  1. I wanted to resurrect this thread because of an interesting conversation I heard on MLB Now this morning. They talked about: A-Miller coming in in the 7th against us recently, picking up the biggest outs of the game...getting away from the "my closer only pitches the 9th inn" idea. Nice work Francona. B-How often a starting pitcher struggles, yet a manager tries to get them to go 5 innings to give them a chance to earn a win. C-Doing away with the win stat all together. I don't think the 3-3inn pitchers per game will happen any time soon, but I do see the game changing and evolving in the next year or two. Hopefully more managers start doing what Francona did more often, including whoever ours is.
  2. Does Polanco's approach and swing remind anyone of a lighter hitting Cano?
  3. You're probably right-I'm just hoping a contending playoff team will get desperate and give up a prospect in the 7-15 range if he gets hot for a month.
  4. Here's to hoping Plouffe comes back healthy and hitterish. Headley has been ice cold for them Yankees and I would love to deal Plouffe for someone like Domingo Acevedo (their #7 prospect, 6' 7", throws 96-100 regularly and has hit 103). I'm dying to see Sano play 3rd every day and get some value for Plouffe(Nolasco/Milone also).
  5. Pedro is a little shorter and has ridiculously large hands...which is why his change-up was maybe the best of all time. But awesome comp! Going to be fun tonight-this is definitely the most excited I've been to see a Twin's pitcher since...maybe Liriano?
  6. In a couple of years the Twins are going to find themselves in a wonderful predicament. They are going to have an over-abundance of starting pitching. But the obvious question is, who will be shown the door or be in the pen? Berrios and Meyer will be up this year. Gonsalves and Stewart might be up the end of next year. Jay and Jorge are probably looking at 2018. Hughes - signed through '19 Santana - club option '19 Gibson - Arb. after this year Duffey - club control for awhile Milone - FA after this year, probably will be gone. Nolasco - club option '18 May - Staying in the pen? Will Meyer and Jay start or be in the pen? We don't know yet, but they are both showing promise/potential to start. 2017: Hughes, Santana, Gibson, Duffey, Nolasco, Berrios & Meyer 2018: Same list but add Gonsalves, Stewart, Jay and Jorge What moves would you guys make? Who's in and who's out? I'm hoping we trade Milone and/or Nolasco this year. I'm also guessing that May will turn into the 7th inning guy after our minor league fire-ballers come up (I think they will be better than May). Gonsalves and Stewart will be our 4th and 5th guys and Jay will be our closer. Duffey and Jorge also to the pen, being the long guys.
  7. Not to mention he is one of the main leaders in the clubhouse. Seems to have a Torii type personality.
  8. Not sure how much merit you can put into the Pablo for Shields talk, but if that happens and Shaw is not playing well I could definitely see this as a landing spot for Plouffe. Maybe a Plouffe/Nolasco for a couple B prospects and they pay some of Ricky's salary. Sorry to get off subject too much. I haven't seen any games this spring. How has Park looked running the bases? Fairly quick/competent or is he a stick in the mud? ( I know that's not why they signed him, just curious)
  9. Great seeing Hobson in their for the Jays. I coached against him when he played high school ball-nice kid. Can anyone please give me an update on how he's looked?
  10. Here we go Twinkies, last second moves that push us into the playoff hunt. We trade Milone and Nolasco to the Dodgers and they agreed to pay half of his salary. They lost Brett Anderson and Ricky pitched well for them. We use that money to help take a flier on Cliff Lee and sign Byrd-both for 1 year deals. Berrios comes up the second we have that extra year of control on him. Santana Gibson Hughes Berrios Lee (or bullpen and start May) p.s. I promise this is the last time I will bring up Marlon Byrd!
  11. Austin Jackson to the White Sox- 1 year 5 million. Nice deal for them.
  12. A bit of a random topic here, but I wanted to get your opinions on this. It seems less and less rare that when a player gets traded to another team he finds out through twitter, Sports Center, a text from a friend, etc. rather than the team's GM or manager telling them first. How pissed would you be if you found out in one of those ways (especially if the general public found out before you)? Shouldn't these logistics be changed? Or does this just mean "don't let the door hit you on the way out," after a team is happy they traded someone they ultimately didn't want?
  13. Man, their bullpen is going to just be awful the first 30 games! On the fantasy baseball side of things, this throws a an interesting twist into where you draft him. Where do you guys draft him? How much do you spend in a $260 auction draft?
  14. I wanted Benintendi badly-and the Red Sox picked him with the next pick. I hope he fizzles out and Jay shines, but here's what he hit at low A ball. I have a feeling he turns out to be a 20/20 guy who strikes out about the same amount as he walks. All that being said, I hope Jay starts and he and Berrios lead our rotation for 5 years. POS G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG OPS E OF 19 74 17 26 5 0 4 16 43 10 9 3 2 .430 .581 .351 1.011 1 sorry for the sloppy stat line!
  15. Yes. Have been waiting for them to-doesn't really make much sense. No complaining here though!
  16. He may get a chance to (potentially-just speculation) play 4 different positions there...OF, SS, 3B and 2B. If he can prove himself playing any number of those positions competently, and hit close to 20 bombs and 15 stolen bases, he'll set himself up nice for his next contract.
  17. Thanks for that list, BGB...interesting stuff. Desmond signs for 1 year 8 mil today. Talks of him playing OF. Sounds like a good deal for TEX.
  18. (PART II) STILL a lot of names out there. We definitely have some stubbornness and hard-balling going. Anyone remember good players that have lasted this long or longer in the past without signing?
  19. I have a lot of the same thoughts. Would love to see Buxton and Rosario at the top by the end of the year...a ton of speed and extra base potential. I wouldn't mind Dozier hitting cleanup though, and putting Park 6th so he doesn't have so much pressure on him his first year. Here's my end of the year lineup: Buxton CF Rosario LF Sano RF Dozier 2B Mauer 1B Park/Arcia DH platoon Plouffe Sukuki/Murphy C platoon Escobar
  20. I'm ok with having a little power/depth/veteran leadership off the bench. He might sign for more-that's just what I would sign him for if he doesn't sign elsewhere.
  21. Beat me to it-my thoughts exactly. The Twins are a borderline playoff team...we need every win we can get!
  22. Trust me, I want the young OFs to do as well as anyone. I just think it's worth 1 year/3 mil for a little insurance policy.
  23. thanks for the info.
  24. As much as I would like to think Buxton will do well in spring training and take the reigns at the beginning of the year, there is a very really possibility he will spend time at AAA. Rosario should be fine but nobody knows how the Sano project will work. Arcia? Who knows? Santana? Who knows? Kepler probably won't be around right away. There is a ton of potential for our OF, but it might take a minute to come to fruition. A 1 year cheap deal on either Venable or Bryd gives us a little insurance. Byrd was supposed to be done a few years ago but continues to hit 15-20 hrs wherever he goes. Venable would be able to hold his own as well until Buxton/Kepler are ready. If we start the year with Rosario/Buxton/Sano, great...but having Byrd or Venable as our 4th option makes me feel a lot better than a lot of our other options (unless Arcia starts off hot, which I'm not holding my breath on).
  25. Holy schnikies - pitchers and catchers report today. There are still a lot of names out there-Desmond, Jackson, Rios, Fowler, Gallardo and Alvarez are the headliners. Most of them will get a decent last second contract, but some of them might have to "settle" for a 1 or 2 year contract on the cheap. Who would you like to sign at a discount bin price and what would you pay for them? here's my shopping cart: Marlon Byrd or Will Venable - 1 year 3 mil (I know we have options at OF, but one of these guys would make me feel a lot better) Breslow or Coke - 1 year 1 mil Cliff Lee - 1 year 3 mil (if he passes his medical, why not take a flier-there was a thread on this already)
