I’m good with keeping the 3-4 scheme. We just need the players to make it work. Which obviously we didn’t in 2022 due to poorly constructed contracts by Spielman. Even if we were in a 4-3 this year it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. We’ve been a bottom 3 defense in the league for the last 3 regular seasons. It’s a talent issue, not scheme.

Agreed. The best days are behind them with the current long term core of Kendricks, Harry, Hunter, Thielen, and Cook. A good indicator of the Wilfs still meddling in roster decisions is if Dalvin Cook remains on this team. A true analytics guy won’t have a $10+ million RB approaching 30 years old on their roster.

If the Wilfs are still dictating how the roster is constructed, we have big time issues. And KAM isn’t the right person at GM.

Let’s hope the Wilfs don’t meddle with roster personnel decisions and allows Kwesi to do his thing.

Gotta start overhauling the defense. We need talent upgrades at every position group on that side of the ball. It’s also time to say goodbye to some long time veteran players in order to clear cap space. Guys that I predict are released or traded: Offense: - Dalvin Cook - makes too much money. - Alex Mattison - let him go to free agency - Adam Thielen - He’s lost 2 steps. - Irv Smith Jr - Maybe he comes back on a 1 year cheap prove it deal. Wouldn’t offer him anything more than that. - Garrett Bradbury - No interest signing him long term. Defense: - Eric Kendricks - Lost a step. No longer good in coverage. Never was a fit for the 3-4 scheme. - Jordan Hicks - Way too slow - ZaDarius Smith (trade) - Feels like he’s a one and done here. Faded big time in the last 8 games. - Danielle Hunter (trade) - If we stick to the 3-4 scheme, he’s another guy that doesn’t fit the bill. Get a 2nd round pick and move on. - Pat Peterson - Will likely go chase a ring elsewhere. - Cam Dantzler (trade) - Feels like something is up with him and we end up moving on from him for a mid round pick. - Harrison Smith - Tough call but he’s at the end of his effectiveness. Gotta get younger and faster in the secondary. Other trade candidates: - Ezra Cleveland - I’d try to trade him to a team that needs either tackle or guard. Not really interested in extending him long term. A mid round pick will do. - Harrison Phillips - Didn’t really see him make too much of an impact this year.

Best case: Paddack recovers fully from his 2nd TJS and provides immense value for the Twins. Worst case: He becomes minimal dead money like Randy Dobnak.

I like reunion stories for players on their last legs in the MLB. Good for McCutchen to go back to where it all started for him.

Martin: He will see a lot more reps in the OF now. I would heavily consider him in a trade package for pitching. Lewis: I envision him as a much better version of Marwin Gonzalez. Super utility player who is Correa and Buxton insurance. Playing everywhere when a player needs a day off. Most importantly for 2023, he needs to not have any set backs in his rehab, and he needs plate appearances. Wouldn’t bother me a bit if he was mostly DH when he returns in July. Lee: More than likely locked in at 3B unless Miranda makes significant improvements in the field.

Correa was always a luxury want, not a need for the Mets. Boras likely called them because he knows Cohen doesn’t give a F about the money. Somebody probably talked some sense into Cohen and said you can spend $400 million on Machado next season who's a better fit at 3B.

It means the merry go round of new shortstops every year for the last 20 years is finally over. And they have a better chance to win more games than they did with Farmer as the starting SS.

This is a move that salvaged what was going to be a terrible offseason. It truly couldn’t have worked out better. Our top of the order bat and elite fielding SS is back!

No reason for them to do so at this point. The Twins can offer another short term high AAV contract and likely get him. What a weird sequence of events this offseason for Correa.

Signing Wacha only makes sense if the plan is to trade Gray. Which probably makes sense anyways. Right or wrong, he made public statements that he didn’t like how he was handled with the 5 and fly philosophy. Chances are he’s not gonna sign an extension here. I wish I knew what they’re trying to accomplish. Because right now the offense will be worse than last year and they weren’t all that good to begin with. I can see the pitching staff being above average if Gray remains a Twin. But you’re not going to be a contender if you’re league average on offense and pitching.

My point is Joe Mauer and Byron Buxton mentioned in the same thread or sentence is silly. They’re not even close to the same type of player. You bringing up Joe Mauer in this thread is ridiculous.

Joe Mauer’s 2011 season, where he played 82 games, is the only season in his 15 year career that comes close to Byron Buxton. These 2 players aren’t in the same universe when it comes to availability playing baseball games.
