  1. Sorry if this has already been mentioned in this thread, but has anyone heard anything new on his chances of being suspended or when it might happen?
  2. Man, it would have been cool to sign Darvish. But, realistically, are the Twins ever going to sign an ace (or trade for one) without disgustingly overpaying? We can ALWAYS hope...but chances are slim. More than likely, the only way we come up with an ace is through the farm system. Berrios, Lynn, Santana would give us 3 border line 2/3's. Odorizzi gives us a nice 4. We have decent competition for the 5th spot this year and our young guys will solidify the rotation in the next couple of years. Things could be much, much worse. Having a decent to potentially really good pen helps as well.
  3. Liriano and Brett Anderson are still out there...seems like a signing we would make.
  4. I have former players that are on that CSUB squad!
  5. Interesting thought, but changing someone's swing can take a LONG time. I can see this taking more effect to young prospects in the minors. Guys that have been around a while might not adjust well/fast or want to change their swing.
  6. Wasn't sure where to post this but just some food for thought: Ohtani is trying to become the first 2-way star since Babe Ruth. Ohtani is 23. 100 years ago, Babe Ruth was 23.
  7. Saturday 2/17 Two signings will be announced: R. A. Dickey 2 years/12 mil Edinson Volquez 1 year/9 mil
  8. I am going to sound like a broken record...many of you are underestimating Lynn and Cobb. They are really solid 3's. I agree with you that we need a front line guy. However, we are going to be lucky if one of, let alone both, Gonsalves/Romero are as good as Lynn or Cobb. Three's don't grow on trees. I guess I look at Gonsalves and Romero as 4/5 guys and will be pleasantly surprised if they are any better than that.
  9. This is why guys like Archer are going to cost so much in trades...
  10. https://www.mlb.com/news/yu-darvish-signs-with-cubs/c-266253950 This article says the Dodgers offered a six year deal as well. We are not the only ones he passed up.
  11. Didn't the Dodgers offer a 6 year deal as well? It sounds like (who knows if it's true) we were one of a handful of teams that offered $100 million + contracts. I don't see how people are upset with that. He chose the Cubs over us and those other teams. I don't fault our FO and I don't fault Darvish for going the Cubs. Why wouldn't you want to? That being said, we better get on it and sign a FA pitcher or two, or this is going to be a tough year.
  12. Are you really saying you would want Gibson over Lynn, Cobb or Arrieta for this year and beyond?
  13. A few things here: * I doubt anyone gives Darvish 7/175. * People are waaay too hopeful on our young pup AAA and AA pitchers to make an impact this year. * Don't people think we can do better than having Gibson as our #5? * People are underestimating Lynn and Cobb, who are really solid 3's. * I wouldn't mind signing Vargas or Tillman to a one year contract to be our #5, IF we also sign one of the top 4 FAs.
  14. I wouldn't mind throwing some dollars at Todd Frazier...can play 1st or 3rd with good power and a good glove. Seems like a good dude as well. Are these FA going to sign? Holy smokes.
  15. I'm guessing that pitching at Target Field is easier than pitching in Arlington. I'm also guessing that our divisional foes have lineups that are easier to pitch against than nearly any other division. I could see him putting up solid numbers for three years and "OK" numbers for the last two years of a five year contract. I'm also agreeing with those of you who want to sign Darvish AND make a trade for Archer. I would give up Lewis as long as the rest of the package wasn't too painful. Getting one of them versus getting both of them might very well be the difference between making the playoffs and making noise in the playoffs. I am ok with this rotation: Darvish Archer Santana Berrios Gibson/Mejia/Gonsalves To me, the juice would absolutely be worth the squeeze. Probably not going to happen. But squeeze away Twins FO!
  16. How would you rank the Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Rockies and D-Backs offenses compared to AL teams? Lynn pitched well against all of them last year (he also had 2 QS against the Red Sox). Don't get me wrong, I would rather have Darvish than Lynn and/or Cobb. But at the same time, people are selling them short. I think both Lynn and Cobb are borderline 2/3 guys, not 4/5 guys.
  17. Thanks for that. Wow, I guess they do have the money. In regards to their OF surplus, I guess they are used to Braun missing 1/3 of the games every season as well.
  18. True. Just seems like a lot of dollars to me.
  19. I love the trade for Yelich for Mil, but I'm not understanding the Cain signing. They definitely have enough OF now! As others have said, maybe they will pair them together in a trade for Archer. What I am thinking though, is that the signing of Cain means that they are out of contention for Yu. This makes me slightly happier.
  20. I'm guessing they saw the 19-1 record and are saying he won't have that much success in the bigs. But they probably should have chose someone else...
  21. Agreed. Fantastic player-one of the most underrated of all time. Walker and Sheffield deserve a bit more love as well.
  22. http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/85136/why-does-everybody-love-vlad-guerrero-so-much I really hope Vlad gets in-what a story and what a player. Here's a brief bit on him from ESPN. I have a former college coach who played with him briefly in the Expos organization. He told me a few stories, but this one stands out the most. Even as an 18 year old, Vlad had an absolute cannon. They were practicing one particular morning, and the outfielders were throwing home. There was moisture on the ground, and his throw skipped a bit on the catcher. Long story short, it hit him in a bad spot and cracked his cup.
  23. If I am in my early 30's and get offered more per year on a shorter contract (lets say 33 compared to 25) and I am able to pitch in a ballpark of my choice, it is something I would consider.
  24. Also, if you look at the teams supposedly in the running, most of the ballparks are hitter-friendly...cubs/brewers/rangers. Maybe he would sacrifice 2 years of contract for not being in the spotlight and/or playing in a pitcher-friendly park. I'm fairly certain 100 million would be enough to get by the rest of your life, even if you didn't have another "big" payday.
