    The offseason as a whole. But I’d say the moment it was lost was when the owners said they were reducing payroll.

    The Sox do not have public support. Most of the fans nowadays are ready to say ‘buh bye’ because Reinsdorf has killed virtually all of their fan base. I have lived here a long time and I haven’t seen their fandom any lower. They are the least popular pro sports team in all of Chicago, including soccer and the wnba. There won’t be much outrage if they leave, so there is no leverage to hold over anyone with the threat of moving. Say hello to the Nashville Sox.

    They will not get a new stadium that the city and state pay for. That has already been made abundantly clear to them. The city does not have money for that. If they build a new stadium, it will need to be privately financed. And the city of late has been rather indifferent about the Sox. Take any survey and the Sox are dead last among people out of all the professional sports teams in Chicago.

    Let me tell you about Related Midwest ... they've had that parcel for a very long time. Cleared it out, got a road built through the middle of it, then have done nothing with it. One of (their only) anchor, backed out of building there. They don't know what to do with it. It's been sitting dead for a long time with no plan. Reinsdorf wants the city to build a stadium there so that he and the developers can then make a **** ton of money developing the rest of that parcel. So they worked together to build a 'mock up' of how the stadium might fit there. The city has given them NO INDICATION of supporting this, none. They want the city to build it so they can make money on the rest of the land. It's not going to happen. Seriously. Not happening. Reinsdorf and the White Sox still owe the city a ton of money in bonds for Guaranteed Rate. And the way the fanbase thinks of the team right now, if Reinsdorf sells, it's likely the team will be moved elsewhere. Unless MLB blocks that. The city has no money for this and the city will not support this. If a stadium gets built there, Reinsdorf and Related Midwest will need to find private financing.

    The stadium does not have to be in Chicago ... yet, there's so much more potential revenue in Chicago? Which is it? Are they leaving Chicago for a new stadium, or staying because of the potential revenue? The White Sox will either have to get a stadium in the suburbs, funded by that suburb, or they will be sold and moved to another state. They will not get a new stadium in the city unless the owners finance it themselves with a partner. They are trying to get something, in my neighborhood in fact, but it's not going to happen. The fan base for the White Sox has waned greatly in recent years and there would have to be something dramatic done to win them back, if they stay here. They are pretty much dead last behind all the other professional sports teams here, including soccer and wnba.

    Guaranteed rate is not suburban. Not even close. It's just not downtown. That said, Target Field is a WAY better stadium. Still, I would prefer Guaranteed Rate over Wrigley.

    I still follow the team and keep up on things, but last off-season just ended the enthusiasm I had for the team. The season before was great. Along with signing Correa they went out and broke their curse. I thought a corner was turned where investment in the team and winning was finally going to be a thing. Nope. So much for hoping. Reduce payroll and don’t fill your roster with competence. So many teams in the 2000s had that potential that was never fully invested in, and then Santana said he was out. Thats when I wanted the Pohlads out. But I started getting hopeful again when they signed Correa. Ugh. Back there again. So, yeah, what was the point? I have no idea but these owners today are just killing the sport.

    I haven’t read anything that would suggest Lee County Sports Complex was damaged, either on the Twins site or in the local Fort Myers news. Outside the barrier islands, biggest damage to the area was caused by the tornadoes. I’ll be down there in a week, will check it out.

    First, don’t call me man. I am not. Second, don’t tell me how I should feel. Third, don’t tell anyone they should feel exactly as you do. Beating the Blue Jays was a way more happier event. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike this news, I’ve been wanting it for a long time. But there is more to know before I let ecstatic carry me away.

    See, now I wouldn’t call that afraid. Cynical, maybe, but not afraid. And probably more realistic than most can handle. That said, who knows. I’ve said that nothing will change until there is change at the top. Now we will hopefully, finally have change at the top so I’m choosing to be cautiously optimistic. It’s the change I’ve wanted for a long time now. I think I was through with this ownership since 2006. But … I’ve been fooled before, so, we will see.
