    Where were they investing within the franchise to incur that type of debt? It wasn't payroll, if that's the implication here. The fan apathy timeline you laid out is some heavy revisionist history. The team was awful in 2021, they collapsed and missed the postseason again in 2022 and fans were treated to DSP scolding them for not showing up. They weren't a good club for most of 2023, they did nothing at that tread deadline, but still made the postseason due to young players lifting them up for the last 4-6 weeks and the rest of the division being a historic dumpster fire. Ownership followed up the first postseason Ws in 2 decades by immediately announcing a payroll reduction (time to "right size") then they took the quick cash and hopped right back into bed with Bally and deflected any/all blame when their broadcasts were pulled. They did nothing at the trade deadline (again) and collapsed (again) to finish 2024. Why should fans invest in this team? That's the question you should be asking.

    Because this FO values "depth," and "flexibility," to an extreme degree. Nothing about Bader's numbers vs. RHP suggest he should be getting much run against them but he will. Margot was allowed to set a record for all time futility as a PH last season, he came close to touching 400 PAs, and half of those PAs came against RHP against whom he posted a mighty .540 OPS.

    Yep, long term commitment doesn't make sense for either side right now. They've got years to figure something out, there's no reason to rush it right now.

    I'm pretty sure I remember that number being fairly contentious. I know Ober was still struggling to stay healthy during that time and injuries were starting to creep into the picture for Polanco but I'm also certain I recall a lot of fringe guys and non factors racking up time on the IL.

    Nothing. He doesn't hit FA until he's 30 and he hasn't been able to stay remotely healthy through his mid 20s. Diamond hands.

    Honestly, the Twins have turned out a master class on how to erode a fanbase. Attempting to gaslight us into believing we're the problem is the cherry on top.

    This team has collapsed 2 of the last 3 seasons. They honestly weren't a very good club for most of 2023 either but that gets papered over. The broadcast situation last year was a disaster. They've done absolutely nothing at the trade deadline the last few seasons. "Right sizing," payroll became a running joke. Upper management is blaming fans for not turning out. Injuries have plagued their biggest FA signing, and most recently Royce Lewis didn't even make it to Opening Day before missing a significant amount of time. I mean.... The Pohlads should be thankful that a beautiful ballpark was greenlit, and that the Twins play in a location where cabin fever is very real. They would be drawing TB type attendance numbers if the Twin Cities had TB weather year round.

    No doubt genetic makeup plays a role here, though I do think the "too strong," argument is a bastardized version of a legitimate concern.

    How excited should posters be? Gonzalez struggled repeating A ball last year. His ability to stick in a corner OF spot is already in question at 21, he's not fast, and he showed almost no power last season.

    He hasn't cracked double digit steals in 5 years, but sure, at 31 years of age this is the turnaround....

    One of the worst in team history? Nope. Giving up surplus value at one position and getting nothing in return isn't a "nothing burger," though. It was a bad trade. Polanco flopping in Seattle takes away some of the sting, but at the end of the day, whether you want to call the swap asset mismanagement, poor scouting, or whatever, it all falls under the same umbrella. Santana seems like a convenient stand in. Topa, DeSclafani, and Margot collectively cost what MN shed in moving Polanco. Why not use that trio instead? A "vast majority," as if there's any sort of actual consensus? The quantifiable value (Polanco's 2024 results) are more relevant than his value at the time he was dealt? It sounds like you're making the exact type of argument you're railing against.

    There was plenty of grumbling about Correa's contract last summer. People still complain about Buxton making $10M. Donaldson was a source of angst. Mauer received endless amounts of s*** for taking a discount to stay. How many fans were glad the Twins whiffed on Zach Wheeler, Darvish, ect? This fan base has absolutely been conditioned to equate spending with risk.

    Nope, try again. Nobody from the corners slid into CF. Margot's run was entirely independent of Buxton's availability in CF. I'll say it again, that would tie Bader for the 5th most PAs on the team last season. The Twins don't do "4th OF," types. They signed Bader with the intention of giving him a starter workload. Baldelli has now come out and confirmed it. You can continue to bury your head in the sand, but Harrison Bader, for all intents and purposes, is a starting OF for the Minnesota Twins. Whether he hangs onto that role is yet to be seen.

    Last season Margot received nearly 2x the number of PAs as your Yankee comp, and that was without playing CF. Tell me again this organization is committed to keeping Bader in a limited role....

    Definitely feel worse after hearing it confirmed that Bader is going to "get a lot of work," in LF. Hopefully we can drop the "4th OF," charade at this point.

    Ok, we've covered this part too. 300 is the COMBINED CAREER number of PAs for BOTH Larnach and Wallner over 6-7 seasons...

    Yeah I'm not exactly excited about Austin Martin getting starts in CF. I'm probably less excited about a France, Bader, Vazquez 7-9. They could've held water defensively in CF with less investment. Clearly, the Twins want Bader's bat as well. I disagree.

    With the important caveat that Martin or someone of lesser stature (be it financial commitment or service time) won't get the same leash. In that way I don't believe the complaint is misplaced. Eh, Martin torpedoing your season and Bader saving it seems a little hyperbolic. I think it's just as likely we get to August and we're asking why this club is still investing time in Bader. I think the positives Bader brings will be outweighed by his misuse. .

    We've been over this; he hasn't faced LHP since 2019. Nobody is the "4th OF," with the way this team platoons, and that's precisely the point you continue to dodge. Why get fixated on how many PAs this team will commit to a terrible hitter? Yeesh. What a comp....

    Concur, square peg round hole yada yada, but that doesn't change the fact this FO sought out Harrison Bader for a specific role, one which I don't believe he's capable of actually filling.

    You answered your own question. His salary probably more than his defense will buy him time. Bader hasn't hit for 3 seasons, and two of those three he wasn't good against LHP either. Is this the lefty bounce back year, or is he almost/already cooked? Eh, Idk if I'd call the angst misplaced. This organization seeks out this type of player. Like I said, it's idealized role vs. reality. I don't begrudge Bader for accepting the contract, but I don't for one second believe he'll be utilized as an actual 4th OF, or that this organization will move on if/when his presence at the bottom of the lineup starts to become an albatross.

    His? 300 is the combined number of career PAs between the two.... Speaking of convenient, Bader is back to being a 4th OF now? You just said you want/expect him to finish with enough PAs to put him in the top 5 from last season. I understand that locking yourself into that many PAs of a below average at best hitter isn't a great idea. Happy to be wrong though... Austin Martin outhit Bader last year. I know you hate him, and yes his OF defense was brutal, but for all his warts, rookie Austin Martin outhit Harrison Bader, the same Harrison Bader you're hoping gets 400 PAs.

    Lol "since 2019," is an interesting way to phrase it, Each subsequent year he's been either injured or predominately with the Twins who, as we've already gone over, won't let him face LHP. You have to give them a chance to perform. He can't pencil himself into the lineup, or stop his manager from sending in a PH. Ditto for Wallner. Is there some magic threshold beyond which you can be certain? Ok, so he's not a 4th OF. I think if you're dumping 400 PAs into a guy coming off the season Bader just had, that player should have upside, or options, or a potential future with the club. 400 PAs ties Bader for 5th most on the team last year. You have to hit if you're getting that kind of run. He's not being reduced to anything; I'm pointing out that handing that many PAs to a negative contributor is poor strategy. I can appreciate a player's ability to catch the ball while simultaneously understanding that he also has to hit it in order to maintain any surplus value.
