    It seems like we are quibbling on the particpation rate, but whatever. Even your link has baseball at #3 in raw numbers. Furthermore, the baseball decline in the study you cite is less than the % decline seen in basketball and football, the two other major sports. My point was that baseball participation rates are strong amongst youth and that is a good indicator for the future of baseball.

    Baseball needs to rid itself of the pace of play agenda. Baseball is what it always has been and we are getting dangerously close to damaging the integrity of the game. Baseball has either the 1st or 2nd most participants in youth sports in this country. It will survive and thrive.

    I am agnostic when it comes to robot umps. I guess it depends if the bad call went against or for the Twins. MLB needs to get rid of instant replay if they don't want robot umps. I have always contended that camera angles are a big factor in whether a baseball call is deemed wrong or right by instant replay. Why aren't the same issues relevant with replay as they are with robo umps. From the link, "In the example below, you can see two views of the exact same pitch. From the mound view the pitch looks to be a ball, but a closeup shows it was a strike just barely on the edge of the zone...."

    It is the right decision. Our society has evolved beyond this type of logo. Now, get rid of the nickname for the Cleveland baseball team and the Washington, DC football team. Some things are wrong and need to be changed.

    This must be a case of McMahon's ego getting in the way of his brain. The logistics of how this could possibly work are head scratching. So, the fake wrestling guy is going to promote family friendly, less violent football? The XFL failed the first time and it was a good idea then so not sure how this is going to get people's attention. To succeed in 2020 they are going to really need to come up with something special.

    The Twins put the building blocks in place in 2017 to make a run at the Indians. It might be more realistic to the Twins to win the AL Central in 2019 as opposed to 2018.

    It is a good time for Perk to hang up the cleats. I feel if he would have continued he would have been a shell of his former self and it would have been painful to watch. As far as the Twins hiring Perk in the front office in the future - when is it too many former Twins being hired? I think we are nearing the desired limit as I thought Falvine was going to bring an entirely new perspective.

    Cool quotes. It was interesting what Rowson said about Buxton, "...go out there and be an athlete and do the best you can. Don’t think about it, just go out there and react.” Sometimes these guys just need to go out and play baseball every day, get the needed experience, and progress. Now, let's do the same with Kepler in 2018 against left handed pitching.

    Jack Morris and Chuck Knoblauch need to be added to the Twins Hall of Fame. The only Washington Senator I know is Walter Johnson and obviously if the Twins were to recognize Senator great then Walter should be in the Twins Hall of Fame. I like how the Twins do it now - they don't deny the history with the Senators yet do not take accomplishments by the Senators franchise and openly promote them as their own. I would add Frank Viola and Johan Santana as retired Twins numbers. Future Twins Hall of Famers - Joe Mauer and Brian Dozier. There are many others playing in 2018 that are early in their careers and would just be speculation at this point (Sano, Kepler, Buxton, Eddie Rosario, Berrios)

    We could get Souhan to write another hatchet job and investigate the eating habits of Rosario by using his insider's access. Or, possibly, these are typical fluctuations and Rosario hasn't really lost a step. The other players his age have also seen fluctuations, this is simply a statistical anomaly and Rosario will probably bounce back.

    Well, if you are willing to sit in the upper deck then it is more affordable. Or, go early in the season when it is colder and ticket prices are cheaper. Last season, the extra value games were about $10 each. You can bring your own food into Target Field and take the train so you could get a family of four taken care of for about $50 total, or about the same cost as going to a movie. The game is propped up by TV money and until that dries up I don't see your issues getting resolved. There are other options such as stubhub.com and even scalpers where you can score cheap tickets. I have scored $5 tickets from scalpers in the lower level. No, you will not have prime seats or sit in a suite following these cheaper options, although you will probably get in the gate for a small amount of money.

    I am with you that the ballpark experience at Target Field is not geared toward families or youth. They finally put a little play area out in left field last year. Other than that, there is really nothing for families. On the other hand, there are plenty of places to hang out and drink overpriced craft beer and not pay attention to the game. As far as the millenials not caring about MLB or the Twins, I have experienced that as well in the workplace. Sometimes I feel like an absolute dinosaur since I like rock and roll and baseball.

    Baseball still ranks 1st or 2nd in the US as far as number of youth participant. We need to trust that the special game of baseball will continue to thrive. Yes, there is a lot of work to be done to ensure baseball stays healthy. Yes, there is much entertainment competition among the young people and it is difficult to get them interested in a 'slow' sport such as baseball when they are used to staring at a flashing screen providing instant entertainment all day. As far as pricing families out of the market. I don't think baseball is doing it any more than any other of the major sports. With the abundance of baseball games and deals for the consumer willing to do even a minimal amount of research, there are plenty of deals to be had. The extra value Twins games for the 2017 season in the family section were $10 and included a hot dog and soda. Do we remember the 33 games for $99 deal the Twins had at the start of 2017? Baseball will survive and thrive.

    Amen. Jack Morris deserves the Hall of Fame induction. There are no qualifiers or disclaimers - Jack was one of the best of his time and came through when the spotlight was brightest.

    The greatest Twin ever. Without him, this franchise would probably have no titles and would be a laughingstock. Kirby meant so much to the Twins, Minnesota sports fans, Minneapolis, and the entire state of Minnesota. Then the fall from grace. So is life.

    I liked his face and reaction when that ball girl made a great play on a foul ball last season. He seems like a fun guy to be around and to have in the clubhouse.

    It makes me want to really appreciate the game and how special all MLB players are. Also, I love going to the independent St. Paul Saints and watching those guys truly play for the love of the game. Baseball is the greatest game and we should really soak it in and enjoy the games.
