  1. Thanks for posting this. I'm anxious to see if DIRECTV offers the single team package-it says they aren't obligated to, but it would sure be nice!
  2. Jay wasn't a bad pick. Lefty that throws gas and good makeup-I hope things work out for him and he can become a solid starter. That being said, I was not impressed when we passed up on Andrew Benintendi. Too many OFs or not, this guys is a stud...20/20, .300 potential. What can you do?
  3. I like McGee a lot, but he's also turning 30 this yearand coming off a major injury (that being said, he looked good last year when he came back). Dickerson-also coming off injuries-but can definitely be a solid every day OF for them. I guess it is tough to gage these Rockies until they play elsewhere. I would just have an everyday player with some upside over a reliever, but that's just me.
  4. Dickerson dealt for Mcgee...2 other pitchers involved. Nice move for the Rays.
  5. I like the idea of signing Austin Jackson to a 1 year deal...if he's willing.
  6. Has Detroit just passed KC? Maybe. They've spent more money-but I like their moves a lot more. Like I said before, I would much rather spend a few more million on Upton than Gordon (22 vs. 18/yr). Also like Zimmerman for 5 and 110 much more than Kenney at 5 and 70. Det. is going to be very good if Miggy/V-Mart/Verlander stay healthy. If not, a very expensive .500 team, but have to give them credit for trying before their window is up. Here's how I think the division will play out, but very even division! DET KC MN CLE CHI
  7. Parra signs with the Rockies. Either they are about to trade someone or put the Cargo at 1st base.
  8. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/161622456/lazaro-armenteros-eligible-for-free-agency Is this guy worth throwing some money at? He sounds like an intriguing prospect, and with a handful of other MLB teams out of the bidding war, maybe we would have a chance? Or is this the kind of guy that ends up in a large market no matter what?
  9. Do you honestly think Gordon and Upton are that close offensively? Realistically, Gordon might hit .275 with 15 HR/60 RBI. Upton has potential to hit 30+ HRs depending on which stadium he lands. (I know you already said Gordon doesn't hit HRs like Upton, but how do you think they are close offensively?)
  10. I am probably wrong, but I can't see them getting that much. 4 for 80-85 is my prediction for Upton.
  11. Obviously a nice player-but seems like a lot of money for age 32-35 seasons...and for someone with not a huge offensive game. But hey, the royals keep winning. Loyalty is nice to see also. I'd just rather have Upton for a few million more.
  12. First of all, a lot of people last year praised them for the Shark/Robertson/Melky deals. I was not one of them (although Robertson is a lot better than I thought he was). Right now, it just seems like they are middle of the road. If they signed Cespedes and 1 more quality pitcher, then I like this trade a lot better. Until then, to me it just looks like they are treading water and weakening their farm at the same time.
  13. Frazier is a really nice player...durable, likely to hit 30 HRs and play solid defense. But are the White Sox really this close to being a contender? The 3 prospects they traded away might not be "great" prospects but they are very solid. They may have just weakened their future for...what? Finishing middle of the pack?
  14. I know we already have too many starters. I know that we need bullpen help. I know that Cliff Lee hasn't pitched for a long time. That being said, would you give him $5 million guaranteed for 1 year? It seems to me it would be worth the risk. He could also help mentor the young guys, ala KG/Andre Miller. It would also allow Gibson and Berrios to be really good 4/5 starters. You're looking at 5 starters who will chew up a lot of innings (potentially)...which means the bullpen will be (hopefully) less used. Hughes Santana Lee Gibson Berrios Perkins/Jepsen/May late innings. Obviously the main 3. We still need a quality lefty. Nolasco/Milone/Duffey would have to be in the pen too unless we could deal them. Feel free to rip away...
  15. I could sure go for a can of Lucroy and a frosty cold Grain Belt. Seriously though, let's go get him and our lefty Smith. Good way to end the meetings.
  16. A lot of good arguments here. I found myself going back and forth with how I feel about this. Ultimately this is what I think: The chances of Nolasco helping us be a better team is slim. The chances of Shields helping us be a better team is pretty good. Also, many of you are saying the only way he opts out is if he has a great year. Why can't he have an "ok" year and not like it in MN? He could easily opt out and go for a 1 or 2 year contract worth close to 15-20 million/yr to someone like the Yanks/Angels/Dodgers. The chances of us getting a good year from him, getting rid of Nolasco and getting a comp. 1st is pretty decent I'd say. Do I think San Diego does it straight up? No.
  17. I also wouldn't want to give up Berrios in the deal for him, and I understand he isn't a "true" ace (at least maybe not to the level of Kershaw/Fernandez/Price etc). The A's only have 1 top-100 prospect. Maybe we could strike a deal with them without Berrios. He's given up basically a .220 ave and a 1.1 whip for his career. That's not too far below elite status. I don't see him falling off any time soon.
  18. Not sure if this is in another thread or not, but the Chapman deal is being delayed because of an issue he had with his gun. Are they talking about his left arm? Does he need Tommy Gun...I mean, Tommy John? (not trying to poke fun at the domestic abuse aspect, just couldn't resist). We'll see if the Dodgers pull out of the deal or not. The league is staying out of the decision and leaving it up to the teams involved. Maybe he'll be going elsewhere.
  19. thanks you guys! Much appreciated - you have to take it easy on us Californians...we're sensitive ya know. Would love to get to a game in Anaheim again-sounds cool.
  20. Obviously it sounds like Fernandez's price tag is quite high, and chances are we won't give up the prospects needed to get him. How much cheaper do you guys think Gray would be? Would love having an ace next to Berrios...and the A's are always willing to deal. Just seems like you have to strike when the iron is hot-we have the prospects and there are aces out there. Between Fernandez, any of the met's aces and Gray, I would love to land one of them for the next few years. Is this in the Twins DNA to do this or am I dreaming?
  21. Love talkin Twins...love geeky baseball talk. This seems like a great site with a lot of good people. Thanks for all of your insights! Moved from MN to CA so this is a nice way to feel at home.
  22. whoops sorry about that! thanks for the heads-up. on a side note, anyone want to welcome Grant Belfour back to the family?
  23. Any of Sipp/Bastardo/Matusz would be awesome, but we'll see what kind of dough they are demanding. We absolutely need a shut down lefty, like many of you had mentioned. As far as Rodney goes, I can't say I'd be disappointed if we signed him to a cheap 1 year deal but I would rather take fliers on guys like Cook, Cishek and O'Flaherty...think they still have some good innings in them.
  24. Chapman is joining the back of the Dodgers bullpen. Was hoping we would take a shot at him, but he probably isn't worth the price for one year of service (at least that's what I'm telling myself to feel better). Not sure on the prospects they gave up to get him yet. Talk about a nasty 1-2 punch!
  25. I like John Smoltz. He is a fairly intelligent human being, and said yesterday "when Jose is healthy, he is the best pitcher in the game." If we have a chance at him, without giving up Buxton and Sano, you HAVE to do it...worried about elbow or not. I'm guessing Berrios would have to be included like many of you have said. So here are my 2 offers trying to make most of you happy: #1: Berrios, Gordon, Stewart and ABW #2: Gonsalves, Kepler, Jay and a mid-level prospect Something tells me ABW's power would be attractive to Miami-and this allows us to keep our high OBP guy in Kepler to balance out our lineup. Whether or not they are high on Gordon is interesting since Dee is there but they may already have their SS of the future in Hech. Option 2 gives us Jose and Jose to lead our rotation for at least 3 years while not giving up the farm...although it would leave us a little barren LHP wise. Rotation including Fernandez, Santana, Hughes and Berrios isn't bad. We need an ace...go get him!
