  1. Too many good choices for me to pick one.
  2. After a 2/3 starting pitcher, my next pick up would be a primary DH.
  3. Tendering Gibson is a no brainer. He's still cheap, and if push comes to shove, tradeable. No way you can count on May even giving you 100 innings.
  4. If we are going to get 2 pitchers better than Berrios, might as well get 1 hitter better than Sano.
  5. Santana has shown absolutely no signs of decline. I look for him to be with us 2 more seasons. Hard to forget we had members wanting to trade Dozier and Santana so we could continue the rebuild until the 2020's.
  6. Before I spend big money on relief pitching, I would start think Longoria contracts. The walls won't come tumbling down, as long as we call retain the core of four.
  7. I'm happy with our position players, including our bench. Yes, bring back Gimenez. I would not spend much on the pen, because I believe we finally have the numbers going forward. To me, it's a no brainer to bring back Belisle. It's going to be won or lost on whether we can trade for a 2/3 starting pitcher, using our deep, and if not currently, soon to be highly regarded farm system. We basically need only the one player. Board scapegoat Terry Ryan, left us the rest and it's going to get better as his drafts continue to mature.
  8. Doesn't surprise me at all the list is short. A number of times this season, it was mentioned the other team's pen only had 1 lefty. As a side note, 3 of the 4 arms our FO picked up at the deadline are lefties.
  9. You can say the same thing about every manager there has ever been. I personally felt he did a very good job protecting Mejia this season.
  10. Kohl Stewart is 10 times the prospect Dereck Rodriguez is, and Jorge and Slegers for that matter. Romero will most likely end up in the pen. If Santiago would look at a one year make good deal I would consider it. He had never been on the DL until this season. He's better than all but a handful of FA's. My first choice would be opening up the farm and making a trade. Flash Romero, Gonsalves, Gordon, or even one of our young but highly rated SS's. No reason to wait, our window appears to be 4-5 years starting now.
  11. I like Mejia, but I also feel it's premature to include him in the core. I hope a rookie starting pitcher does well every other game or so, and Mejia has done quite a bit better than that. His debut season was better than Gibson, May, Meyer, and Berrios. Only Duffey performed better. I'm leaning toward having Mejia and Gonsalves fight it out for the 5th spot, and the loser being first man up.
  12. I was shocked at how much Sano improved defensively at 3B this season. I referred to him as Brooks Sano last season. Let him play wherever he wants and yes, the rule of thumb is you would much prefer not to DH a young player exclusively. Kudos for whoever worked with Sano on his defense.
  13. No one was waiting for Perkins, and Hughes has the one problematic contract. I wasn't crazy on the idea the new regime was going to spend at least half the season evaluating what we have, but it makes a lot more sense now. Not that we are not going to be looking to make some deals this off season, but for the first time since we started the rebuild in 2012, we have respectable pitching depth going forward. BA had a rather extensive article circa 2009 or 2010 which concluded it takes a mid-market team a minimum of 6 years for a complete rebuild. Our favorite team is right on schedule.
  14. Both of our catchers have been very good this year. When advanced metrics truly become advanced, a component for team chemistry and individual leadership will be added.
  15. Vargas won't be back, and I'd be very surprised if they keep Garver over Gimenez. I don't believe they trust Garver defensively, and Gimenez is a proven winner. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
  16. Berrios had the worst rookie debut of any starting pitcher in the history of the franchise.
  17. No you read it correctly. The handling of Moya was a no-brainer. Let him pitch in the play-offs and then bring him up to get his feet wet. The search committee didn't hire anyone off this board.
  18. Kind of like board favorite Vargas. The difference is Gibson will be in The Show for at least the next few years and has trade value.
  19. Board favorite Vargas also.
  20. No doubt Gibson will be back next season. A 4/5 is worth 6-8 million. Gibson is cheap and has trade value.
  21. I have posted this before, let me post it again. LaVelle wrote an article in the Strib in May about how all of our best players are TR's guys. He specifically mentioned Sano and Polanco, because TR was in charge of international scouting during the Bill Smith era. I know I'm not the only member on the board who reads the sports page.
  22. No it's not, and no he wasn't. Duffey beat him out plain and simple. You really believe Berrios, who months later would have the worst rookie starting pitching debut in the history of the franchise, would have made us better in the hunt? I've heard the same nonsense about Alex Meyer if he had been brought up on 2014. If they are not ready, they are not ready.
  23. The old regime took a lot of crap on this board, but they are certainly shining now.
  24. I'd bring back Belisle in a heartbeat. He's been our best pitcher since mid-June.
  25. No we didn't. We brought up Duffey in August. Did you really want to see Berrios crap the bed?
