  1. I'm also wondering if the move to 2B is simply more comfortable for him, allowing him to relax a little bit more. SS always seemed like a stretch for him defensively.
  2. All things considered, I think they did pretty well. It sucks to lose Berrios, but I think the fact that they dealt him shows that they didn't believe they could re-sign him. Given that, they did very well in dealing him. I would have liked to see Simmons and Pineda dealt, but since they weren't, I think they'd be wise to pivot and extend Pineda.
  3. That guy gets traded so often he should be listed on the NYSE.
  4. I think my coping strategy for the rest of the season is to watch/listen solely for the purpose of seeing what asinine ways this team finds to lose. It's almost entertaining in its own right, sadly.
  5. I've actually flip flopped on this situation. I wanted the team to focus on Berrios because he was the safer sign. I still think he is the safer sign, but Buxton is that game changer that the team needs. That any team needs. I'm not worried about him being the next David Ortiz, I'm worried about him becoming a healthy Byron Buxton. When he's on the field, the team is so much better. These types of players simply don't come around very often. I'm with @USAFChief in that expecting Buxton to sign for $15M guaranteed is lunacy. I like the idea of incentives to trigger a bigger payday. I can understand why Buxton wouldn't like that, but if he's betting on himself, then a mindset of these being achievable isn't unreasonable. What this team can't do is let him walk. If they can't sign him, they need to trade him. That's not my preferred option, but it's a lot better than getting a comp pick for him.
  6. Mondays suck...it's time to go hang out and enjoy some baseball with my two favorite Scottish exports; my dog and whisky!

  7. Oh my God...I've been working in the yard and sweating my butt off all day and then decided it was a good idea to come in and start drinking cocktails and I can't stop laughing! Bravo, Ash! Bravo!
  8. Only about half as much as @USAFChief though! ?
  9. There are essentially two kinds of pitchers these days. Those that have already had TJ and those who will. Avoiding them reduces your pool of pitching options considerably. The surgery is common enough these days, and with a very high success rate, that I don't believe it to be a reason to avoid someone.
  10. I figure that they went the 10 day route in case he does heal up quickly. They can still move him to the 60 day if they need or want to, but can't go the other direction. There's no reason to rush him though. I certainly don't expect to see him again this season. I am glad that it was decided to deal with this now instead of the offseason though. No reason for him to keep playing with the injury this season.
  11. You beat me to it! I, for one, am hoping for a matchup of Ohtani v Astudillo and another Astudillo v Ohtani in the same game. I don't even care if the world burns because of it!
  12. If all of this complaining continues, I may have to file a complaint!
  13. A reliever that comes into a tough spot and steps up to the task? How refreshing! That would have been fun to watch. Nerve wracking, but fun when it was over. In a sense, it's good to see Winder get roughed up a bit. Nothing wrong with a reality check now and then.
  14. I think this season is "just one of those seasons". There has been plenty of craziness, plenty of acquisitions that fell flat, plenty of players that simply haven't produced, and plenty of brow raising decision making. Sometimes those things happen. Less frequently, they all happen and you get this season. Some of those issues go back to the start of Rocco's tenure. Some new issues look like they're coming from a manager that's trying to find something that works. The trade deadline will likely show us what direction the FO is thinking for next season, with an offseason to cement it. I'm firmly on the "wait and see" train with Rocco. I'm looking for some clarity from the FO to determine how I will set my expectations for next season.
  15. National Ice Cream Day Observed should be a thing.

ooh, good question!  Chocolate chip cookie dough probably has to be my favorite flavor.

Favorite brand is more difficult.  Edy's Slow Churned is fantastic!  Izzy's for the local flare.  Their shops have closed, but you can still get it in the grocery store.  I have to avoid both of them most of the time.  They don't last long in the house!

I think the answer should be 'yes'. My 'go to' flavor for a long time was B&J's coffee heath bar crunch, but then it changed and not as good, at all. (They stopped using Heath Bars.) Now I don't see it. But, having grown up with a DQ sign flashing across a large open field into my bedroom window for years growing up, I love DQ still. But if you ever get down to Fort Myers for ST, stop in at Sun Harvest for a key lime/chocolate twist cone :)

"Yes" is definitely an appropriate answer!

DQ is hard to beat.  Lots of DQ runs after a baseball game while growing up.  I have had the chance to stop at Sun Harvest once while I was in Ft. Myers one year.  Don't recall what flavor it had, but I remember it being good.  It's been a few years since I've been able to make it to spring training, but that place is definitely on the list of places to go back to.

  16. Much ado about nothing. That's a veteran player calling out a younger player for not being ready for a pitch. That's the sort of thing I would expect to happen. Arraez needs to be ready for the pitch too. I don't know why Rocco would need to be in on this. Cruz and Watkins had it under control. That's why you have a coaching staff and bring in veteran players. The fact that the manager isn't involved should tell you how severe this is/isn't.
  17. Not that I expected much coming into the second half, but it would have been nice to see some of that momentum going into the break carry over. Quite the clunker coming out of the break. I have no idea about what to do with Sano. It'll be interesting to see what's going to happen when Cave gets activated. I agree on Happ, though I'm not happy about it. If Rocco is going to keep pulling guys early and Ober's innings limited, it seems logical to keep an innings eater around even if he does get blasted. Sacrificial lamb is a good role for him.
  18. Maybe, but I still don't want to be carrying a 34 year old, washed up player at AAA that is only there because he made it abundantly clear that he couldn't help the big league club now, let alone an additional 38 year old. And neither will help the club in the future.
  19. Likewise. Clarity is good, but wins are certainly more fun.
  20. I'm quite interested to see what happens with him at the deadline. I could see someone putting up an offer that might be difficult to pass up. Same with Arraez. Glad to see him getting back in the groove.
  21. I had heard the Verlander bit before, but I always find things like this interesting. This is full of good stuff like that. Thanks for the good read!
