  1. If it's 4/$80 for Ryu or 3/$60 for Keuchel, give me Keuchel.
  2. If they had offered Wheeler 5/$125 or MadBaum $5/100 on day 1 of FA, I think they both would have taken it. You can't slow play everything, waiting for a "deal", especially when you're the Twins.
  3. It's going to take like 4/$80 to get him. They don't have any better options. I don't have a $%^ about the payroll situation in 2023 right now. They should do it, but they won't. And Kuechel's going to require close to the same.
  4. There's now way the Mets take that deal. I'd substitute Belezovic for Blankenship. Even then, I doubt they take it.
  5. The Twins love him and want him bad. But only for 3 years. A 4th year is a deal-breaker. Sorry.
  6. It may stink but it doesn't smell. Smell doesn't travel well in -30. That's why we can have a garbage burner right next to the stadium.
  7. That's massively overpaying him for his arbitration years and paying him to dollar for FA years. Pass.
  8. The top income tax rate in Minnesota is 9.85%, which it's been for years. That's only "sky high" compared the 6 states that have none. And this "Off-season of Twins excuses" is the first time I've ever heard anyone bring it up regarding MN teams and FA.
  9. I've been accused of having a Canadian accent in the South. I've also encountered someone who thought Minnesota and Wisconsin were really just one state. But actually thinking Minnesota is part of Canada? No.
  10. Playing in -30 degrees half the year and in an ugly Dome the other half? Who would sign up for that? They'd have to pay MadBaum $60 million/year and give him a private jet for his horses.
  11. I like it. Just not as our 2nd biggest move of the off-season.
  12. It's much worse than I realized. A frozen ice sheet with eskimos that most think is not even in the US (even though they've played here on the road and we have teams in every pro sport). I think contraction needs to be put back on the table.
  13. I'd be more generous upfront since we have lots of $ and no one to spend it on, and only try to get 2 years of FA. 2020: $12 million 2021: $12 million 2022: $12 million 2023: $14 million 2024: $16 million Total: 5 years/$66 million. If he plays out arbitration, he would make ~$22 million in those years, so he would have to get $22 million/year in FA to match this.
  14. I wasn't big on them getting Kimbrel, I would have preferred Keuchel. But I still think the point stands that if you want a guy that bad, walking away over an extra year is odd and something they have to get over.
  15. He's not going to take a discount. You over-pay him for his arbitration years (since we have $40 million we're apparently not going to spend) to get him to give you a year or two of FA for a discount. You could probably get him for 5/$60 million right now which would buy out 3 years of arbitration. He gets ~$8 million more this year and takes less in 2024 which is apparently the year we care most about.
  16. Exactly. This FO always seems to draw the line on the extra year. They want MadBaum and have been talking about him for months but that 5th year is just an absolute deal breaker. They were so IN on Craig Kimbrel, but that extra year was a deal breaker. Why must we forever hamstring the current team worrying about 2024?
  17. To the people saying "why would we want to be like the White Sox or Tigers?" they've both been to a World Series this century. The Tigers are in the mess their in because they went for it hard 2011-2013. But if I were a Tigers fan, I'd still be glad they did. They've managed the after-math poorly though.
  18. No one can truly "know" anything in this regard, but I'd be very surprised if he turned down an extra $15 million. We'll never know because we wouldn't even match the Arizona offer much less beat it.
  19. I'm tired of the "no one will come to MN" excuse. You could have had Keuchel with a competitive offer in June. You could probably have him now. You could have traded for Stroman or Minor at the deadline. All of these will probably require you to over-pay. Tough. Do it. Or admit that we can't ever compete and trade everyone within 2 years of FA.
  20. The tax thing is over-blown. It's never stopped the Cubs, White Sox or any CA team and they have higher taxes. 50% of your income is earned on the road. It's hurt the Blue Jays at times, but that's a combination of VERY high taxes and exchange rates at times. He wouldn't come here if our offer was equal to Arizona's. But if we'd offered 5/$100, he's probably a Twin.
  21. Only ~60% of his income would be earned in California and 15% still will be playing for the D-Backs.
  22. According Doogie (consider source I know) they didn't. They wouldn't go 5 years at all.
  23. Signing one starter does not "blow up future budgets". Yes you do have to pick your windows and go for it. The Rays are a fun franchise. So are the A's. They've also won zero World Series in the last 25 years.
  24. If it's true he absolutely wouldn't play here, then Falvey shouldn't have diddled around until he was about the only option left. I guess we'll go big at Ryu and Kuechel. But, I bet they don't want to play here either. No one will take the Twins $$. It's no good. But they tried and tried.
  25. I'm not sure how you're defining revenue level, but the idea that we can't compete with the White Sox and Tigers in FA is ridiculous. If what you're saying is true, why did we offer $100 to Darvish? Why did we offer $100 million to Wheeler? Can we play in FA or can't we? The fact that Ervin Santana is still the biggest FA contract we've ever given is pretty pathetic.
