    In typical Minnesota sports fashion, there is no Verlander available this season. I'm still a big fan of Mad Bum, but also acknowledge he's not the same pitcher he was 2 years ago.

    I could have noticed but obviously it didn't resonate with me. It's not like I saw Tony Gwynn with a dip in, investigate what it was, and actively pursue it. No organization is supportive or encourages dipping in the office. Of course they want all of their employees to be healthy. I know a couple of kids that dip at my work. It's easier to hide than smoking cigs for sure...

    Successful teams come with higher expectations... A team needs to have a good bullpen to win and move on in the playoffs. That's why we agonize over this weak spot on the team...

    For sure. Didn't intend to compare Achter and Reed's stuff... Most casual fans just take a glance at a player's B-Ref page, see the eye popping numbers, and clamor for the player to be called up. Jake Reed's case reminds me of that.

    I'm right there with you Mike. Moving Romero to the pen was ill advised and now this is a lost year for him. He's unrecognizable from last season. His delivery in 2018 was so smooth and effortless. He threw plenty of gas consistently at 95-97 MPH. Wes Johnson has done a lot of great things with the pitching staff, but he probably should have let Romero continuing to do his thing without trying to add another 2-3 MPH of velocity. I'm done with the experiment and think he should spend the rest of 2019 in the minors ramping up to start again in 2020.

    Reminds me of AJ Achter back in the day. Eye popping numbers in the minors, and always passed up for other players. When he did get his chance he wasn't very good at the MLB level. I trust these guys see something that won't translate well at the MLB level... Hence why he's continuously denied the promotion.

    I don't have any expectations he will be the savior we're looking for in the bullpen. I guess it doesn't hurt to see if he catches fire for a couple of appearances. I was hoping they would rifle through all of these options last year when they weren't in contention.

    I think we may be giving kids too much credit paying attention to what's inside a baseball player's mouth. Growing up I never noticed Tony Gwynn and other baseball players were using chew on the field. If we want to deter kids from using chew play the summer carnival scene from The Sandlot on an endless loop.

    He would be a fine rental to go after, and a good replacement for Magill on the current roster. I'm still hoping to aim higher in a trade, but he would be a fine 2nd acquisition.

    Too many red flags with the drop in velocity, mechanical flaws, and heavy workload in the past. Pass.

    Concur. It's time to prepare for October today. The stud starting pitchers in the playoffs may go 6-7 innings. The rest get the boot after 4 or 5. This bullpen is woefully unprepared to pitch 4 or 5 high leverage innings a game.

    The Twins are absolutely able to swallow dead money. Not as much as Chicago, LA, and New York can. Last year the Twins swallowed $19 million alone with Erv and Phil Hughes' contracts. As long as they don't make it a habit and have $50+ million in dead money, they will be just fine.

    The Twins can absorb one bad contract if it comes to that. They're not in that dire of a financial situation. Last year they absorbed around $19 million in dead money with Ervin Santana and Phil Hughes.

No one expects this team to continue winning 72% of their games (which they did in May) No one expects this team to continue winning 68% of their games (which they've done up to this date so far) They have banked so many wins right now that a bad stretch of baseball won't kill this team.

    This can't be emphasized enough. A great starting rotation is the ultimate equalizer against anyone they play. I'm thrilled they developed STARTING pitching instead of the opener/primary pitcher set up.

    It's like I'm watching someone's MLB The Show franchise on easy settings... But this is real life! I've gotta say my friends that are Astros fans are worried about the Twins...
