  1. Definitely a tough spot to be in as a pitcher. He probably should have stepped off the rubber and talked to his infield and catcher...but I guess sometimes you just decide to roll with your coaches decision.
  2. Sorry, should have phrased that differently. If he shows he can be good/trustworthy late in games, another team may want to add him as a bullpen piece.
  3. My guess is they want the "vet" out there right now in the 9th. Also, if he shows he can close and we drop out of WC contention, we might get a few takers on him.
  4. I like Escobar playing everyday. If it means 2B so be it. I think I'm alone on this but he's more than a backup util type.
  5. Just seems like the Dodgers will end up getting Gray. Very solid farm and history trading with the A's. Dodgers, Yanks, Astros, Nats, Royals, Red Sox (not to mention a few other sleepers) need pitching. Who spends the most and who gets who will be interesting!
  6. Like many of you are saying, don't trade Santana unless you get blown away. A handful of teams out there will give pretty decent offers to avoid the cost of a Gray/Darvish. How desperate will the nats get with Strasburg out? Robles would be nice (not likely, I know).
  7. Where you play also makes a difference. Much easier to hit in Ari. Much easier to get away with a mistake changeup at Target field.
  8. Bob-thanks for posting that. Quite interesting to read. My point is if you are close, why not try? I'm not saying to sell the farm. But you never know how a few small/medium sized deals can impact the last 2 months. I also think the run differential is skewed from about 5 really bad games. But I get your point. I'm just naively optimistic and want to go down with a fight
  9. Are you really worried about run differential? I'm sure there have been plenty of teams that have snuck in the playoffs with bad run differentials. If you get in, you get in. Does not matter how. Wins are the only thing that matter right now. I guess everyone has their own gambling tactics...to me, being within close reach at the end of July means time to throw in some chips. An evaluation has to be made about how many. It seems like a lot of good teams have been vulnerable this year (minus Hou). A ten percent chance of making it might be as high as it's going to be for a while.
  10. I'm interested in Vince Velasquez. Price might be a bit high, but he might be worth it, especially if we could get Neshek at the same time.
  11. Those of you who don't like this trade are CONSERVATIVE! You never know how a trade will work out. Sometimes you get burned. But don't you want to TRY to win? This will not be the only move. Let's go get Britton now baby!
  12. Jaime has a lot of experience, and most AL hitters have yet to have faced him. Also gives us an option to vary our arms in the rotation and put less pressure on Berrios. Santana (RHP) Jaime (LHP) Jose (RHP) Mejia (LHP) Whoever is pitching least worst
  13. I guess I'm optimistic our OF is set for awhile. If Royce goes to the OF, so be it...I won't be disappointed. I just like the idea of having a great 3rd baseman with range for many years. Obviously we're a ways away...Will be fun to watch him progress and see what happens.
  14. Call me crazy, but I hope they move Lewis to 3rd sooner rather than later. Gordon seems to be our SS and it seems unlikely Lewis will be staying there long term.
  15. Had Strickland thrown up high, the punishment would have been more severe. That's basically what it comes down to.
  16. On a lighter side of the conversation...I have a buddy who is the Nats bullpen catcher. I told him that he needs to teach his players how to throw left hooks so they don't hurt their throwing hand. He was making fun of Harper a bit the way he threw his punches. Looks like Harper got 4 games and Strickland 6. Thought it would've been a lot more for Harper.

    De Leon

I didn't like him last year either...

    De Leon

I know it's early on...like I said in my original post, he is just coming off an injury and might end up being decent. It will take some time to tell. Personally, I do not like him as a prospect and would rather have Dozier in our lineup or trade him for someone else. I'm glad we didn't "settle" for that deal.

    De Leon

For all of you who were upset the Dozier/De Leon trade didn't happen...be happy. He made his debut yesterday and did not look good. I know he is just coming off an injury and might end up being pretty good. But he was throwing 92-93 and had no idea where the ball was going. I am perfectly happy with Dozier in our lineup every day.
  20. I would like to go after Sonny Gray (who I thought looked pretty good against us) or Vincent Velasquez. I have a feeling we could put together a pretty good package, minus Gordon, to go get them without completely breaking the bank. Most of you will say the price would be too high, but I say it's doable.
  21. Bundy is tough-has one of the better change-ups in the game. Will be a good test to see if our hitters can make adjustments.
  22. This feels like one of those games where you bet the over on every runs category thinking it will be a 9-6 game and then these guys pitch out of their minds to burn you. I don't know why, but I'm thinking we win this one 4-3.
  23. I have a feeling Robertson ends up in Washington when it's all said and done. Their pen needs help. Badly. Basically the only missing piece to that puzzle. I would love to trade for him, but not for Gordon. I like Robertson, but not that much.
