  1. I'm really happy we didn't sign Chatwood. I hope we don't sign anyone else like him. I think we have enough 4/5 rotational options. If we want to move the needle we need to sign or trade for a 1-3 guy. I don't want to "just get" to the playoffs again. I want to make some noise.
  2. I was actually going to say the same-maybe even the Mariners bring back Ichiro for another part time year to help the transition.
  3. I would agree with you-if Kintzler had been a proven closer for at least a few years or if he was a bit younger. I think the move was in between buying and selling. We had other replacement options in our bullpen. Obviously it worked out ok...other guys had a chance to prove themselves in expanded roles and we got prospects, while making the playoffs. Hard to argue with any of that-and being able to sign him (Kintzler) back right now is just icing on the cake.
  4. I constantly went back and forth with Garver when I saw him in action. I would go from, "I don't think this guy can hit up here well enough," to, "man, this guy has such easy power to right field." I hope he at least gets a fair shot...but who else is going to take away his ABs besides Castro? Any other catchers on the rise or radar in FA? Do Wade's numbers and size/athleticism remind anyone else of Michael Brantley? Or am I way off here? Anyone know what he looked like in the minors?
  5. What makes you say he is a number 2 pitcher and not an ace? He might not be a top 10 pitcher in the game (although pretty damn close), but I'd say he's still an ace...
  6. Let's get a team going in Hawaii. Tell me you wouldn't want to see your team play the Hawaii Hoola Hoopers. Just kidding but seriously. Have the Carolinas ever been considered? Bad spot or good spot?
  7. That would be a fun outfield! Probably a few too many collisions though. As far as picking up another FA outfielder, I actually wouldn't mind a Carlos Gomez reunion on a cheap 1-2 year deal.
  8. Would love to get either of those guys...but I think they stay where they're at. Cobb might be easier to pry away since TB doesn't spend money, but I still think he stays.
  9. If we have to give up one of those 3, you still have to do it. We can GET to the playoffs. Hard to advance without an ace. Ervin and Jose are 2's.
  10. Is there a better time than right now to go after an ace in the trade market? * This team has proven it is good enough to get to the playoffs. * Most of our best players are young and getting paid close to nothing * We have a good list of prospects and can put together good packages teams will be interested in * We need a true ace REALLY bad * We have decent depth at most positions, and would even after trading 3-4 players * We're going to have several logjams at several different positions very soon I'd say it's time to pull the trigger. Go get DeGrom.
  11. I could see us going after a guy like Todd Frazier on a 1 or 2 year deal. Decent fielder with good power. If Sano needs time to ease his way back, Frazier can take over. I'm sure he could also play a little 1st base.
  12. I didn't get much sleep last night. Too excited. Read this thread and fell asleep for a short nap. Had a dream where I was on a roller coaster with Tom Petty and a goat (from a Zombie Zoo). We were drinking good bourbon. The Twin's bats were on fire and we free fell into Cleveland.
  13. Jeter made it sound very likely that Stanton will be gone, saying that the Marlins are about to make some very unpopular decisions. They've had seven straight losing seasons. I'm guessing he ends up a Yankee, and that NY gives up anything they have to to end up with a lineup anchored by Sanchez/Judge/Stanton. What are your thoughts? Does he get moved? Where does he go?
  14. Here would be my lineup for Tues. if Severino starts and Sano is playing: Dozier Mauer Polanco Rosario Kepler Buxton Sano Castro Escobar
  15. "Hide him" in the 7th/8th spot.
  16. you're probably right, but will be interesting to see.
  17. I'm going to get tier-ry-eyed on this one: Tier 1: Dozier/Rosario Tier 2: Mauer/Buxton Tier 3: Santana Tier 4: Sano/Polanco Very even. Should make a point system voting thread on this...
  18. In a one game WC, you take pitchers out the minute they get into trouble. It might end up looking something like this: Santana 3 1/3 IP Boshers 1/3 IP Berrios 2 IP Rogers 1 1/3 IP Hildenberger 2/3 IP Busenitz 2/3 IP Belisle 2/3 IP That being said, I would only have Santana and Berrios as the SPs on the roster. I don't trust Mejia at this point, even if he is lefty. * I would rather have Moya than Mejia
  19. I wonder how many of the players are "under the weather" this morning. Great timing for a morning game-classic!
  20. They have some big decisions to make. They have two awful contracts with Miggy's and Jordan Zimmerman's. Miggy is 34 and signed through '23 (with options for '24-'25) and will be making around $30 million/year. Zimmerman is 31 and is signed through 2020, making an average of around $23 million/year. Victor Martinez is 38 and will be making $18 million/year the next two years. Will/can they trade these guys in the off-season? They look to be in rebuild mode. They have issues.
  21. Yes, I know we control our own destiny. But right now, Texas is playing good ball and is probably our biggest threat. They play 3 games in Oakland, then 4 games to end the season vs. Oakland in Texas. We need the Matts (Olsen/Chapman/Joyce) to hit some bombs. I'm predicting that Texas goes 4-3 against the A's. But that might be hopeful.
  22. My first thought was "nope, not yet." But then I thought about what his numbers might be next year. If he goes for 20 home runs and 50 swipes, along with gold glove CF, his name is being mentioned. He might get 20 and 50. If he stays healthy and doesn't run through walls.
  23. I really hope they start extending our young players soon. I'm a big fan of what John Hart did with Manny, Loften, Baerga, etc. Start dishing out 6-8 year contracts for 20-40 million. I think we have seen Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario, Berrios enough to have faith in them. Have to keep Escobar for $4million. He can do too many things not to.
  24. I thought about this as well-it comes down to if the Tigers want to completely tear down and start over in the off-season. If they do, I'm guessing they would trade him to whoever gives them better prospects. If they think they are only a couple pieces away, then they won't trade him...especially to us.
  25. Royce Lewis. 3rd base. You can all say he is the best athlete on the field. But who is he going to replace?
