  1. No doubt he’ll get a shot to earn the 8th spot in the bullpen in spring training. He’ll likely be a long shot, however. It will likely be a 4 man competition for 1 spot - Henriquez, Winder, Sands, and Balazovic competing for long relief.
  2. I would guess 99% of the players don’t live in Minnesota after the season is over. So the weather today has no significance to a professional baseball player.
  3. Heaney likely is the best we can do if we end up re-signing Correa or one of the other big 4 SS free agents. The reality is Falvey and Levine weren’t hired to hand out 9 figure free agent contracts to pitching. It’s time to see if their hard work building a pitching pipeline for the last 6 years is real or not.
  4. 100 games played. He’s only done it once in his MLB career. Everything else will take care of itself if he can play a triple digit amount of games.
  5. Sounds like this is a positive development for Twins fans to have an actual baseball fan running the show.
  6. Jose Abreu appears to be off the market now, but the main point of the article is still valid. The Twins need a big bopper in the lineup. We didn’t have enough firepower on offense… Not even the first half of the year when we had Correa plus red hot Buxton and Arraez. As things stand on 11/28, we have lost 140 OPS+ Correa and have 90 OPS+ Kyle Farmer as a depth stand in. If that isn’t resolved, the drop from Correa to Farmer will be felt and seen by the fans on a daily basis in the regular season.
  7. The margin for error is razor thin for Arraez if he doesn’t develop power. The difference is a valuable batting champion if he’s batting .320+. And Jason Tyner if he’s batting below .300. That’s not a guy I want to extend long term.
  8. Mitch Haniger, formerly of the Seattle Mariners, is one of the better OF free agents available this offseason. The 31-year-old possesses a career 123 OPS+ and bats right-handed, traits that are desperately needed in the Twins outfield arrangement. The Twins currently have five corner outfielders, all of which bat left-handed. View full rumor

  10. Lots of excellent posts in this thread. I’ve got nothing further to add about Pagan. It’s clear Falvey and Levine love something about him and it doesn’t make any sense to me. If/when we move him off the roster, all I can do is make a note in the cons column in the evaluation of this FO.
  11. A 40 man for 40 man swap. Doesn’t seem like a big deal. We get some more middle infield flexibility for $3 million less. I like what happened today.
  12. If he can start 98 games at SS he can play 3B. This is basically getting Urshela’s value for $3 million less.
  13. 3 million less than Urshela. If he can play SS he can play 3B.
  14. Farmer won’t prevent them from signing Correa. He looks like a break glass in case of emergency SS if they strike out on Correa.
  15. I posted in the arbitration article yesterday I could go either way with tendering Urshela. Looks like that question was answered today. Miranda at 3B full time and an extra $9 million to spend on another player. Looking forward to seeing what we do with the savings.
  16. Most positive development of the day. Let’s get a deal done Carlos!
  17. I don’t like the M hats one bit. But the jerseys look slick. I am a big fan of going back to the grey pinstripes for the road jerseys.
  18. It’s identical to the Eddie Rosario non-tender decision 2 years ago. Urshela is a slight overpay for the value he provides. I lean towards tendering him but can absolutely see the reasons why it’s better off to let him go. Is there really a drop off between the WAR Urshela provides vs. Miranda? 2 WAR is not a high bar to clear if Miranda really is a core player now and in the future. What else can we do with an additional $9+ million to spend on free agents or trades? Is having him on roster better than spending that money on a high end bullpen arm or Correa + Rodon + Abreu?
  19. Good article Nick. I agree that Urshela is the most difficult decision and I can go either way. He’s a fine 2 WAR player with some clutch moments in 2022. $9-10 million is a slight overpay but not too egregious. Hypothetically if he were a free agent right now, and we just signed him to a 1/$9 million contract, I don’t believe fans will be waving their new rebranded Twins flags in celebration.
  20. I’ll bet the under on this slash line.
  21. There are plenty of receipts on TD to show I was a big supporter of Sano during his first 5 years with the team. There were ups and downs of course, like the disastrous RF experiment in 2016 and the total reset needed in 2018. But I still had hope he would develop into a balanced slugger. Whether it’s the injuries stacking up, feeling like he made it and didn’t have to work as hard, or a combination of both, he did not become the balanced slugger. My tune changed with him in 2020, and by 2021 I was ready to move on from him. It’s unfortunate because he did have immense potential to be more than a 3 outcome player. And now his MLB career is on life support.
  22. Legumina is an off the radar add for sure. Doesn’t make a lot of sense from the stat sheet but obviously they have way more info to feel good about adding him.
