  1. Bingo! I'll never get over how many members of the board still confuse free agency with Christmas. Free agency has evolved into the market of last resort.
  2. I don't recall this board ever liking a free agent move our favorite team has made. Hughes maybe the closest. There will be much unhappiness, unless we sign the most expensive item on the menu.
  3. Darvish is hardly strike 3. We're still in the early innings.
  4. It doesn't demonstrate anything. All kinds of top end arms still in the system. Patience is a virtue.
  5. This is simply not true and do you really believe you have the time and expertise necessary to judge our favorite team vs. the rest of the league? Easy to say, impossible to prove.
  6. Can you share specific examples with the board? Off hand, I can't think of one.
  7. Lloyds of London is a one time payment. When a player is done, and this is confirmed by medical professionals, then and only then do they stroke the pen.
  8. You don't break up a winning team, and Buxton and Sano are actually better chips. I like our favorite team's attitude just fine, it's yours that scares me. You can fantasize about building the '27 Yankees if you so choose, but good enough now is better than perfect later. It's hard to forget, you wanted to throw in the towel early in the season when we were still in first place.
  9. We have had winning records 2 of the past 3 years.
  10. The Astros had a 2 year head start. The Cubbies are a large market team, and it's very difficult for a mid-market team to compete with a large market team firing on all cylinders. I believe I read the Cubbies and our favorite team had idential records from 2012-2014. On a side note, look for the Cardinals to go into a full rebuild mode, well before our favorite team's next rebuild. One of the laws of baseball is, all mid-market teams must rebuild at some point in time.
  11. They are much more similar to Santana than Nolasco.
  12. I was disappointed for several days when they traded Garcia. I thought he was the right player, at the right time, for the right price. I thought they blinked, but rebounded very well, by bringing in 4 arms, 3 of whom are lefties. I'm still learning about the new regime.
  13. As we speak, Santana is a number 2. A workable definition of a 3, is one we trust to pitch in a playoff game. Santana is much better than that, therefore a 2. Berrios will show more ceiling in the future. Good enough now, is better than perfect later.
  14. The team doesn't need 2 top of the rotation arms though. Good enough now, is better than perfect later.
  15. This board was formed during the down cycle. Now that we're in the up cycle the board is starting to attract the best and the brightest.
  16. There is no reason to believe Sano and Polanco won't improve in their 2nd full season at the position.
  17. Every team in baseball has a farm system full of prospects that would slot in behind Santana. Doubtful our team or most teams, at this point in time, have the money to sign somebody who will slot in front of Santana. All we need to do is use our deep farm system to trade for a 2/3 type. No need to impair our future, lusting for a mythical ace. There may be 10-12 in all of baseball, and we are much better off using our resources on our 6 young stars. You can have a good rotation, without a mythical ace, which is the route we should take.
  18. The rebuild is over. Who said they are trying to get by on the cheap? Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I have no problem waiting until the hot stove season is over to decide. Also, when you have a farm system as deep and talented as ours to use as trade bait, why invest heavily in the market of last resort, which is what free agency has evolved into.
  19. This is really well done. TD just took a step forward.
  20. Not every pitcher is a strikeout pitcher, in fact most aren't. Judging anyone based on one metric, is always hazardous. He's 23, and was the consensus top high school pitcher in 2013, and not unlike Mauer, practically a world class athlete. I'm in no big hurry, let's see what the fat lady does.
  21. Stewart is far from a failed pick and Jay still has plenty of value as a power arm in the pen. I'm more than willing to wait for the fat lady.
