  1. Forgot to include Chicago in the tough part of the schedule. Now it's going to be easy!
  2. I propose a new unwritten rule... If it's past August 15th, teams with a worse record have to forfeit against the teams with better records. Who says no?!
  3. Concur... He should only be re-signed if it's not possible to sign Big Mike or Odorizzi first.
  4. You should never be sorry to make contact with the ball during a game.
  5. Only baseball has players policing other players for no reason... A football team may put in the backup QB if it's a blow out. Baseball does that already by tossing out the mop up pitcher for an inning in a blow out.
  6. That plate appearance counts just the same on his stat line than every other plate appearance. The goal is to make contact and improve on that. There isn't a separate category where we subtract plate appearances he wasn't supposed to try according to unwritten rules.
  7. Imagine if these unwritten rules exist in other sports... In football if you're up by 2 TDs, the defense has to bat the ball in the air like a hot potato instead of intercepting the ball... Or if you have a clear path to sack a QB, you have to take a knee. In basketball if you're up by 10 points with 2 minutes left, you can't shoot the ball. Just dribble until the 24 second shot clock is up.
  8. This may be the dumbest unwritten rule I've seen in a long time. Jake Cave, or any other player in baseball, shouldn't have to apologize for putting the ball in play. No matter the count, no matter the score. These are professional players fighting for playing time.
  9. He's still putting up good numbers... 2.8 fWAR, 2 bWAR. It's not like this move would be made in a vacuum without any corresponding moves. In this hypothetical where Harper is a Twin, they could trade Rosario, Kepler, Kirilloff, Larnach, etc. for pitching. They could also trade Harper a few years into the contract as well.
  10. Concur. The Pohlads will fill our Christmas stocking with socks, not the hot new toy...
  11. Gonna be interesting over the next couple of years if a recession is on the way... After reading her explanation I can understand now why one is coming. Too many uncertainties with the upcoming election, tariff/trade wars with China, etc. But with every recession comes good buy low opportunities!
  12. I agree that QOs shouldn't be offered to Odorizzi or Gibson. Given how the last couple of winters have gone, they would be crazy not to accept it. Unless they want to wait around until June like Keuchel and Kimbrel did... The free agent starting pitchers are a little more attractive than the last couple of years. Gerrit Cole will be the prize everyone wants... I doubt the Twins will even get a return phone call. However, there's MadBum, Zach Wheeler, Ryu, Porcello... Maybe a couple of surprises like Archer, Kluber, and Teheran.
  13. Good thread to read.
  14. You could argue Big Mike should be the game 1 starter... He's been the best in the rotation since June. He's my #1 priority to resign out of the 3 pending free agents in the rotation.
  15. He would be 3rd on my priority list actually... I'd rank them Big Mike, Odorizzi, then Gibson.
  16. Hildenberger has had 3 months with an ERA under 3.5 in his MLB career so far. Hasn't stopped the narrative that he's a set up man... I don't get it.
  17. The disappointing thing to me is not taking advantage of the banked wins from April and May. They were 23 games over .500 on June 2nd. And treading water ever since... This year was a prime opportunity to make a splash in July to take advantage of their hot start... Romo and Dyson are fine additions. I guess it's my fault hoping for more out of this organization.
  18. He wasn't very good in the bullpen earlier this year. Given how he's been pitching for the last 3 months I don't see him being an asset in the bullpen either. There's better ways to spend $7.5 million next year... Cut him loose after the season.
  19. I'm far from convinced Smeltzer deserves a spot on a playoff roster.
  20. Without seeing a game log my assumption is Castro is his catcher when they play against contenders and Garver is his catcher against non contenders. Would love to know what you're using to dig through the numbers myself.
  21. His career numbers with Castro includes 2017 before he overhauled his approach and got better. Not a fair comparison IMO.
  22. I could be out of the loop because I forgot Antony was still on staff... Do we need to change the acronym to Falvintony?
