  1. Excellent article, Jamie! I look forward to seeing what else you've got in the pipeline like this!
  2. I, for one, did not see a pitchers duel being the result of this game. Nor would I expect a win with only 4 hits. But, I'll take it any day against the Pale Hose!
  3. I don't know if Jax will continue this run, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts. It also reinforces the point that the prospects should be up getting innings. Gotta see what they've got!
  4. Agreed, the Madrigal trade was brow raising. I'm sure that one wasn't easy, but we'll see if it works out for them. the AL is rather ripe for the taking, so I can't blame them too much for pushing all of their chips in.
  5. For sure. I wasn't trying to really compare them either. Just noting that the Sox very quickly leap-frogged most of the league in pretty short order by identifying what they wanted and going out to get it. And then this season, they kept going by getting even better at the deadline shoring up weaknesses and keeping up with the Joneses. That's not what this team did when they had that opportunity in 2019.
  6. While true, when their window of opportunity opened, they blew the window right out of the frame. Frankly, I'm jealous of what they accomplished in relative short order.
  7. In that span, there are few front offices that I would put above them. They took the bull by the horns and got aggressive and they're reaping the benefits of it.
  8. I hope that they do learn something from the evaluation aspect, but given the context, I imagine they do the same thing. They needed to fill the roster with known commodities, not complete wild cards who hadn't played in two years. Context is important in this discussion.
  9. He's a guy that took advantage of the opportunity he was given. There's no guarantee that he even would have cracked the active roster had he been kept. Conventional wisdom or not, it's wise roster management to keep a guy that you know can help you contend over a guy that hadn't played in two years and is basically a complete unknown. That's a much different story than the situation Detroit was in.
  10. The Tigers and Twins were in much different situations leading into this season. The Twins were expected to contend and the Tigers...not so much. A contending team can't stash away a guy in Baddoo's position and need established major league players. The Tigers could afford to take that risk. This one just worked in Detroit's favor.
  11. I think I'm in a similar mindset as you. There are positives that I like, negatives that I definitely do not (these generally drive me nuts), some that I'm indifferent about, and some that are incomplete. Throw all of that in a blender and I've got a net neutral opinion that lists one way or another on a daily basis. In the end, I need to see something more one way or another before I can really determine where I'm at with them.
  12. I always forget about the academy classwork that is offered to players. That is cool. Congrats to all of those guys!
  13. Fact of the matter is that ownership has never shown themselves to be impatient. This FO started to rebuild the organization from the top down and there's been every indication that ownership is onboard with that and will allow them the time to do so. One year certainly isn't going to change that. So, this FO is going to be here to help clean up the mess unless they decide to bail on it themselves. There are plenty of reasons to dislike what was done in the past year. I imagine if you could get a candid response from the FO, they'd have a list of their own. For a FO that has had pretty good success, I'm now interested to see how they react and deal with some adversity. To me, that's the real test. Things aren't always going to go as planned. How they react is a good barometer of how fit they are for their jobs.
  14. Larnach doesn't pitch, catch, or play infield, so that's all irrelevant. Buxton, Garlick, Cave, Kepler, Kirilloff and Refsnyder have all been hurt. Someone has to play the outfield, ready or not. It's been a long season, I get it. A veteran doesn't change any of that.
  15. With all do respect, this roster was loaded with established veterans at C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, CF, RF, DH, 4/5 of the starting rotation and most of the bullpen. That's gotten them to where they currently reside; the bottom of the AL Central. Time to reset. Let the kids have their growing pains now, not next season. Signing a veteran to block the glut of corner types in the farm system won't help anything.
  16. Wrecking a good team's weekend at home is so much more fun than losing. Being a good guest is overrated sometimes.
  17. Someone can confirm, but I was led to believe that Manfred banned those!
  18. Tyler sounds like he'd make a fine addition to a game thread or two!
  19. Nice, effective, outing for Jax. Still think he's a reliever at this level, but I'll take what he gave last night. I tuned in after the 2nd inning and noticed that the team was 3 for 4 with RISP only to see them go 1 for 10 the remainder of the game. That sort of thing will never not drive me nuts.
  20. This is why I think this team could still be interesting next season. Sure, they've got plenty of work to do with the pitching and that will ultimately determine how competitive the club will be, but there's still a pretty good core here to build around. They may be inconsistent given the youth I'm expecting to see, but there's potential there.
  21. I think the trade deadline left enough talent on the roster to build around and actually have some respectability in 2022. They may not truly compete, but they should be heading in that direction. Trading all of these guys seems not only unnecessary, but counterproductive. I could see trading Kepler if Kirilloff needs a position because Sano is still around. Buxton should only be traded if they know they won't be able to extend him.
  22. In fairness, I did say that my preference was to keep him. In a season like this, and with the prospects coming up behind him, it's not an unreasonable question. That's what losing teams do in order to try to improve. The Cubs just did the same thing with the remainder of their WS winning core. You're right that it is more appropriate for a different thread though.
  23. Fair question. I'd like to hold onto him, but wouldn't be too devastated if they did deal him. I'd at least wait until next season's trade deadline to see if those prospects can actually get to the bigs before I do though.
  24. It's nice to see the team still has some fight late in games. Wins and losses aren't all that important to me at this point in the season, but it is still nice to have some respectability.
