  1. If a Garver/Grandall pairing makes sense long-term, fine. But trading Cruz is a non-starter. You'd p1ss off almost everyone in the clubhouse and for what?
  2. That was my first thought, but if they suspected that, I don't think they would be coming out and saying natural causes. (A spider/snake bite would not be either.) Outside of some sort of un-diagnosed heart condition, there aren't a lot of natural causes for a 23 y/o with no known illnesses.
  3. At a minimum, Rhodes should be the 3rd or 4th CB. Waynes, Alexander, Hill and probably Hughes are all better than him. But Zim keeps starting him AND putting him on the other team's best WR. I don't get it. Ironically, this is the first year in 3-4 years that he hasn't missed multiple games with injury and left early in several others.
  4. I would trade Rosario if the return is decent. Under team control for 2 more years and I have zero interest in keeping him long term. Would Rasario and the #2 pitching prospect (start with a B, I won't try to spell it) be enough to get Syndergaard?
  5. Very sad. What could the natural causes be at 23?
  6. Polanco wasn't an All-star for his glove. I think the IF defense must be shored up. Long-term we are better off with Polanco at 2B or 3B. If we believe that Lewis is sticking at SS, signing a FA doesn't make sense. I don't know if Gordon can hack it or not, but I would like to give him a shot. If he fails you can always move Gonzalez to 3B and Arreaz and Polanco back to 2B and SS. I see no harm in at least giving Gordon a long look in Spring Training.
  7. If Terry Ryan was on here he would like this post so hard. Often the best trades/signings are the ones you don't make. That said, if you want to make an omelet or ever beat the Yankees, you have to break some eggs.
  8. Someone had to take the mantle when Mauer retired.
  9. I've never been a huge fan of watching Odo grind through 5 innings on 100 pitches. I guess I don't mind making him the QO, but I'm not that interested in giving him $45-50 million over 3 years. I'd extend the QO and if he declines, take the draft pick and spend the $ on Cole or Mad Baum etc. My preferred address for the rotation is make a deal for Syndergaard, take your best shot at Cole, and then take your best shot at Mad Baum if that fails. That still leaves the #4 spot open, but I'd rather fill that with Pineda for $8 million than Odo for $18.
  10. Get a deal done for Syndergaard (Rosario and the #2 pitching prospect whose name I can never spell). Make a run at Cole. If he balks, Mad Baum is a acceptable alternative.
  11. 1. 98 Vikings 2. 09 Vikings 3. 06 Twins-not so much losing to Oakland but from what could have been on 8/1 before Liriano and Radke's arms fell off 4.03 Gopher football Michigan game which cost them the Rose Bowl 5. 04 Twins I would rank this year behind the 2009 Twins as well.
  12. Total system failure. Bilateral system failure if you will.
  13. No one's asking him to start naming players and throwing them under the bus. But acknowledge the frustration the players and fans clearly felt.
  14. And Jack Morris would have been arrested for assaulting him on the mound. I think the only reason TK didn't take him out after the 9th was he was afraid they would throw down.
  15. Assuming you only have a 30% chance to win each game, the odds of losing 16 in a row is 3 in 1,000
  16. Collapse implies they were favored to win and failed. That didn't happen here.
  17. I get the frustration, but the notion that the fans being angrier would change anything management does is a stretch. Even in a play-off game, most of the 40,000 there are fairly casual fans who don't live and die with every at bat.
  18. I think $35 million/year for Cole is realistic. Might have to go to 6 years though. Why can't Gordon play SS? He hit .292 OPS .801 this year. His defense appears at least average. He may flop, but why can't he be given a shot? He'll be 24 and has 600 AAA at bats. It's time to $%% or get off the pot with him.
  19. Though they open with 7 straight games, which is unusual, typically, you only need a 5th starter 2-3 times in April. I believe Pineda will be eligible to return around May 10th. Assuming Dobnak wins the 5th starter job in Spring, he becomes the #4 and someone else (probably Smeltzer) makes 4-5 start. I assume they won't want to continue Graterol's clock for a few starts.
  20. I've not seen Gordon either, but his defensive stats show he's at least an average SS.
  21. If they don't somehow acquire a starter better than Berrios and a decent #3, Falvine should go elsewhere.
  22. Can you imagine TK or Bud Grant or Mike Zimmer saying that? I can't.
  23. Rocco says he's proud and not frustrated at all. Could he be any more tone deaf?
  24. Whatever you think of the Pohlad's, I'm quite certain they give Falvey a budget. He is not told what type of players he can and can't sign.
  25. $%^ you Didi. $%% you and the horse you rode in on.
