  1. If he's your guy, you can't let an extra $2-4 million/year stand in your way. Yes, it's too much for him. Yes, his contract will likely be dead weight in 2023/24. This is about winning in 2020 and 2021. Period.
  2. Prepare for the "we were so close" let down and the "we'll be fine with Dobnak and Smelzer" plan.
  3. Doogie heard they called the hotel to book a room but they couldn't work it out, despite a generous offer.
  4. What were Baumgarner's demands? I still think there is a decent gap between him and Kuechel.
  5. If you can really get Didi Gregorius for $15 million, sign me up for him and MadBaum at $21 million. If that is over the cap, trade Rosario to free up $ for one more RP.
  6. If they won't go for it now, they never will and should stop pretending.
  7. Remember Phil Hughes fell 1/3 of an inning short of a large incentive due to a rain delay. The Twins offered to put him in as a reliever to get the 1/3 inning during the last series of the year. He declined and the Twins thought he was such a good guy they gave him a massive unnecessary extension. Best call he ever made.
  8. I can't recall many games started incentives. Usually innings or games finished. That said, I doubt he would agree to such a deal.
  9. Even if it means getting neither? If it takes 5/$100 to get MadBaum, so be it. We don't have many (any) better options.
  10. Factoring in durability, I'd still rather have MadBaum.
  11. I would have been intrigued by making a trade for Archer before we signed Pineda. We need a solid #1/2, not a flyer on a 3/4 at this point.
  12. This. We desperately need someone who won't pee down their leg if they have to start a game at Yankee stadium.
  13. I'm not forgetting so much as I would have him penciled into the bullpen. But I suppose he is an option for the rotation as well. As for Graterol, I assume they will not even consider putting him on the Opening Day roster so as not to burn a year of service time. He will be an option around the All-Star break.
  14. Meh. Either him or Castro for $4 million is fine I guess. I personally had no issue with Astudillo being the back-up catcher. No one bothers to steal anymore, give me the better hitter.
  15. If Dobnak is the 4th/5th starter, I'm comfortable with Smeltzer making the 6 starts that would be needed for the 5th spot in the first 39 games. Or vice versa depending on who wins the 5th job in ST.
  16. I'd like to hear more about this LibertyPatriot.USA
  17. Absolutely, yes. In NFL FA, the total pie is only so big and the Vikings share is equal to everyone else's. The Yankees/Phillies can always offer a slice a little bigger than the Twins, no matter how big we cut it.
  18. If it takes 5/$100 to get MadBaum, offer him $24 million to start and decline $2 million/year. We have the flexibility now and it will be less painful to pay him $16 million for the 2024 season when he's 35.
  19. I don't mind them breaking even, but I tend to agree, that should be the goal. Win as much as you can while not losing money. The appreciation on the value of the franchise is more than enough return on investment. And it is hypocritical to suggest pro sports teams are a quasi-public entity when convenient and a private business when it's not.
  20. MSP is a bigger market than St. Louis. I would like to see us be in their neighborhood instead of the Royals.
  21. Plenty of teams schedule FCS opponents and SDSU is one of the best. They could beat Rutgers and probably Maryland easily. They were not the worst team on our schedule.
  22. Rosario, Balazovic + another younger pitcher. Get it done.
  23. The Twins know "trying" isn't good enough in this instance.
  24. Because there was a 90% chance they wouldn't overturn that.
