,,,, Rosario Grossman Castro- hopefully he doesn't slow up Buxton too often Polanco I would like to see them give that lineup 30 games to see what happens. In the offseason send Grossman to Tom Kelly to learn 1st base and get a 'real" DH to bat in the middle.
  7. If he gets to 20 wins can we complain about him getting hosed if he doesn't get the Cy Young if Chris Sale wins it with a mere 16 wins? I hope Ervin makes it a little tough on the voters by pitching 2 more complete games and getting the 20 wins.
  8. I said at the start of the year Mauer should bat behind Sano. Pitch around Sano with even 1 on and then Mauer draws a walk and bases loaded. We just need THAT guy behind Mauer!!!!
  9. Gordon/Polanco as starting middle infielders might be punting on 2018. There is no logjam until Gordon proves it in meaningful games against top competition. If that were to happen the Escobar might be the casualty. I do hope Gordon gets a Sept callup and between that and Spring Training then a better decision can be made.
  10. I think the new FO did a fine job. Basically traded away 1 prospect and returned 3.
  11. I stated in a different thread that trading Santana now would mean that not 1 position player would listen to any long term offers this winter. IMHO this winter is the time to identify which one is,,,, Part of the long term plan Will continue to improve Will be a "ticket seller" Will accept a reasonable/fair offer that keeps them here for at least 2 years of free agency but prefer 4. Falvey/Levine make a very good wage. Their job is to identify 1 if not 2-3 of our young core that are going to be top notch players for a long time and sign them. I for one am sick of the revolving door and excuses about risk/money etc. Sign the right guys dammit and keep them here long enough to discuss their HOF credentials!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. The thing is if out of those 7 names we get 1 Brad Radke career, 1 Scott Baker career and 1 Boof Bonser career it would be a major win. As with all systems and all prospects more will flame out or be at best replacement level than be solid major leaguers for winning teams. It will all sort itself out but I still hope they keep Santana. Next year Santana Berrios Mid level FA Mejia Best of whoever until June when May is ready. That could be a legit July/August/Sept rotation. If the FA was better than mid level then great.
  13. NOBODY that is contending at the deadline wants to saddle themselves on having to rely on anybody but Santana to win themselves a playoff game! How about we all take a step back and realize that trades can happen anytime for 9 months of every year and not only at the deadline. In Nov-Feb EVERY team is in play, not just those in contention. OUR thought of years of control/cost effectiveness is actually a detriment to some other teams who are "going for it" with the idea of a fire sale if it doesn't work.
  14. I am planning on Buxton starting at CF for the Twins until 2025 at least. My plans may change but I will have the hope until it is forced on me.
  15. Most of the time a team friends/ years of control contract is easier to move in the offseason because then every team is interested instead of just the contenders. Pitching however always seems to sell though. I for one would keep Santana unless I got an offer I couldn't refuse. That offer would have to be multiple pitchers with some upside because that is our most glaring need.
  16. My bet is that it hinged on an extension being signed and this is the easy way for both sides to save face and come up with a plausible excuse for the fan base.
  17. I think spy cake hit the nail on the head. My guess is the whole deal hinged/hinges on an extension being signed.
  18. It has been widely reported about the Twins clubhouse being upset 2 years ago when they got very little help. Evidently Tori was the one to keep them together. I am not sure who if anyone would do that this year. IMHO stand pat or sell ruins the chances of signing any of these young guys to a long term extension.
  19. I have contemplated deleting this site from my favorites multiple times because of the negativity. 162 games x 3hours per game = 486 hours a year of either enjoyment of a team that might win or dread of a team that will probably lose. 4 World series wins only add up to maybe 16 hours of enjoyment and even if you add 100 hours of pure euphoria after you have less satisfaction than the 9 years winning record out of 10.(01-10) but many if not most posters on here would rather bash somebody/anybody than remember how much fun it was to watch/listen during those 10 years. No, there was not much postseason success but it was 486 hours of fun x 10 years. Everyone has their version of the magic elixir that would have put us over the top but remember the Braves had Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz for 10 years and only won 1. Trust me the WS euphoria wears off real quick when you have to put up with 1993-2000. They were a hell of a lot more painful than the last 6 years.
  20. I choose to see the positive. Even though Kepler fails early he had 2 hits later, Sano with 2 hard hits, Dozier nearly had a homer. Our core hitters are not afraid of the Yankees like back in the day. I think it would be a very entertaining series if somehow we could meet them in the postseason, even though I doubt either team will make it.
  21. So who should we have pulled? Granite our prospect that has been clamored for or our starting catcher? BTW 12 LOB with Rosario leaving 7.
  22. Paul O'Neil is a very good comp. I said Ellis Burks in that thread. Either one would be great. I do still like a guy like Kepler in the #2 hole but we still need our version of Larry Walker to be our #3 hitter with Sano as cleanup. YES, I AM GREEDY!!!!
  23. It was also a judgement call for Dozier on where to slide. Feet first straight into the plate will make catchers stop doing that.
  24. Max looking like a doubles machine is why I think long term he is a perfect #2 hitter. 1/3 of the time they are at the plate with nobody on and 1 out. In that situation your job is to get into scoring position. Being left handed also shield the catcher a bit on attempted steals by the leadoff guy. Yes, I agree with Trevor, give him a 10 year contract!!
  25. I get your use of the word maybe but I would plunk down a $100 on Max making 2 all star teams if I had 2-1 odds. I never bought in on Kepler until he came up to the Twins and then I became a fan. If he stays healthy I could see him have 750 xbh and I think he will be a fringe gold glove candidate. I would not bet on him winning one but he might be in the discussion as the best fielding corner outfielder a few years.
