  1. It has nothing to do with needing a high payroll blank check to properly run a team. What shouldn't happen, and did happen, was ownership telling Falvey to decrease payroll by $30 million the season after he signs a couple of larger deals. Requiring the front office to significantly decrease payroll right after signing those large contracts hamstrung the front office.
  2. Very exciting news!!
  3. The Twins don't need starting pitching since their starting rotation already has Lopez, Ober, Ryan, SWR, Paddack, Festa, and Matthews all with big league experience. Raya, Morris, Culpepper, Lewis, and Castellano are all at AA or AAA and Prielipp isn't too far behind all of them. The Twins need bullpen help and they need another good righthanded hitter.
  4. I have no idea if they would be good owners or not but the fact that they're actual fans of baseball is definitely a good sign. The Pohlads only cared about the bottom line and never about actually winning.
  5. He had a 959 OPs against left-handed pitching though, which is what the article is about. Trying to find a player who can platoon for Wallner or Larnach.
  6. Give him 45 games at AA, and if he's producing like he did at A and high A then move him to AAA. He's the type of prospect that doesn't need a full season or even a half season at any one level.
  7. He's listed at 6 feet tall, so if that's correct, he's not really short. Pedrioa was like 5 foot 8.
  8. He's probably the prospect I'm most excited about for this season. Assuming he's healthy going into the season, I feel like he could be a real game changer for the Twins the second half of the season. He'll likely start at AAA, so between him and Emmanuel Rodriguez the Twins could have some exciting injury replacements.
  9. It's pretty well known he had tommy John surgery in August, and mentioned in the article, and usually when you have that surgery your arm is injured prior, which limits your ability to throw. Hence the teams he was on not being able to fully utilize him.
  10. It'll be interesting to see if the Twins trade any of these pitchers. They have four solid to good pitchers in the big-league rotation in Lopez, Ryan, Ober and SWR. The Twins have 6 pitchers in Festa, Matthews, Morris, Lewis, Raya and Adams ready for AAA. Add in Dobnak at AAA and Pierson Ohl and CJ Culpepper at AA the Twins have a lot of depth. Obviously, some won't make it to the MLB, and some will move to the bullpen, but they will need rotation stops to start the season. Can the Twins make a trade to help out the major league roster?
  11. Shaq would be a lot of fun as an owner of the Twins.
  12. If the front office is going to spend any money this offseason, which I doubt because of the Pohlads, it needs to be on pitching. Ideally, they would trade Paddack and bring in another Lopez type pitcher who is on a cheap deal and sign or trade for another legit bullpen arm.
  13. It'll be interesting once names or groups start to float around the rumor mill for who will be interested.
  14. What's the powerball at? headed to a gas station after work to buy a couple of tickets.
  15. Why don't the major sports teams in Minnesota come together to produce a package similar to the YES Network. Between the Twins, Wolves, Lynx, Wild, and MN United they should be able to come up with sports package that provides streaming capabilities and also the ability to sell to Directv and comcast. They would then be able to share the production costs between the teams.
  16. I think the price is fine. When I was living out of state, I purchased both MLB.tv and NHL.tv, and the prices for both were similar. After next season it will be interesting to see what the number of subscribers is. How much of a decrease in TV revenue will the Twins receive? I'm assuming MLB will receive a portion of the $99 subscription fee but what's the breakdown? How many of the estimated 4.4 million households will subscribe?
  17. What? This same product has already been used for three other teams this past season.... How what will work for the season ticket holders? What?
  18. The problem with trading either is the FO would need to replace whichever one they traded away. Say they have to eat $5M of Vazquez's $10M contract to be able to trade him. Would the FO be able to sign an adequate replacement for less than $5M? If not, then the trade doesn't make sense. Same thing with Jeffers. If they trade his $5M contract away, who replaces him? What do the Twins do after next season if they trade Jeffers this offseason and Vazquez becomes a free agent? It doesn't appear the Twins have any catchers developing in the minor leagues. Unless the Twins can trade the majority of Vazquez's contract away and can get a much cheaper, adequate replacement, then it doesn't make sense to trade either.
  19. My thoughts on Paddock are, if the Twins can get out from under his $7.5 million salary, they could then trade one of the younger AA or AAA pitchers plus something else to acquire another Lopez type pitcher who hasn't been paid yet. Lopez's made roughly $5.4 million his first season with the Twins, so by subtracting Paddock's salary and adding another Lopez type they would actually be saving money next season. There are only so many spots in the rotation and with Lopez, Ryan, Ober and SWR all relatively young, where do you put Festa and Matthews who are almost ready. After next season Morris, Lewis, Adams, Raya, and Culpepper will all be knocking on the MLB door. Some of them won't pan out and some will move to the bullpen, but it's the FO's job to make that determination before some of these guys fizzle out as prospects. Why not trade from a position of strength to acquire a young and cheap MLB player?
  20. The AAA rotation should be very strong next season - Festa, Matthews, Morris, Lewis, and Adams. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if one of them was included in a trade to upgrade the MLB rotation. If the Twins can trade away Paddock and bring in another pitcher with similar talent to Lopez, they would have a very strong rotation. Lopez, trade, Ryan, Ober, SWR. With the AAA rotation still having a few arms to call upon in case of injury.
