  1. Sarcasm don't disabled on my phone again? ? Though, he was great in the first. Tale of two innings.
  2. Berrios needs to come to play today. It would be great to see him actually come up big against a division rival regardless of how the season is going.
  3. I'd keep Kepler, for now. I'd like to see how he does the rest of the season before making any real judgements. Will he be more like 2019 or 2020? Obviously right now he's the 2020 version. If that's the case, maybe try to trade him and see if anyone bites. I hate that this team always seems to sell low (if at all), but at this point, I'm not sure timing matters.
  4. Interestingly enough, Gordon has only played one game in his professional career at 3B. 2016 with Ft. Myers where he had three chances with a PO, an assist and an error. I'm not sure that proves anything either way, I just found it interesting since I didn't think Gordon had ever played the hot corner. At this point, getting him in a game should be a priority anyway. If that's who they throw over there if Donaldson is traded, fine by me. I know that I don't want Sano there and I'm not crazy about Arraez there. I'm still leery about Miranda at this point. I'd be fine if they brought him up, but I think I'd rather see Gordon get some reps there first. Assuming he's not getting reps elsewhere due to other trades anyway.
  5. That's fine in the short term, though I wouldn't like it either. Most definitely NOT for the long term. I do wonder what his playing time would look like if the team were healthier, but that's a topic for a different thread.
  6. I know what you mean. I feel like I'm defending the guy here, but I'm definitely not trying to! His faults have certainly been more obvious this year. Winning cures a lot of things and they clearly aren't winning right now. And it's fair to criticize him for many things, though there are obvious areas that aren't his fault (bullpen composition). As I mentioned in another post, I've got the same issues now that I had in 2019. That's all fair. But he's got to get some credit for guiding the team to two division titles. That's where I think some are inconsistent.
  7. Agreed. There are more factors there, for sure.
  8. In fairness, I don't think this discussion revolves around the recent disdain. It should/would be happening regardless of recent events. He's an asset that can be traded and potentially help other areas. I tend to agree with your overall point though. The lack of solid option at 3B is a problem for me too. There's potential it could be more problematic than intended.
  9. No, but the prep that you and your staff do before a game can help produce them.
  10. I didn't say that there weren't warts in 2019. The difference here is that I'm also giving him credit for the offense, not just ripping him for the flaws. I had my quarrels then too. That hasn't changed at all, actually. In fact, I still have the same issues with his managing now as I did then. Those have always been there for me. I even agree that the home runs covered up the issues, because they did. However, it is inconsistent to not give him some credit for the good but then rip him for the other things. There's a nuance here that I think is getting missed. Perhaps I'm not explaining clearly. You're touching on it, but I don't interpret your overall comments as having that opinion. There's a difference between changing an opinion and cherry picking the bad and ignoring the good. What I'm referring to is those in the latter category. I agree, changing of opinion is not inconsistency. Ignoring the positives to embrace the negatives is though. I think we're both in agreement in saying that he's always been a questionable manager, I'm simply giving him credit for the offensive output. He had his hand in that and should get some credit for it. That doesn't mean that he didn't have flaws or that he was even a good manager. Just that he should get some credit for it. I don't think you're ignoring the positives, you're illustrating that the flaws have always been there, which I agree with.
  11. Isn't it possible that endless injuries and a hodgepodge pitching staff are making life for the manager more difficult? Why does Baldelli not get credit for an offensive juggernaut that he managed but then gets blamed for things that are outside of his control? I'm not really a fan of Baldelli, but the inconsistency of giving a manager all of the blame and none of the credit is tiresome.
  12. Too early to label the FO a failure. There's enough there to retool, especially with position players. I'm not convinced there is with pitching, but that's another discussion. What to do with Polanco is a question in and of itself though. Assuming that Donaldson, Simmons and even Sano (doubtful) are all dealt, is there enough infield depth to replace an entire infield? Obviously, something that can help would need to come back in a deal somewhere. I like Polanco (at 2B, not SS), but I'm not opposed to dealing him because I do think he has decent value. Tearing down an entire infield feels more like a rebuild rather than a retool though. Regarding Buxton and Berrios, this question will hang over this team until they're either extended or gone. However, it's an important one to answer to determine the direction of the team long term. If they're both gone, the team has further to go to reach serious contender status. There's already too much to do on the pitching side.
  13. Good write-up, Seth. I agree with your take on the playoffs. I think it would be more beneficial to have those extra 10 games or so. Surely, it's more fun to have the playoffs and the push to make them though. And they do provide an "education" of their own as well. But, I think to have all of the minor league affiliates playing those extra games is probably the better idea in general. Game reps are important for development.
  14. I'm not against trading Donaldson. In many aspects, as pointed out in the post, it makes a lot of sense. I disagree with the notion that he can be replaced though. I don't feel that he is a luxury either. The FO made a concerted effort to upgrade the infield defense. He was part of that. He may not have been the primary target, and I've never been crazy about the signing, but he's a pretty good pivot move. I think moving Sano back to 3B or playing Arraez there regularly is a rather large regression. One can hope that Miranda can fit that bill sooner rather than later, but I'd like to see more than just a two month white hot streak before I depend on him. These are fine for a short term answer for the rest of the season, but I'm leery about the long-term outside of Miranda. None of this is really the point though and the benefits of dealing Donaldson probably outweigh them. Any salary relief must be reinvested. I'm not one that feels that it'll be a difference maker in bring back Berrios or Buxton, but it certainly can't hurt. Regardless, they've got a mess of a pitching staff that also needs to be dealt with this offseason. So, if they can unload him and get some salary relief and maybe some lottery tickets too, then that's the correct call. I can deal with the short term question marks.
  15. Nope. If you're going to blame him for this season, you've got to give him credit for the last two.
  16. Funny, I'd a figured you to be more of a Yes fan.
  17. I'm amused by the lack of a definitive "No" answer. Clearly, that's the wrong answer anyway. At this point, I think it's a definite possibility that Sano strikes himself out soft tossing to himself.
  18. I like that idea. Given a lighter return, perhaps that pulls a few more borderline buyer teams into the fray. Probably sit on guys like Cruz and Pineda (pending health status) a little longer to see if more teams join the market for those types of players. Everyone else that would be tradeable would fall in between?
  19. Only 8 LOB for Sano today. Stellar.
  20. And that's how you get to a streak like theirs. That's the issue.
  21. Ah yes, the alternative definition of a "family website".
  22. Is that a threat or promise? I might need him to yell at a cloud.
