  1. Sano's slash stats outside that hot streak this year are .194 /.280 /.350 /.629
  2. I was merely justifying demoting/optioning Berrios. In hindsight it's easy for some of us to say he was not ready and/or he was not ready to cope with this much failure. Ryan saw him pitch his good game for Rochester. And the Twins needed a starter. Other than that we don't know the thought process. I thought this thread was about demoting Berrios. But I agree the Twins have no plan and I have never been a Twins apologist. Without knowing the backstory, Meyer was mishandled. I hope he's ready to come back soon. The Twins needed a 4th OF. They called up Kepler and sat him which is what 4th OF's do. Were you going to start him instead of Sano or Buxton or Rosario. The bad thing is that Kepler missed the reps needed to be ready to replace Rosario. But then again Arcia may have replaced Rosario. A lot of people on this board thought Buxton should play everyday in MLB because of his .500 BABIP in AAA last year or because he needed trial by fire. I thought he should start in AAA. They called up Polanco because they needed a bench MIF. Who was he going to start in front of? Dozier? Escobar? Plouffe? Nunez while he is hot? When three of those guys are good to go, it makes sense that Polanco sits. The Twins got lucky with Santana in 2014 and look what happened. They got lucky with Rosario in 2015 and look what's happening. Berrios is a different order of prospect and they hoped he would click. Maybe just as desperate but more basis for hope. He'll be back. And it won't be luck.
  3. Meyer should rejoin Wings' rotation on trip south http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/baseball/blogs/extra-bases/2016/05/16/meyer-should-rejoin-wings-rotation-trip-south/84449392/
  4. Berrios only had 3 starts in AAA this year. He only demonstrated good control in 1. Let him hone his control in AAA.
  5. Mr. Pint, you were considered by some to be the best RHSP in this draft but you have fallen to us (the Twins) at number #15. You tell us you have a deal with the Padres for $5M. We [have added our entire 5% allowance over our pool amount ($399,860) to our slot ($2,817,100) to] come up with our offer of $3,216,960. You might think you are leaving $1.8M on the table. Really you have a choice between signing with us or going to LSU or going to a junior college and hope you don't turn into Matt Harrington or Kyle Funkhouser . And if you don't sign with us, we get the #16 pick next year in a deeper draft plus our #2 and we'll have more draft pool money than we know what to do with.
  6. Let's remember that there's a lot more room to go underslot at 1-1 than there is at 1-15. Let us also remember that many of us were delighted that Buxton was there at 1-2. Some of us had those two at the top of our draft boards and couldn't lose.
  7. You do know his BABIP this year is.429. Last year it was .295
  8. I am all for sending Buxton down (and said so last fall). But that doesn't mean signing a mediocrity like DMurphy. Just play Kepler and Arcia more. Unless the Twins plan on demoting another player as well. Even then DMurphy is not part of the solution.
  9. Last year Tonkin had a better WHIP, K/9 and xFIP than Pressly. I'm just saying.
  10. From 2005-11, our draft classes yielded Tonkin, Gibson, Dozier, O'Rourke, and Rosario + Hicks and Revere. And with the exception of Sano (and Polanco and Kepler), our international signings have amounted to what? Only 1 starting pitcher in all of those years. No wonder the Twins have been signing Hughes and Nolasco and Santana.
  11. Not to mention balancing. And realligning. And I can't help but think something more than that.
  12. That's not entirely fair when you are one of 30 teams and mid-market to boot.
  13. He added Buxton's one game in October. Buxton's .289 OBP is neither tenable nor MLB ready. Don't be confused by his Iso P in a small sample size. He struck out in 25.5% of those plate appearances and walked in only 5.9%. What is going to magically change in this off-season?
  14. Buxton is not ready. Sano should not be in the OF. Rosario is not a CF, especially when flanked by Sano and Arcia. Kepler is not ready. Arcia is OK (at least to give a shot). Walker is a AAAA or AA DH. I would rather have Ligares as 4th OF than Santana (who sucks and is somewhat redundant with Nunez on board).
  15. As of now the Twins have 8 candidates for the starting rotation in 2016. They are (alphabetically) Berrios, Duffey, Gibson, Hughes, May, Milone, Nolasco, and Santana. Your assignment is to rank them so as to have the best rotation to win in 2016. This is not about who should be in the bullpen or how to dispose of certain candidates. Simply about identifying the best rotation to win in 2016. Explain. You can have a second ranking if you think the Twins should use 2016 to set up long term success.
  16. If you don't like 3 year deals for relievers, why wouid you consider extending Jepsen?
  17. An 8-man bullpen is unconscionable at the start of the season. I wouldn't be afraid of 2-year deals of $4-6M for certain relievers like Madson, Sipp, Bastardo and I wouldn't be afraid to sign 2 or three. I wonder if the RP market isn't too hot for that.
  18. Why do you guys do this? He didn't ask what the Twins would do.
  19. No MLB team will give Pinto a 25-man roster spot. Sign him to a MiLB contract (with premium, with or without NRI) and let's see what we have. Vargas has an option. Santana in CF and Sano in RF sounds icky. And it means you have to sign another OF capable of playing CF. Shane Robinson, anyone.
  20. Of which 40-man conundrum do you speak? The Twins have 6 vacant spots on the 40-man roster now and can easily create 6 more.
  21. Who is the better defensive first baseman today - Mauer or Sano? Who figures to be the better defensive first baseman this time next year - Mauer or Sano?
  22. Sometimes you send a player to the AFL to see if you should protect him. Having said that, I have no doubt the Twins will protect him.
  23. Has anyone noted that Danny Santana has only played one game at 3B in the minors and that was in 2010. If the Twins trade Plouffe, who would be the backup 3B? Escobar? Nunez? Hermmann? I could see Santana becoming a super utility type. Except he only has played two games in LF (also in 2010) and none in RF. I think Danny needs to focus on SS this year (and backing up CF if/when Buxton is in the minors). Escobar is more versatile and has less need to focus as long as he's not played in OF. I would make Escobar the regular SS, but have him back up 2B and 3B with Santana filling in at SS.
  24. Greinke's average FB = 91.8 MPH. Greinke's average CH = 88.5 MPH Felix Hernandez's average FB = 91.8 MPH (92.4 last year) Felix Hernandez's average CH = 88.1 MPH (89.3 last year)
