  1. Think back to Kepler last August and that is Polanco right now. Kepler come out of it and so will Polanco. Mejia is averaging 5 IP per start, not bad for a rookie. He easily could be a solid starter for years but it will be a few years before he will be classified as an innings eater. Duffey is what he has been his whole career. Steady is not how you would define him. Rosario is maturing some at the plate. Frustratingly slow for me, I would want a rookie to have at least as much discipline as he does but he has already broke his career high for unintentional walks by 4. His D seems to have hit a plateau though. For me it is just sit back and enjoy the fact that when you turn on a game it is not with dread.
  2. Polanco is going through a slump/adjustment period much the same as Kepler did last summer/fall. I am not worried about his long term production. Defensively he has work to do, but he was pretty good early so I think with maturity he could stick at short, although 2nd might be a better fit for him. I for one am glad that we didn't give up on Kepler last year and I hope they don't give up on Polanco yet.
  3. With Vargas down it really would have made sense to have Grossman working with a 1B mitt a couple months ago.
  4. That is what my pre-season prediction was and I am sticking to it! July is the toughest part of the schedule so we will probably take a few lumps and be lucky to end it with a .500 record but then it gets easier. I predict 80-80 with 2 to go and we win both.
  5. I asked for Felix to have a good enough start to earn a promotion to AAA. Not sure where he went but IMHO he should be due for said promotion. Not that I am saying I want him pitching at Target Field anytime soon, but I want him and at least 2 more just like him to start next year in Rochester so that when the injuries start we have legit candidates there next year.
  6. While we know with almost certainty that this is a temp move, lets hope he does well enough that his send down is to Rochester. With the long line of AAAA and castoff starters we have run out there this year it would be great to start the year with a healthy Jorge, Gonsalves and Romero in Rochester next year.
  7. There was some guy named Maddux that had that same thing going. I think he turned out OK.
  8. Not fair! If it weren't for jumping to conclusions and flying off the handle we would all have to start an exercise program! All in jest, I hope everyone knows
  9. I love this. Positive spin for once. Fact is we can win the World Series with the lineup we have now. Give us a bit better pitching and a couple years seasoning and,,,,,,,,,,,,,, back to back????????????
  10. we would still be waiting for to to come down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Good God! Ozzie Smith in his first 2000 PA's was under .250 BA with an OPS of .600. How do you think the Padres are feeling about moving on from him 35 YEARS LATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are only a few people blessed with the talent to be the best EVER at their position. Byron may never eclipse Willie Mayes as the best overall centerfielder ever but he has a very real chance at being the best defensive centerfielder ever.!.!.!.!.! If he can hit .230 or above he is in my lineup for the next 10+ years.
  12. The Twins will not have over 2 reps, nor should they unless they have a 12 game winning streak starting about tonight. I would not be surprised at all if Sano was the only guy. If another guy makes it great, 3 would be awesome in an awkward way just because 3 All-Stars with a .500 team means,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, well,,,,,,,,,,,?????????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  13. Remember during spring training when a lot of people were up in arms over the "wealth" of starting pitching we had and how that would probably mean wasting a year of Berrios and Mejia in the minors? I sure wish we had another Berrios and Mejia in AAA fighting for a spot instead of having to dumpster dive to have somebody throw a few innings so the bullpen doesn't have a rash of arms falling off. Here is a toast to Trevor May making his return June 1 of next year to Target Field. Health to Ervin, Jose and Alberto along with a little growth and 1 new starter and then maybe we can talk about having a decent league average+ rotation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Just to clarify my post, There could be a number of reasons not to uproot them until now but maybe the reassignment has to do with evaluating the info that the scouts are giving? Maybe the draft? Maybe so there are 2 different reports on players? There could be several other things also.
  15. I didn't hear it as a win now mode. I heard it as a "we are going to put the people in the positions we want them because we didn't want to uproot them before now" mode
  16. With the 2 years of control after this year it could be selling now to make the future. How about this out of the box idea. 3 team deal with Dozier, Gray and a package from whatever team as the lead pieces. We get Gray, Team X gets Dozier and the A's get Package X. I am sure we would still have to throw in some pieces but maybe not the top of the farm system. That said I am not in a rush to trade Dozier and can't see it happening until we fall at least 5 games out BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  17. I am pretty sure he was talking about using 2 option years for Polonco to play in about 6 games.
  18. I said before Joe went on his tear that maybe they should give him a First baseman's glove to practice with. I still think that would add considerably to his value. It would be a lot easier to keep his bat in the lineup and keep Joe fresh.
  19. Ozzie Smith only hit over .250 once in his first 5 seasons and didn't win a gold glove until his 3rd season. Patience.
  20. If he can keep from killing himself and play 10 more years he will be in the Ozzie Smith category of undeniably the best ever defensively at his position.
  21. MLB draft is much the same as signing day to college football. I can guarantee that Tennessee went after the consensus #1 QB after Peyton Manning's freshman year. There is no such thing as an overload of talent at a position, especially pitcher, catcher and shortstop. Pitcher and catcher because of injury and if you can play short you are athletic enough to play anywhere.
  22. Earlier this morning I heard he got credit for a stolen base. Just to clarify, did the scorer change the ruling or was the report I read wrong?
  23. As a Twins fan since the late 70's I can tell you from my point of view that I would way rather have 10 straight 80+ win seasons, a chance most every year and never win the World Series than to win it (91) and then have to deal with the mid-late 90's again. I hate it when you know breaking camp that there is no way to win 80 games. The euphoria of the series win fades away pretty quickly if you spend all summer following a bad baseball team. Sure, I would listen but NO would be the answer to both Santana and Dozier. Right now they are 2 of the most popular players on the team for the average fan. I really don't think that I would want to make 70% of the average fans mad even if the return was significant for the future.
