The Case Against the Twins Trading Luis Arraez
wsnydes replied to Theodore Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Arraez quite a bit. I like what he brings to the table offensively. I think his skillset is one this team needs. The problem the Twins face with Arraez is that there are two veterans entrenched in his best positions defensively. I wouldn't mind DH'ing him, but Sano should be there, IMHO, to free up 1B for Kirilloff. The pieces, as currently configured, don't really lend to anything other than a trade. That doesn't mean that Arraez is that piece, but somebody has to be. -
Wouldn't be opposed to this, but it's not exactly exciting. Ober in particular could benefit from having him around. As @Karbosaid, I think they could do better going the trade route.

Can Ryan Jeffers Get His Groove Back?
wsnydes replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He simply needs to adjust to the big leagues. That sometimes takes time. It almost always takes time in the big leagues. Getting consistent playing time would also help. I'm not too concerned yet. And as @Doctor Gastmentioned, not facing lefties doesn't help him much. -
If the o/u for minutes Thursday's meeting lasts is 10.5, which would you bet on?

Part 6: Seth's Top 30 Twins Hitting Prospects (1-5)
wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I think Lewis is a huge wild card for this organization. If he pans out, especially if his bat comes around and glove sticks at SS, that would be huge for this squad. Couple that with the pitching finally coming up and they'd have a young core to build around. That could still happen with Martin, but having both Martin and Lewis would be a luxury this team hasn't seen in a long time, if ever.- 17 replies

Twins to Retire Jim Kaat’s Number
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I get what you're saying, but he spent 15 years in MN. That's more than any of the other retired numbers aside from Mauer (15) and Kelly (16). It's not like he was here for a cup of coffee. ? -
Part 6: Seth's Top 30 Twins Pitching Prospects (1-5)
wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for these lists, Seth! Always a good read and I enjoy getting your takes on the top end of the farm system. Count me as among those that found Canterino to be in the top spot. That's high praise. Hopefully he, along with the rest of them, can stay healthy and show everyone why he belongs.- 33 replies

What If Baseball Gives Us the Opposite of 2020?
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can't see the whole season being cancelled. I could see another 60 game season, but I don't expect it'll get that far either. A cancelled season would be a major blow to the sport. I don't know if either side acknowledges or cares about that, but that would be worse than the '94 strike.- 12 replies

If the Twins are to be a competent team, as the roster stands today, all three of these guys will need to produce. I'm not sure I'd consider them sleepers for that reason. They're being relied upon at this point.

The Twins Need Buxton Insurance
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Celestino is probably the immediate insurance policy. I don't have an issue with Gordon if Celestino's bat continues to flounder though. I'd really like to know what the organization is planning for Martin. If they want him to stick at SS, then he should keep playing there. But if they don't think he can stick there, CF insurance is a good role for him if Buxton is out for an extended period of time.- 24 replies

Steamer Projects Massive Season for Byron Buxton
wsnydes replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And here lies the crux of the frustration with Buxton. These projections seem completely reasonable given 130+ games played. Hopefully he'll be able to put together one of those seasons and we all can sit back and enjoy the show. -
New Years Resolutions: Starting Pitching
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As it sits right now, a lot more guys than Ober and Ryan need to establish themselves. While I think Dobnak is much more suited for a starting role and expect him to be worked back into the rotation, I'm not sure that he can be relied on at this point. Even if you do decide to rely on him, that still leaves one open spot in the rotation. And that assumes that Bundy is less of what he was last season and more of what he was earlier in his career. This season's flow will go with the rollercoaster that is likely to be the rotation. Lots of highs and just as many lows.- 40 replies

12 Days of Twinsmas: #4 Joe Mauer
wsnydes replied to Andrew Mahlke's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'll never get tired of watching that swing. In their prime, there were two players in all of baseball that I would stop whatever I was doing and watch the at bat; Mauer and Pujols. Also, the only reason that I was at the final home game in 2018 was because I believed that was going to be Mauer's last game. I had more pressing things to do, and the weather certainly could have made for a more enjoyable day. I'm far from a Mauer fanboy, but I appreciate a talent like his and I wanted to enjoy it one last time. Absolutely glad that I went. -
The Twins Need to Spend…On This Bat?
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd absolutely love to bring Bryant in. He's better than any of the depth they have anywhere aside from maybe 3B. He's a guy I'd find a place for. But it's all a pipe dream, so there's also that.- 20 replies

That's certainly where he belongs, 1B. That Sano guy needs to get out of the way though.

Part 2: Seth's Top 30 Twins Hitting Prospects (21-25)
wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Good point. In my mind, I'd like to see him prove that 2018 and 2019 were the fluke, not 2021. I don't know what the likelihood of this would be, but I'd love to see him just flat out take the SS position in ST. Make it hard for the organization to send him back down. He excites me more than most of the remaining free agent crop anyway.- 23 replies

This largely depends on what the goal for the season is. If they're trying to rebound from last season and be competitive in the division, making a trade is the thing to do since they're clearly not signing free agent talent. But if they're retooling (or whatever we're calling it), then it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to deal anyone unless the idea is to free up playing time for a guy like Miranda.

Will José Miranda Make the Twins' Opening Day Roster?
wsnydes replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't know where he'd play without someone getting dealt. I definitely don't want him just sitting on the bench, he needs to be playing every day. It'll be interesting to see what happens if he has a massive spring though. -
Here's Why the Twins Haven't Gone Hard After Pitching
wsnydes replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Valid question, for sure. I'm willing to accept reluctance early in the season given the lack of prior season, but that doesn't apply to the later part of the season. Several were injured and I'm sure that trying to limit innings coming off the loss of the prior season also plays into it. I don't think that answers the question entirely though.- 94 replies

Here's Why the Twins Haven't Gone Hard After Pitching
wsnydes replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The pitching prospects are the single biggest reason why I've been reluctant to simply write off this FO to this point. They were tasked with rebuilding the entire organization from the top down, that doesn't happen overnight. I have plenty of quarrels with how they've handled the big league club, particularly lately, but I've been under the assumption that they were simply setting themselves up for the point in time described in this article. Now they've just got to be right.- 94 replies

Twins Future Position Analysis: Center Field
wsnydes replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Gordon is the primary backup to Buxton to start the season. Martin or Lewis will eventually play into that role. Celestino could as well, but depending on how Martin and/or Lewis turn out, he may be a good trade chip or become a primary backup should Lewis or Martin be dealt. There are a few scenarios there that would work fine, but beyond that, I'm not really sure what they've got.- 18 replies
