This. If they don't spend significant $$ on starting pitching because "the market went crazy" than Falvine and the Pohlads are negligent in their roles and should sell/move on.
My only point is that they have one very good win and some of the teams ranked in front of them have no top 15 or top 10 wins at all (Alabama, Iowa, Memphis etc.). Very few have 2. Their NC schedule this year didn't pan out all that great. But playing a road game at Fresno State when they won 11 games last year is not scheduling cream puffs. They simply fell off a lot from one year to the next. Most years they are equal to or better than a mid-tier Power 5 team.
Perhaps. I think the MN teams, the Twins especially, will not be as effected because they never had astronomical TV deals to begin with. They kind of missed the boat timing-wise when Victory Sports flopped and then they went back hat in hand to FS North. Smart teams like the Dodgers and Rangers got themselves massive 25-year deals. The Fox Sports Networks are being sold to Sinclair. Will be interested to see how that changes things.
I think the bottoming out of revenue for the ESPN's of the world is near though. Most people who want to cut the cord have done so, and many of those are now subscribing through YouTube/Hulu etc. The sports rights fees have also peaked and even come down some as a result.
This is a silly standard. Who has Alabama beat? Who has Clemson beat? Who has Utah beat? If the standard is "2 or more win against top 15 teams" almost no one should ever go to a New Year's Bowl. Illinois turned out better than expected. Nebraska and Maryland worse. The Gophers don't have to apologize for who they played. And they won most of those games convincingly.
I'm not convinced there's a big gap between them if the price is double. And yes, they have a budget. If they save $12 million on Moose vs. Donaldson, it's safe to assume at least some of that will be spent elsewhere.
Personally, I have no issue with Astudillo being the back-up catcher and zero interest in Castro coming back. Since no one except the Royals bother to steal bases anymore, as long as he's not a train-wreck back there, he's fine.
It wasn't that worrisome. Though I don't understand why NW didn't use that QB a lot sooner. Night and day vs the starter. If they hadn't knocked the NW starter out, they may have won 42-2.
I'd only do that if the Cubs are going to eat about $15 million of the $21.5. Otherwise I can keep Arreaz and spend $21 million on a different pitcher. If the concern is luxury tax, I'd consider giving them a medium prospect to take Darvish off their hands.
ESPN+ does have some exclusive sports, but it's mostly small conference college football/basketball from what I've seen (like MAC, American, etc.) Yes, you can also stream the regular ESPN channels I believe. Not 100% sure.
I'm not sure what you mean by "ready". He might not be good over there, but he's not good at 3B either. He will do less damage at 1B IMO. He will probably DH by 2021. I suppose that's argument for leaving him at 3B and trying to gut out 1 more year. But even once he's DHing it would be good to have him split time at 1B.
Target Field cost $555 million with the Twins paying $205 million and Hennepin County paying $350 million. $0 from the state or city. US Bank was $1 billion with the Vikings paying roughly half. The other $500 is split between the state and the city with the state's share coming from electronic pull-tabs and the city's from an existing tax that paid for the convention center. The same city funds going to US Bank also paid to renovate Target Center. The Target Center was privately built originally, but the city did have to "bail it out" when they took it over. Is that the $110 million you reference? That seems high for the mid 1990's. Xcel Energy Center was pretty much all public money. I believe the city of St. Paul paid most of it.
There's a Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle for ~$13/month. Currently I pay for Hulu, Netflix and Amazon, pls I still have DirecTV. I am thinking of upgrading to Hulu/ESPN bundle and dropping Netflix. I rarely watch Amazon, but I don't have it for the video streaming anyway.
Maybe Garver wouldn't be. The other 24 would. I normally agree that "clubhouse presence" is over-rated but Cruz was pretty clearly the leader of the team last year and trading for no good reason other than to free up some AB's would not go over well IMO. Nor with the fan base. Zero chance of it happening.
I have nothing against Cron, but I'd strongly prefer they move Sano to 1B and fill 3rd with a free agent or shuffle the IF if Gordon is ready. The IF defense overall was poor and Sano at 3B is the weakest link.
