Hope that an NL team can be sold on his late season recovery as the representation of his current value; as opposed to a nice stretch of receiving lots of run support while pitching against mediocre teams
I think we need to sell high on Gibson and move on to something else before he ReBlackburnizes. Mejia's ultimate role might be as a Mijares. Anything from AA is simply depth for a contending team.
Today's game? Swing for the fences or strikeout - we've got that. The part of today's game we don't have is power arms with power sliders. We had Buddy Boshers warming up yesterday for gosh sakes. Get pitching and let Molitor fail when he has better options before declaring him incompetent.
One thing I've noticed on Joe is he looks like he's running with ease around the bases. His legs must feel good and strong which is important for his hitting base.
You could tell Ervin wasn't feeling it, or that the AZ hitters were jumping his fastballs and he needed time to rethink his game plan. Lessons I hope Berrios picks up over time. Otherwise an incredibly fun night.
Trade grossman - high obp guy who switch hits - should get something. The same could be said for Esco but I think he's an intangibles guy who needs to be around. I'd trade Kintzler too, for anything.
I'm curious to see what Kansas City does with their impending free agents - buy because this is their last shot in a while or sell to regroup faster. I think the Twins should counter whatever they do with the opposite. Of course the Astros Yankees and Dodgers series might make it all moot with Gibby and Duffey and crew.
Can't quite have enough long relievers with this staff so I think this is a realistic acknowledgement. A little surprising there's not another RH bat for platooning against LH starters.
These things really end up working themselves out because 3 guys will come out of spring training with injuries and 3 other guys will be injured a month into the season.
Aren't the majority of our starters 'flyball pitchers' anyway, save for 'Gibby'? Does that make shortstop defense more or less critical? (SS gets less chances/more important to convert them?)
Scott Stahoviak seems to get a bad rap. His 1996 line resulted in an .845 OPS(!) 30 doubles, 13 homeruns. Tell me we wouldn't love that from our First Baseman.
